[Vedettes matières IGN] ForesterieRésumé : (auteur) To facilitate forest research, simulations of the whole forest growth process can be employed to analyze forest dynamics and predict forest yields. Different forest growth models can be integrated for comprehensive process simulation and thus can assist forest growth research. With the development of network technologies, a web environment can provide cross-platform capability and wide availability for distributed researchers. In order to serve the simulation of complex forest growth processes and help online forest growth research, this article proposes a web-based integrated modeling and simulation method for forest growth research. The proposed method includes three steps, namely, model preparation, model integration, and forest growth simulation. The corresponding implementation strategies are designed to prepare forest growth models, integrate different models, preprocess model data, and implement forest growth simulations for integrated modeling and simulations via the web. Two applications in the comprehensive prediction of forest growth and comparison of different forest management decisions are introduced to verify the feasibility and capability of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed web-based integrated modeling and simulation method can be used conveniently for comprehensive simulations of forest growth research. However, the traditional methods for extracting residences exists several problems, which lead to inaccurate extraction results. In this study, the Landsat image is used to establish a new method for extracting the residences quickly and accurately. The specific steps are as follows: (1) We calculate surface albedo to exclude the interference of waters and shadows; (2) Using single-band threshold method, we eliminate the interference of shadows; (3) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index is calculated to exclude the effects of vegetation; (4) Roads are removed by calculating the shape index. Verification shows that the accuracy of this extraction method is 92.81%, which is more accurate than the traditional methods and solves the problems existed in the traditional methods. This novel method is a new reference for other land cover research on the technical aspect. This technical note has two objectives: First, to estimate the canopy height using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry; second, to propose an equation for the estimation of biomass of Brazilian savanna (Cerrado) pastures based on UAV canopy height. Four experimental units of Panicum maximum cv. BRS Tamani were evaluated. Herbage mass sampling, height measurements, and UAV image collection were simultaneously performed. The UAVs were flown at a height of 50 m, and images were generated with a mean ground sample distance (GSD) of approximately 1.55 cm. The forage canopy height estimated by UAVs was calculated as the difference between the digital surface model (DSM) and the digital terrain model (DTM). The R2 between ruler height and UAV height was 0.80; between biomass (kg ha−1 GB—green biomass) and ruler height, 0.81; and between biomass (kg ha−1 GB) and UAV height, 0.74. UAV photogrammetry proved to be a potential technique to estimate height and biomass in Brazilian Panicum maximum cv. [Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The analysis of built-up areas has always been a popular research topic for remote sensing applications. However, automatic extraction of built-up areas from a wide range of regions remains challenging. In this article, a fully convolutional network (FCN)–based strategy is proposed to address built-up area extraction. The proposed algorithm can be divided into two main steps. First, divide the remote sensing image into blocks and extract their deep features by a lightweight multi-branch convolutional neural network (LMB-CNN). Second, rearrange the deep features into feature maps that are fed into a well-designed FCN for image segmentation. Our FCN is integrated with multi-branch blocks and outputs multi-channel segmentation masks that are utilized to balance the false alarm and missing alarm. Experiments demonstrate that the overall classification accuracy of the proposed algorithm can achieve 98.75% in the test data set and that it has a faster processing compared with the existing state-of-the-art algorithms. [Termes IGN] visibilitéRésumé : (auteur) Adding building labels greatly improves the recognizability of buildings and the readability of three-dimensional (3D) city scenes. However, building label placement is much more complex in 3D scenes than in two-dimensional (2D) maps. The annotation effect is influenced by the attributes of the 3D label, building visibility, and the spatial relationship between the building and viewpoint. In this context, automatically generating building labels for 3D scenes during interactions requires highly complex computations. By contrast, evaluating candidate labels and then selecting the suitable label for each building can be effectively implemented. This paper introduces an approach for labeling buildings in 3D scenes based on evaluations of label candidates. The proposed method predefines a candidate label set for each building. These candidates are then evaluated in terms of their attributes and the relationship between the labels and viewpoint at runtime. The best candidate label, or a situational alternative for each building, is then placed in order of comprehensive label priority to avoid annotation conflicts. A series of experiments demonstrate that this method effectively enhances the correlation of labels and buildings, improves interactive efficiency, and realizes a viable global label layout.
