[Termes IGN] spectrographeRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes a CCD (charge coupled device) camerabased hyperspectral imaging system designed for both stationary and airborne remote sensing applications. The system consists of a high performance digital CCD camera, an imaging spectrograph, an optional focal plane scanner, and a PC computer equipped with a frame grabbing board and camera utility software. The CCD camera provides 1280(h) x 1024(v) pixel resolution and true 12bit dynamic range. The imaging spectrograph is attached to the camera via an adapter to disperse radiation into a range of spectral bands. The effective spectral range resulting from this integration is from 457.2 nm to 921.7 nm. The optional focal plane scanner can be attached to the front of the spectrograph via another adapter for stationary image acquisition. The camera and the frame grabbing board are connected via a double coaxial cable, and the utility software allows for complete camera control and image acquisition. The imaging system captures one line image for all the bands at a time and an aircraft or the focal plane scanner serves as a mobile platform to carrv out push broom scanning in the alongtrack direction. The horizontal and vertical binning capability of the camera makes it possible to obtain images with various spatial (160, 320, 640 and 1280 pixels in image width) and spectral (32, 64, 128, 256, 512 and 1024 bands) resolutions. Formulas are presented to show the relationships among binning factors, spatial resolutions, and flight height and speed. Images with all 24 possible combinations of binning factors were collected in a laboratory setting. Airborne images with 128 bands and a width of 640 pixels were also obtained from agricultural fields, rangelands and waterways. Procedures were developed to correct geometric distortions of the airborne hyperspectral imagery. Preliminary image acquisition testing trials indicate that this CCD camerabased hyperspectral imaging system has potential for agricultural and natural resources applications. [Termes IGN] restitutionRésumé : (Auteur) Digital elevation models (DEMs) produced from photogrammetric data sources have long relied on the use of ground control points to give them scale and orientation. However, in areas such as coastlines, landslides, or glaciers, where identification of suitable natural features and premarking is difficult, the use of conventional ground control may be unfeasible. This paper reports on research that uses independently collected DEMs derived from kinematic GPS to orient surfaces produced by aerial photogrammetric methods, using a leastsquares surface matching algorithm. During algorithm development, three stages of testing were carried out, Using increasingly more complex datasets. Initially, simulated surfaces were used to validate the matching theory and program. Then, a DEM derived from conventional aerial photography was matched with a GPS model, highlighting the effectiveness of surface matching to recover systematic errors in datosets. Finally, surfaces derived from small format digital imagery were successfully fused with wireframe GPS surfaces, the high redundancy and automation potential creating an elegant and cheaper alternative to photocontrol. [Termes IGN] ZimbabweRésumé : (Auteur) In this article the use of remote sensing techniques to locate minefields over a number of selected areas in Zimbabwe is discussed, representing different types of landmine deployment, climatic zones, natural environments, etc. In order to detect the minefields use is made of indirect indicators as the detail of the images did not allow direct identification of landmines. The work conducted is focussing on the suitability of multitemporal aerial photographs and satellite images for the detection of minefields together with ancillary (conflict) information. Analysis of the images acquired showed that, even at lower spatial resolutions, but through the use of multitemporal images, important minefield related indicators could be identified, providing important information for the mine action process. For validation of the interpretations use was made of a minefield map book that was available for these border minefields. [Termes IGN] photographie aérienneRésumé : (Auteur) An orthophoto is a fundamental information source in forestry. Orthophoto production is usally based on digital elevation models (DEM) ; however, the elevations of 3D objects suchs as buildings and trees, which are visible in large-scale photos, are not included in DEMs. Recently initiated "true orthophoto" generation has been dedicated to urban scenes, removing the displacement caused by both the terrain and buildings. This paper reports an effort on reducing occlusion and distortion caused by trees in true orthoimage generation for forested areas. Canopy surface models (CMS) depicting both the terrain and tree surfaces were used in forest orthoimage production. Z-buffer techniques were incorporated into indirect orthoimage production to remove occlusion. An angle-based strategy was applied to composite multi-occular images. The proposed techniques were applied in the generation of high-resolution orthoimages of redwood stand with 1:2 400-scale aerial photos.
