[Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) The TanDEM-X (TerraSAR-X add-on for Digital Elevation Measurement) mission comprises two nearly identical satellites: TerraSAR-X (TSX, launched in 2007), and TanDEM-X (TDX, launched in June 2010). The primary objective of the mission is to generate a worldwide and consistent digital elevation model (DEM) with an unprecedented accuracy. During the first 3 months after its launch, the TDX satellite was tested and calibrated in monostatic configuration with both satellites flying in 20 km along-track distance, and it was proven that the system and acquisition performance is almost identical to TSX. Both satellites were then brought into close formation of a few hundred meters distance to begin the bistatic commissioning phase. Since then, TSX and TDX have acted as a large single-pass radar interferometer, which overcomes the limitations imposed by repeat-pass interferometry and allow the acquisition of highly accurate cross- and along-track interferograms. In December 2010, TanDEM-X began with operational global acquisition: bistatic and monostatic SAR images are simultaneously acquired in stripmap mode and processed to interferograms, from which a global DEM is derived. The key parameter in estimating interferometric performance is the coherence, which is deeply evaluated in this paper. The impact of different decorrelation sources as well as the performance stability over time is investigated by means of statistical analyses and dedicated acquisitions on defined test sites, demonstrating the outstanding interferometric capabilities of the TanDEM-X mission. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) High resolution satellite imagery and airborne Lidar data can characterize the earth surface with unprecedented details in spatial and structure information, respectively. However, most studies have used them separately instead of in combination for land surface mapping. Considering their highly complementary nature, it is critical to investigate whether and how the integration of both can improve the accuracy of land cover and land use (LCLU) mapping. This study explored the use of Quickbird imagery and airborne Lidar data for mapping a complex urban environment in the City of Curitiba, Parana State, Southern Brazil, which is composed of secondary shrub vegetation, grass and climax primary Araucaria forests combined with urban objects such as roads and buildings. Airborne Lidar data were processed to generate DEM, DSM (Digital Surface Model), and DHM (Digital Height Model). The DSM generated from Lidar data were used to orthorectify Quickbird image with photogrammetric skills. A large number of metrics are generated from Lidar DHM, Lidar point cloud, Lidar intensity, and Quickbird imagery using object oriented segmentation approaches. Due to their power in handling non-parametric data, decision-tree based approaches were chosen to select the most relevant metrics and build rules for classification. It was found that the fusion of both types of data with decision trees increased the accuracy by 5 to 15% and resulted in an overall accuracy over 90%. Taking into account the increasing accessibility of Quickbird and airborne Lidar data, it is expected the methodology developed in this study has profound impacts in shifting our current paradigm in LCLU mapping. [Termes IGN] régression linéaireRésumé : (Auteur) The presence of shadows in very high resolution (VHR) images can represent a serious obstacle for their full exploitation. This paper proposes to face this problem as a whole through the proposal of a complete processing chain, which relies on various advanced image processing and pattern recognition tools. The first key point of the chain is that shadow areas are not only detected but also classified to allow their customized compensation. The detection and classification tasks are implemented by means of the state-of-the-art support vector machine approach. A quality check mechanism is integrated in order to reduce subsequent misreconstruction problems. The reconstruction is based on a linear regression method to compensate shadow regions by adjusting the intensities of the shaded pixels according to the statistical characteristics of the corresponding nonshadow regions. Moreover, borders are explicitly handled by making use of adaptive morphological filters and linear interpolation for the prevention of possible border artifacts in the reconstructed image. Experimental results obtained on three VHR images representing different shadow conditions are reported, discussed, and compared with two other reconstruction techniques. [Termes IGN] territoireRésumé : (Auteur) The Geographic Service Directory (DSG), in conjunction with the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), are responsible for the systematic mapping of the Brazilian territory (scales 1:1.000.000 to 1:25.000) since their creation, respectively, in 1890 and 1934. Considering their long trajectory in establishing the National Cartographic System, encompassing several topographic mapping projects through the last century, most of all based in photogrammetric coverages, this same territory is considered to be out of date in terms of cartographic products since the 80's decade. This out of date can be translated in numbers that can factually indicate the chaotic situation that planners and managers in general are experiencing nowadays in Brazil. In this manner, although the Brazilian territory is completely covered, since 1922, at 1:1.000.000 scale (46 charts), the most up-to-date products for this scale are from 1998, when they were updated based on remote sensing images. In the other hand, greater scales like 1:100.000, 1:50.000 and 1:25.000, which cover respectively 75%, 14 % and 1% of the Brazilian territory, are from periods comprehended between 1908 and 1985, most of them with more than 30 years old and never updated. The lack of geographic information at such important scales submits regional and local development as much as environmental management and monitoring to plans and actions based on unreliable and untrue spatial information. Initiatives from the federal government in order to solve some of the environmental management and monitoring problems, especially in the Amazon Region, have culminated on projects based exclusively on remote sensing techniques, like RADAM (Radar in Amazon) and SIVAM (Amazon Vigilance System). Another initiative relies, since 2006, on the cooperation agreement between IBGE and the Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF), aiming the distribution of remote sensing images to Federal Government agencies, research institutions and other non commercial users in Brazil. These images intend to help the acceleration of the territory mapping process and its updating, allowing more efficient governmental actions planning. In a country where cartographic development is running far away behind the social and economic ones, initiatives like these must be critically analyzed and discussed. That is the topic of this article. [Termes IGN] tectoniqueRésumé : (Auteur) The prime objective of this article is to understand and to address, from a tectonic and structural standpoint, the results obtained by an interferometric study recently carried out in the Manaus area, Amazonas State, in which a stack of RADARSAT-1 between 2006 e 2008 data has been processed. The study is based on the analysis of the drainage network data, as well as through the comparison with images from different optical sensors and with geologic/geomorphologic information available in the literature. As a result, it has been noticed a subsidence area located in the vicinities of a circular drainage anomaly with 4 km of diameter, which strongly suggests a geologic origin for the interferometric feature.
