[Termes IGN] surveillance forestièreRésumé : (auteur) In this study, the potential of Sentinel-1 data to seasonally monitor temperate forests was investigated by analyzing radar signatures observed from plots in the Fontainebleau Forest of the Ile de France region, France, for the period extending from March 2015 to January 2016. Radar backscattering coefficients, σ0 and the amplitude of temporal interferometric coherence profiles in relation to environmental variables are shown, such as in situ precipitation and air temperature. The high temporal frequency of Sentinel-1 acquisitions (i.e., twelve days, or six, if both Sentinel-1A and B are combined over Europe) and the dual polarization configuration (VV and VH over most land surfaces) made a significant contribution. In particular, the radar backscattering coefficient ratio of VV to VH polarization, σ0VV/σ0VH , showed a well-pronounced seasonality that was correlated with vegetation phenology, as confirmed in comparison to NDVI profiles derived from Landsat-8 (r = 0.77) over stands of deciduous trees. These results illustrate the high potential of Sentinel-1 data for monitoring vegetation, and as these data are not sensitive to the atmosphere, the phenology could be estimated with more accuracy than optical data. These observations will be quantitatively analyzed with the use of electromagnetic models in the near future. [Termes IGN] modèle orienté objetRésumé : (auteur) With the large amount of high-spatial resolution images now available, scene classification aimed at obtaining high-level semantic concepts has drawn great attention. The convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which are typical deep learning methods, have widely been studied to automatically learn features for the images for scene classification. However, scene classification based on CNNs is still difficult due to the scale variation of the objects in remote sensing imagery. In this paper, a multiscale CNN (MCNN) framework is proposed to solve the problem. In MCNN, a network structure containing dual branches of a fixed-scale net (F-net) and a varied-scale net (V-net) is constructed and the parameters are shared by the F-net and V-net. The images and their rescaled images are fed into the F-net and V-net, respectively, allowing us to simultaneously train the shared network weights on multiscale images. Furthermore, to ensure that the features extracted from MCNN are scale invariant, a similarity measure layer is added to MCNN, which forces the two feature vectors extracted from the image and its corresponding rescaled image to be as close as possible in the training phase. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we compared the results obtained using three widely used remote sensing data sets: the UC Merced data set, the aerial image data set, and the google data set of SIRI-WHU. The results confirm that the proposed method performs significantly better than the other state-of-the-art scene classification methods. [Termes IGN] réseau neuronal convolutifRésumé : (Auteur) The Sentinel-2 satellite mission delivers multi-spectral imagery with 13 spectral bands, acquired at three different spatial resolutions. The aim of this research is to super-resolve the lower-resolution (20 m and 60 m Ground Sampling Distance – GSD) bands to 10 m GSD, so as to obtain a complete data cube at the maximal sensor resolution. We employ a state-of-the-art convolutional neural network (CNN) to perform end-to-end upsampling, which is trained with data at lower resolution, i.e., from 40 20 m, respectively 360 60 m GSD. In this way, one has access to a virtually infinite amount of training data, by downsampling real Sentinel-2 images. We use data sampled globally over a wide range of geographical locations, to obtain a network that generalises across different climate zones and land-cover types, and can super-resolve arbitrary Sentinel-2 images without the need of retraining. In quantitative evaluations (at lower scale, where ground truth is available), our network, which we call DSen2, outperforms the best competing approach by almost 50% in RMSE, while better preserving the spectral characteristics. It also delivers visually convincing results at the full 10 m GSD. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) We propose an inspiring approach for accurate impervious surface estimation based on the integration of remote sensing and social data. The proposed approach exploits the strengths of two kind of heterogeneous features, i.e., physical features and social features, where the former ones are derived by a morphological attribute profiles-guided spectral mixture analysis model using remote sensing imagery, and the latter ones are obtained from the normalized kernel density of point of interest and vector road datasets. These two features are then integrated using a multivariable linear regression model to estimate impervious surfaces. The proposed method has been tested in the main urban area of Guangzhou, China, in pixel level and parcel level, respectively. The obtained results, with the overall RMSE of 10.98% and 10.90% for pixel level and parcel level, respectively, demonstrate the good performance of integrating remote sensing imagery and social data for mapping of urban impervious surface. This high potential zone encompasses several porphyry copper deposits under exploitation, development and exploration stages. The aim of this study is to evaluate Landsat-8 data and comparison with the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer data-sets for mapping hydrothermal alteration zones related to Cenozoic magmatic intrusions in Shahr-e-Babak region. Previous studies have proven the robust application of ASTER in lithological mapping and mineral exploration; nonetheless, the Landsat-8 data have high capability to map and detect hydrothermal alteration zones associated with porphyry copper and epithermal gold mineralization. In this investigation, several band combinations and multiplications, developed selective principal component analysis and image transformations were developed for discriminating hydrothermal alteration zones associated with porphyry copper mineralization using Landsat-8 data.
