[Termes IGN] traçabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) The calibration of remote sensing instruments is a crucial step in the generation of products tied to international reference standards. Calibrating imaging spectrometers is particularly demanding due to the high number of spatiospectral pixels and, consequently, the large amount of data acquired during calibration sequences. Storage of these data and associated metadata in an organized manner, as well as the provision of efficient tools for the data analysis and fast and repeatable calibration coefficient generation with provenance information, is key to the provision of traceable measurements. The airborne prism experiment (APEX) calibration information system is a multilayered information technology solution comprising a database based on the entity-attribute-value (EAV) paradigm and software written in Java and Matlab, providing data access, visualization and processing, and handling the data volumes over the expected lifetime of the system. Although developed in the context of APEX, the system is rather generic and may be adapted to other pushbroom-based imagers with little effort. We construct a new family of generalized composite kernels which exhibit great flexibility when combining the spectral and the spatial information contained in the hyperspectral data, without any weight parameters. The classifier adopted in this work is the multinomial logistic regression, and the spatial information is modeled from extended multiattribute profiles. In order to illustrate the good performance of the proposed framework, support vector machines are also used for evaluation purposes. Our experimental results with real hyperspectral images collected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer and the Reflective Optics Spectrographic Imaging System indicate that the proposed framework leads to state-of-the-art classification performance in complex analysis scenarios. [Termes IGN] troncRésumé : (Auteur) Recent research results have shown that the performance of digital surface model extraction using novel high-quality photogrammetric images and image matching is a highly competitive alternative to laser scanning. In this article, we proceed to compare the performance of these two methods in the estimation of plot-level forest variables. Dense point clouds extracted from aerial frame images were used to estimate the plot-level forest variables needed in a forest inventory covering 89 plots. We analyzed images with 60% and 80% forward overlaps and used test plots with off-nadir angles of between 0° and 20°. When compared to reference ground measurements, the airborne laser scanning (ALS) data proved to be the most accurate: it yielded root mean square error (RMSE) values of 6.55% for mean height, 11.42% for mean diameter, and 20.72% for volume. When we applied a forward overlap of 80%, the corresponding results from aerial images were 6.77% for mean height, 12.00% for mean diameter, and 22.62% for volume. A forward overlap of 60% resulted in slightly deteriorated RMSE values of 7.55% for mean height, 12.20% for mean diameter, and 22.77% for volume. According to our results, the use of higher forward overlap produced only slightly better results in the estimation of these forest variables. Additionally, we found that the estimation accuracy was not significantly impacted by the increase in the off-nadir angle. Our results confirmed that digital aerial photographs were about as accurate as ALS in forest resources estimation as long as a terrain model was available. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Geometric registration of multiple-source data is of great value for fusion processing and is very beneficial for the research of desert ecosystems. A lidar point cloud and optical image are two typical data that need to be integrated for data assimilation and information retrieval. This paper aims to solve the registration problem of aerial imagery and airborne lidar data in desert areas where traditional registration methods have difficulties in identifying registration primitives. In many deserts, such as the Sahara in Africa and Gobi in China, we observe that there are unevenly distributed desert bushes, which can be used as cues for registration. In this paper, we propose a registration approach using the centroids of bushes as registration primitives. This approach employs similar triangles created from both centroids as the evidence for matching and verifies the registration by the RANSAC algorithm. Experiments using data taken from the Dunhuang Gobi Desert in China show the registration surface model visually, and at the same time quantifies the deviation error, which corroborates that the proposed registration method is effective and feasible in desert areas.
