Aims : Our aim was to estimate tree growth and mortality in a Mediterranean holm oak forest, using remote sensing data from MODIS.
Methods : We monitored annual increases of aboveground biomass by measuring tree basal area, and we determined tree mortality by counting dead stems. We analyzed the relationships between forest growth and mortality with mean annual values of some MODIS products and meteorological data.
Results : Mortality and increases of aboveground biomass correlated well with precipitation, September standardized precipitation/evapotranspiration indices (SPEI), and some MODIS products such as NDVI and enhanced vegetation index EVI. Other MODIS products such as gross primary production (GPP) and net photosynthesis, however, showed no clear relationship with tree mortality or measured increases of biomass.
Conclusion : The MODIS products as proxies of ecosystemic productivity (gross primary productivity, net photosynthesis) were weakly correlated with biomass increase, and did not reflect the mortality following the drought of autumn 2011. Nevertheless, NDVI and EVI were efficient indicators of forest productivity and diebackNuméro de notice : A2015-383 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.1007/s13595-014-0408-y Date de publication en ligne : 18/09/2014 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1007/s13595-014-0408-y Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=76875

[Termes IGN] qualité d'imageRésumé : (auteur) Sentinel-2 is a multispectral, high-resolution, optical imaging mission, developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) in the frame of the Copernicus program of the European Commission. In cooperation with ESA, the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) is responsible for the image quality of the project, and will ensure the CAL/VAL commissioning phase. Sentinel-2 mission is devoted the operational monitoring of land and coastal areas, and will provide a continuity of SPOT- and Landsat-type data. Sentinel-2 will also deliver information for emergency services. Launched in 2015 and 2016, there will be a constellation of 2 satellites on a polar sun-synchronous orbit, imaging systematically terrestrial surfaces with a revisit time of 5 days, in 13 spectral bands in visible and shortwave infra-red. Therefore, multi-temporal series of images, taken under the same viewing conditions, will be available. So as to ensure for the multi-temporal registration of the products, specified to be better than 0.3 pixels at 2σ, a Global Reference Image (GRI) will be produced during the CAL/VAL period. This GRI is composed of a set of Sentinel-2 acquisitions, which geometry has been corrected by bundle block adjustment. During L1B processing, Ground Control Points will be taken between this reference image and the sentinel-2 acquisition processed and the geometric model of the image corrected, so as to ensure the good multi-temporal registration. This paper first details the production of the reference during the CALVAL period, and then details the qualification and geolocation performance assessment of the GRI. It finally presents its use in the Level-1 processing chain and gives a first assessment of the multi-temporal registration. As one of the most rapidly urbanized cities in Canada, Saskatoon (SK) was selected as our study area. Surface brightness retrieving, Pearson correlation, linear regression modeling, and buffer analysis were applied to different satellite datasets. The results indicate that both Landsat and MODIS data can yield pronounced estimations of daily air temperature with a significantly adjusted R2 of 0.803 and 0.518 at the spatial scales of 120m and 1000 m, respectively. MODIS monthly LST data is highly suitable for monitoring the trend of monthly urban air temperature throughout summer (June, July, and August) due to a high average R2 of 0.8 (P Numéro de notice : A2015-436 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.1515/geo-2015-0005 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1515/geo-2015-0005 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=77036

[Termes IGN] précision infrapixellaireRésumé : (auteur) Course-resolution remotely sensed images are high in temporal repetition rates, but their low spatial resolution limits their application in updating land cover maps. Our proposed land cover updating method involves the use of coarse-resolution images to update fine-resolution land cover maps. The method comprises change detection and sub-pixel mapping methods. The current coarse-resolution image is unmixed, and the previous fine-resolution map is spatially degraded to produce current and previous class fraction images. A change detection method is applied to these fraction images to create a fine-resolution binary change/non-change map. Finally, a sub-pixel mapping method is applied to update the fine-resolution pixel labels that are changed in the change/ non-change map. The proposed method is compared with a pixel-based classification method and two sub-pixel mapping methods. The proposed method maintains most of the spatial patterns of land cover classes that are unchanged in the previous and current images, whereas other methods cannot.
