[Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (Auteur) Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are traditionally acquired from a stereo pair of aerial photographs sequentially captured by an airborne metric camera. Standard DEM extraction techniques can be naturally extended to satellite imagery, but the particular characteristics of satellite imaging can cause difficulties. The spacecraft ephemeris with respect to the ground site during image collects is the most important factor in the elevation extraction process. When the angle of separation between the stereo images is small, the extraction process typically produces measurements with low accuracy, while a large angle of separation can cause an excessive number of erroneous points in the DEM from occlusion of ground areas. The use of three or more images registered to the same ground area can potentially reduce these problems and improve the accuracy of the extracted DEM. The pointing capability of some sensors, such as the Multispectral Thermal Imager (MTI), allows for multiple collects of the same area from different perspectives. This functionality of MTI makes it a good candidate for the implementation of a DEM extraction algorithm using multiple images for improved accuracy. Evaluation of this capability and development of algorithms to geometrically model the MTI sensor and extract DEMs from multi-look MTI imagery are described in this paper. An RMS elevation error of 6.3-meters is achieved using 11 ground test points, while the MTI band has a 5-meter ground sample distance. MERIS is a medium resolution (300-1200m) push-broom imaging spectrometer covering the spectral domain 390-1040nm with 15 bands, programmable in position and width down to steps of 1.25nm. The onboard spectral calibration hardware is based on the use of an Erbium doped-diffuser panel presenting well-defined absorption peaks. In the spectral calibration mode, MERIS is configured with narrow bands centred on an Erbium absorption feature (two are used). The first orbit, the instrument is calibrated by viewing the "white" radiometric diffuser plate and the following orbit the "pink" Erbium diffuser plate is deployed. This method allows each of the MERIS detectors involved to be characterized in wavelength. The Fraunhofer absorption lines were used to complement these results by providing additional measurements in the violet and near infrared part of the spectrum. For this method, MERIS was configured both for Earth and diffuser observations and acquired data for only a limited number of orbits. This procedure was repeated for different band settings covering a number of Fraunhofer absorption lines. Finally, using Oxygen (O2A) absorption Earth observation data, two different approaches were developed, one based on the retrieval of surface pressure and one based on the shape of the O2A absorption band. Both methods were developed for clear sky land observations, but their performances are improved over bright land targets. Both methods agree to within an accuracy of 0.02 nm. The results from the different methods are analyzed in order to propose a spectral model for the MERIS instrument. Preliminary results of the spectral variation with time are reported. Except camera 4, the instrument is quite stable with time. Camera 4 needs further investigations to better understand its behaviour. Except for the use of the MERIS oxygen band, the spectral characterization of the other MERIS bands is achieved within the nominal accuracy (1 nm). [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) For many questions of the coastal zone management, the knowledge on the biological and ecological state of coastal waters is of high importance. Due to the complexity of this water type, characterized by different classes of water constituents, a sophisticated methodology needs to be applied for quantitative remote sensing. Within the MAPP-Project (MERIS Applications and Regional Products Project) a specific remote sensing interpretation algorithm was developed for the regional assessment of water constituents in the Baltic Sea. This is a part of the ESA Cat-1 proposal ID 1413 GEMEL-3 ("Generation of MERIS Level-3 products for European multidisciplinary regional applications"). The operational implementation in a MERIS-value-adding system allows a near real-time estimation of chlorophyll sediment and gelbstoff concentrations on a regular basis. The algorithm, based on a principal component inversion (PCI) technique and the model will be introduced. The applicability of the model will be demonstrated on a couple of comparisons of MERIS reflectances and in-situ measurements. The potential of the model shall be demonstrated on available MERIS data.
