[Termes IGN] visée obliqueRésumé : (Auteur) Reliable building delineation in very high resolution (VHR) satellite imagery can be achieved by precise disparity information extracted from stereo pairs. However, off-nadir VHR images over urban areas contain many occlusions due to building leaning that creates gaps in the extracted disparity maps. The typical approach to fill these gaps is by interpolation. However, it inevitably degrades the quality of the disparity map and reduces the accuracy of building detection. Thus, this research proposes a registration-based technique for mapping the disparity of off-terrain objects to avoid the need for disparity interpolation and normalization. The generated disparity by the proposed technique is then used to support building detection in off-nadir VHR satellite images. Experiments in a high-rise building area confirmed that 75 percent of the detected building roofs overlap precisely the reference data, with almost 100 percent correct detection. These accuracies are substantially higher than those achieved by other published research. [Termes IGN] système de coordonnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The replacement of the rational function model (RFM) by the rigorous sensor model (RSM) has been studied extensively and verified with many types of sensors and remote-sensing applications. However, relatively less research has been conducted on recovering RSM from RFM, and the few relating techniques can only be applied in specific circumstances. This paper proposes a novel linear method to obtain the position, attitude, and interior orientation (IO) elements of satellites based on the orientation information of the rays implied by the RFM. Instead of resection, forward intersection is used to solve for position, and an equivalent body coordinate system is introduced to overcome the strong correlation between the attitude and IO. The orientation information of the rays implied by the RFM is used to calculate the IO pixel by pixel. Experiments using the Ziyuan 3 panchromatic nadir sensor show that this method can recover the exterior orientation and IO elements effectively. [Termes IGN] points homologuesRésumé : (Auteur) In urban change detection, coregistration between bi-temporal Very High Resolution (VHR) images taken from different viewing angles, especially from high off-nadir angles, is very challenging. The relief displacements of elevated objects in such images usually lead to significant misregistration that negatively affects the accuracy of change detection. This paper presents a novel solution, called Patch-Wise CoRegistration (PWCR), that can overcome the misregistration problem caused by viewing angle difference and accordingly improve the accuracy of urban change detection. The PWCR method utilizes a Digital Surface Model (DSM) and the Rational Polynomial Coefficients (RPCs) of the images to find corresponding points in a bi-temporal image set. The corresponding points are then used to generate corresponding patches in the image set. To prove that the PWCR method can overcome the misregistration problem and help achieving accurate change detection, two change detection criteria are tested and incorporated into a change detection framework. Experiments on four bi-temporal image sets acquired by Ikonos, GeoEye-1, and Worldview-2 satellites from different viewing angles show that the PWCR method can achieve highly accurate image patch coregistration (up to 80 percent higher than traditional coregistration for elevated objects), so that the change detection framework can produce accurate urban change detection results (over 90 percent). [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Growing availability of long-term satellite imagery enables change modeling with advanced spatio-temporal statistical methods. Multidimensional arrays naturally match the structure of spatio-temporal satellite data and can provide a clean modeling process for complex spatio-temporal analysis over large datasets. Our study case illustrates the detection of breakpoints in MODIS imagery time series for land cover change in the Brazilian Amazon using the BFAST (Breaks For Additive Season and Trend) change detection framework. BFAST includes an Empirical Fluctuation Process (EFP) to alarm the change and a change point time locating process. We extend the EFP to account for the spatial autocorrelation between spatial neighbors and assess the effects of spatial correlation when applying BFAST on satellite image time series. In addition, we evaluate how sensitive EFP is to the assumption that its time series residuals are temporally uncorrelated, by modeling it as an autoregressive process. We use arrays as a unified data structure for the modeling process, R to execute the analysis, and an array database management system to scale computation. Our results point to BFAST as a robust approach against mild temporal and spatial correlation, to the use of arrays to ease the modeling process of spatio-temporal change, and towards communicable and scalable analysis. [Termes IGN] itérationRésumé : (auteur) The development of remote sensing has enabled the acquisition of information on land-cover change at different spatial scales. However, a trade-off between spatial and temporal resolutions normally exists. Fine-spatial-resolution images have low temporal resolutions, whereas coarse spatial resolution images have high temporal repetition rates. A novel super-resolution change detection method (SRCD) is proposed to detect land-cover changes at both fine spatial and temporal resolutions with the use of a coarse-resolution image and a fine-resolution land-cover map acquired at different times. SRCD is an iterative method that involves endmember estimation, spectral unmixing, land-cover fraction change detection, and super-resolution land-cover mapping. Both the land-cover change/no-change map and from–to change map at fine spatial resolution can be generated by SRCD. In this study, SRCD was applied to synthetic multispectral image, Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) multispectral image and Landsat-8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) multispectral image. The land-cover from–to change maps are found to have the highest overall accuracy (higher than 85%) in all the three experiments. Most of the changed land-cover patches, which were larger than the coarse-resolution pixel, were correctly detected.
