[Termes IGN] résiduRésumé : (auteur) This study aims to use GPS/Levelling data and machine learning techniques (MLs) to model a high precision local geoid for Kuwait. To improve the accuracy of a local geoid the global geopotential model and local terrain effect should be incorporated. The geoid model was improved based on the modelling of geoid residuals using three MLs. Minimax Probability Machine Regression (MPMR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) MLs were developed for modelling the calculated geoid residuals. The results show that the accuracy of the three MLs was improved compared to previous studies, and the accuracy of the GPR model was better than the other models. The standard deviations of Kuwait geoid undulation determined by GPS/Levelling, gravimetric, and developed GPR models were 1.377, 1.375, 1.375 m, respectively. Thus, the developed GPR model has successfully predicted an accurate geoid height of Kuwait with maximum variation approaches ±0.02 m. [Termes IGN] transformation rapide de FourierRésumé : (auteur) A high-resolution gravimetric geoid model for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia area was determined. A data set of 459,848 land gravity, 80,632 shipborne marine gravity data, DTU17 altimetry gravity model, and XGM2019e global geopotential model. The computation strategy followed for modelling of the gravimetric geoid is based on the Remove-Compute-Restore with Residual Terrain Model reduction and the 1D- Fast Fourier Transform approach technique. The geoid heights have been determined by using the Stokes integral with Wong–Gore modification. The accuracy of the resulting geoid models was evaluated by comparing them with 5385 GPS/levelling points. The geoid accuracy over all the kingdom is better than 11 cm in STD sense and the comparison in sub-areas obtained accuracy range from 2.8 to 11.9 cm according to the density of gravity observations. [Termes IGN] sommet (relief)Résumé : (auteur) This study aimed to measure and validate altitudes from existing sources with direct GNSS measurements and airborne lidar data. For this purpose, 12 mountain peaks located in the south part of Polish territory were selected. Measurements were performed using a GNSS receiver using the Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) or static techniques enabling altitude measurements with accuracy of 10 cm. GNSS was treated as the primary data source, as the direct field measurements can determine the highest point on each peak. The obtained results were confronted with historical, internet sources, and official altitude data. Moreover, each altitude was determined using lidar data from an airborne lidar dataset of Poland from the ISOK program and provided by the national agency. Significant discrepancies in data were already detected during the analysis of internet materials and traditional maps, up to a few meters. The differences between measured and internet sources in altitude of mountain peak range from 27 cm to 504 cm. This study has shown the need to re-measure the altitudes of the mountain peaks and determine the highest point correctly. [Termes IGN] quasi-géoïdeRésumé : (auteur) Since 2006, several different groups have computed geoid and/or quasigeoid (quasi/geoid) models for the Auvergne test area in central France using various approaches. In this contribution, we compute and compare quasigeoid models for Auvergne using Curtin University of Technology’s and the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology’s approaches. These approaches differ in many ways, such as their treatment of the input data, choice of type of spherical harmonic model (combined or satellite-only), form and sequence of correction terms applied, and different modified Stokes’s kernels (deterministic or stochastic). We have also compared our results with most of the previously reported studies over Auvergne in order to seek any improvements with respect to time [exceptions are when different subsets of data have been used]. All studies considered here compare the computed quasigeoid models with the same 75 GPS-levelling heights over Auvergne. The standard deviation for almost all of the computations (without any fitting) is of the order of 30–40 mm, so there is not yet any clear indication whether any approach is necessarily better than any other nor improving over time. We also recommend more standardisation on the presentation of quasi/geoid comparisons with GPS-levelling data so that results from different approaches over the same areas can be compared more objectively. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser sur satelliteRésumé : (auteur) Over the last two decades, satellite gravimetry has become a new remote sensing technique that provides a detailed global picture of the physical structure of the Earth. With the CHAMP, GRACE, GOCE and GRACE Follow-On missions, mass distribution and mass transport in the Earth system can be systematically observed and monitored from space. A wide range of Earth science disciplines benefit from these data, enabling improvements in applied models, providing new insights into Earth system processes (e.g., monitoring the global water cycle, ice sheet and glacier melting or sea-level rise) or establishing new operational services. Long time series of mass transport data are needed to disentangle anthropogenic and natural sources of climate change impacts on the Earth system. In order to secure sustained observations on a long-term basis, space agencies and the Earth science community are currently planning future satellite gravimetry mission concepts to enable higher accuracy and better spatial and temporal resolution. This Special Issue provides examples of recent improvements in gravity observation techniques and data processing and analysis, applications in the fields of hydrology, glaciology and solid Earth based on satellite gravimetry data, as well as concepts of future satellite constellations for monitoring mass transport in the Earth system.
