[Termes IGN] Référence-3DRésumé : (Auteur) Following SPOT5 launch, Spot Image and French National Geographic Institute (IGN) have decided to design a worldwide accurate database called Reference3D™ using data from the High Resolution Stereoscopic SPOT5 instrument (HRS). This database consists in three information layers : Digital Elevation Model at 1 arc.second resolution, Orthoimage at 1/6th arc.second resolution and Quality Masks ; with a specification of circular planimetric accuracy better than 16 m for 90 % of the points and elevation accuracy better than 10 m for 90% of the points. It has also been decided to develop and commercialize a system called ANDORRE to archive Reference3D database and produce orthorectified images and DEM thanks to Reference3D™ data. ANDORRE has been designed to take advantage of Reference3D™ horizontal and altimetric accuracy to automatically register and rectify any image from SPOT satellites in any area where Reference3D™ data is available. This system could also be upgraded to process other satellite data. Spot Image has delegated to French Space Agency (CNES) the realization and industrialization of the algorithmic core of the processing chain. This paper presents the automatic ortho-rectification process composed of three main steps : generation of a reference image (in focal plane geometry) using SPOT rigorous sensor model and Reference3D™ Orthoimage and DEM layers ; modeling of the mis-registration between the reference image and the SPOT image to be processed, using a multiresolution image matching algorithm, in order to improve the SPOT location model;resampling of the image into a cartographic reference frame using Reference3D™ DEM and the improved SPOT location model. It also focuses on some difficult cases and the robustness of the algorithm (different landscapes, DEM and image resolution) and on the processing time needed to achieve the rectification of the SPOT image in different cases. [Termes IGN] végétationRésumé : (Auteur) With rapid urban growth in recent years, understanding urban biophysical composition and dynamics becomes an important research topic. Remote sensing technologies introduce a potentially scientific basis for examining urban composition and monitoring its changes over time. The vegetation-impervious surface-soil (V-I-S) model, in particular, provides a foundation for describing urban/suburban environments and a basis for further urban analyses including urban growth modeling, environmental impact analysis, and socioeconomic factor estimation. This paper develops a normalized spectral mixture analysis (NSMA) method to examine urban composition in Columbus (Ohio) using Landsat ETM+ data. In particular, a brightness normalization method is applied to reduce brightness variation. Through this normalization, brightness variability within each V-I-S component is reduced or eliminated, thus allowing a single endmember representing each component. Further, with the normalized image, three endmembers, vegetation, impervious surface, and soil, are chosen to model heterogeneous urban composition using a constrained spectral mixture analysis (SMA) model. The accuracy of impervious surface estimation is assessed and compared with two other existing models. Results indicate that the proposed model is a better alternative to existing models, with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 10.1% for impervious surface estimation in the study area. [Termes IGN] SPOTRésumé : (Auteur) This paper focuses on the use of space and airborne sensors that can be applied to detect landmines and minefields. First the landmine and minefield problem is addressed and examples of the use of remote sensing images are presented that could provide valuable information for the mine action process and assist in conventional minefield and landmine detection methods. This is followed by an overview on relevant (declassified) aspects related to strategic overhead detection techniques developed by the military/intelligence community as well as those of civilian space and airborne remote sensing programmes. The airborne sensing techniques describe the state of the art of sensors such as optical (film, multi- and hyperspectral sensors), thermal infrared as well as microwave sensors and their suitability-limitations for remote sensing based minefield and landmine detection purposes. [Termes IGN] limite de résolution géométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the performance limit of remote sensing systems, multispectral images have limited spatial resolution. Their spatial resolution can be improved by merging them with higher resolution image data. A fundamental problem frequently occurring in existing fusion processes, however, is the distortion of spectral information. This paper presents a spatially adaptive image fusion algorithm which produces visually natural images and retains the quality of local spectral information as well. High frequency information of the high resolution image to be inserted to the resampled multispectral images is controlled by adaptive gains to incorporate the difference of local spectral characteristics between the high and the low resolution images into the fusion. Each gain is estimated to minimize the 12-norm of the error between the original and the estimated pixel values defined in a spatially adaptive window of which the weights are proportional to the spectral correlation measurements of the corresponding regions. This method is applied to a set of co-registered Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM)+ panchromatic and multispectral image data. The experimental results show that high resolution images can be synthesized by the proposed method, which successfully preserves spectral content of the multispectral images.
