Mais elle sait également exporter son savoir-faire et, lorsqu'elle aide ses clients à mettre en place leur propre politique de l'eau, le SIG n'est jamais loin. [Termes IGN] Pays-BasRésumé : (Auteur) Thematic maps prepared from remotely sensed images require a statistical accuracy assessment. For this purpose, the k-statistic is often used. This statistic does not distinguish between whether one unit is classified as another, or vice versa. In this paper, the Bradley-Terry (BT) model is applied for accuracy assessment. This model compares categories pairwise. The probability of one class over another class is estimated as well as the expected values of class pixels. The study is illustrated with an Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer image from the Netherlands, to which a maximum-likelihood classification with the Euclidean distance is applied. An error matrix is generated using an IKONOS image from the same area as ground truth. It is shown to which degree the BT model extends the K-statistic. A comparison with the Mahalanobis distance is made. Standardization is carried out to overcome problems emerging from the fact that a common BT model does not include the number of correctly classified pixels. The study shows how the BT model serves as an alternative to the usual k-statistic. [Termes IGN] redressement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The establishment of monitoring frameworks for environmental problems is frequently based on retrospective, multi-temporal series of satellite images. The derivation of concise conclusions from these series largely depends on their quantitative consistency ; hence, a completely standardized analysis of multi-temporal time series is mandatory. In the context of the required radiometric rectification, sensor calibration is an essential component, the accuracy of which largely determines the overall result. While for newer sensor systems extensive documentation on the development of the sensor's sensitivity exists, older systems often lack the corresponding information.
A methodology has been developed, tested and validated to radiometrically intercalibrate different sensor systems based on the precondition of simultaneous image acquisition, which is for example provided by the Landsat TM and MSS sensor systems hosted on Landsat 5. Different interpolation and processing steps within the procedure have been analyzed, and an intercalibration scheme is proposed to derive Landsat MSS calibration factors from Landsat TM, which is used as a calibrated reference. [Termes IGN] surveillance écologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A probalistic method has been developed that distinguishes oil spills from other similar sea surface features in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. It considers both the radiometric and geometric characteristics of the areas being tested. In order to minimize the operator intervention, it adopts automatic selection criteria to extract the potentially polluted areas from the images. The method has an a priori percentage of correct classification higher than 90% on the training dataset ; the performance is confirmed on a different dataset of verified slicks. Some analysis have been conducted using images with different radiometric and geometric resolutions to test its suitability with SAR images different from European Remote Sensing (ERS) satellite ones. The system and its ability to detect and classify oil and non-oil surface features are described. Starting from a set of verified oil spills detected offshore and over coastline, the ability of SAR to reveal oil spills is tested by analysing wind intensity, deduced from the images itself, and the distance from the coast. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Detecting landslides and monitoring their activity is of great relevance for disastrer prevention, preparedness and mitigation in hilly areas. To this end, change detection techniques were developed and applied to multi-temporal digital aerial photographs, simulating the very high spatial resolution of new satellite sensor optical imagery, over the Tessina complex landslide in north-eastern Italy. Several automatic thresholding algorithms are compared on the difference orthorectified and radiometrically normalized images, including some standard methods based on clustering, statistics, moment and entropy, as well as some more novel techniques previously developed by the authors. In addition, a variety of filters were employed to eliminate much of the underisable residual clutter in the thresholded difference image, mainly as a result of natural vegetation and man-land cover changes. These filters are based on shape and size properties of the connected sets of pixels in the threshold maps. This has enabled us discriminate most ground surface changes related to the movement of a pre-existing landslide.
