[Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (auteur) Vector-based cellular automata (VCA) models have been applied in land use change simulations at fine scales. However, the neighborhood effects of the driving factors are rarely considered in the exploration of the transition suitability of cells, leading to lower simulation accuracy. This study proposes a convolutional neural network (CNN)-VCA model that adopts the CNN to extract the high-level features of the driving factors within a neighborhood of an irregularly shaped cell and discover the relationships between multiple land use changes and driving factors at the neighborhood level. The proposed model was applied to simulate urban land use changes in Shenzhen, China. Compared with several VCA models using other machine learning methods, the proposed CNN-VCA model obtained the highest simulation accuracy (figure-of-merit = 0.361). The results indicated that the CNN-VCA model can effectively uncover the neighborhood effects of multiple driving factors on the developmental potential of land parcels and obtain more details on the morphological characteristics of land parcels. Moreover, the land use patterns of 2020 and 2025 under an ecological control strategy were simulated to provide decision support for urban planning. Ionospheric data are derived from these measurements providing outstanding space coverage and time resolution. There are about 200 million independent measurements daily. Researchers need sophisticated software tools to deal with such a large amount of data. We present recent advances and products from the System for Ionosphere Monitoring and Research from GNSS (SIMuRG). Currently, SIMuRG provides the total electron content (TEC) variations filtered within 2–10 min, 10–20 min, and 20–60 min, the Rate of the TEC Index, the Along Arc TEC Rate index, and the vertical TEC. SIMuRG is an online service at http://simurg.iszf.irk.ru. The system can be used free of charge and allows calculating both maps and series for arbitrary time intervals and geographic regions. All the data products are available in the form of data or figures. We discuss the system and its geophysics applications. [Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) In order to understand the impact of summer drought on dry deposition of tropospheric ozone (O3), we compared severe and mild drought periods of summer 2018 in a mountain Norway spruce forest at Bílý Kříž, Beskydy Mts. An eddy covariance technique was applied to measure diurnal courses of the ecosystem O3 and CO2 fluxes. Low O3 deposition was recorded in the morning and evening, while the highest CO2 and O3 fluxes were recorded during the central hours of the day. Total O3 deposition during severe drought (soil humidity 13%) was significantly higher than the deposition during the mild drought period (soil humidity 19%). Our data indicate that high vapour pressure deficit and low soil humidity during severe drought led to the stomatal closure, while non-stomatal O3 deposition, associated with chemical reactions of O3 with NO and volatile organic compounds, are responsible for higher total O3 deposition during the severe drought period. Therefore, we assume that under severe drought stomatal O3 uptake decreases but non-stomatal depositions to forest ecosystems substantially increase. Remote sensing shows potential for monitoring peatlands, but most off-the-shelf data products are developed for unsaturated environments and it is unclear how well they can perform in peatland ecosystems. Sphagnum moss is an important peatland genus with specific characteristics which can affect spectral reflectance, and we hypothesized that the prevalence of Sphagnum in a peatland could affect the spectral signature of the area. This article combines results from both laboratory and field experiments to assess the relationship between spectral indices and the moisture content and gross primary productivity (GPP) of peatland (blanket bog) vegetation species. The aim was to consider how well the selected indices perform under a range of conditions, and whether Sphagnum has a significant impact on the relationships tested. We found that both water indices tested [normalized difference water index (NDWI) and floating water band index (fWBI)] were sensitive to the water content changes in Sphagnum moss in the laboratory, and there was little difference between them. Most of the vegetation indices tested [the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), enhanced vegetation index (EVI), structure insensitive pigment index (SIPI), and chlorophyll index (CIm)] were found to have a strong relationship with GPP both in the laboratory and in the field. The NDVI and EVI are useful for large-scale estimation of GPP, but are sensitive to the proportion of Sphagnum present. The CIm is less affected by different species proportions and might therefore be the best to use in areas where vegetation species cover is unknown. The photochemical reflectance index (PRI) is shown to be best suited to small-scale studies of single species. [Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (auteur) Long-term exposure to contaminated water can cause health effects, such as cancer. Accurate spatial prediction of inorganic compounds (e.g. arsenic) and pathogens in groundwater is critical for water supply management. Ideally, environmental health agencies would have access to an early warning system to alert well owners of risks of such contamination. The estimation and dissemination of these risks can be facilitated by the combination of Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis capabilities – i.e., spatial decision support system (SDSS). However, the use of SDSS, especially web-based SDSS, is rare for spatially explicit studies of drinking water quality of private wells. In this study, we introduce the interactive Well Water Risk Estimation(iWWRE), a web-based SDSS to facilitate the monitoring of water contamination in private wells across Gaston County, North Carolina (US). Our system implements geoprocessing web services and generates dynamic spatial analysis results based on a database of private wells. Environmental health scientists using our system can conduct fine-grained spatial interpolation on 1) a particular type of contaminant such as arsenic, 2) on various subsets through a temporal query. Visuals consist of an estimation map, cross validation information, Kriging variance and contour lines that delineate areas with maximum contaminant levels (MCL), as set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Our web-based SDSS was developed jointly with environmental health specialists who found it particularly critical for the monitoring of local contamination trends, and a useful tool to reach out to private well users in highly elevated contaminated areas.
