[Termes IGN] Viet NamRésumé : (Auteur) This paper shows the research of coastal morphological changes in Red river delta using Remote Sensing and GIS technique. Study was carried out to assess the intensity of erosion, deposition and sand bar movement in the study area. Satellite images of ALOS/AVNIR-2 and Landsat MSS, TM, ETM+ were used for the monitoring of coastal morphological changes over the period of 1975 to 2009. Band rationing and threshold technique was used for the coastline extraction. Tidal levels at the time of image acquisition varied from 1.47m to 2.72. Therefore, coastline from another image at a different tidal level in the same year was considered to get the corrected coastline by interpolation technique. A series of points were generated along the coastline from 1975 image and were established as reference points to see the change in later periods. The changes were measured in distances from these reference points to the other coastline. Positive values represented deposition to the sea and negative values are erosion. The research showed that maximum erosion was 23.77 m/y between 1975 and 1989 in GiaoThuy, Nam Dinh area.
Human activities, such as shrimp farming and mangrove cultivation have expanded land nearly 3.5 km in Red river mouth and 2.8 km in Thai Binh river mouth from 1975 to 2009. The sand bar movement of the deltas were characterized by their alternating location of coastline, rate of deposition and erosion. In the analysis, sand bars were converted into centerlines for calculation. It was found that the sand bars moved 186 in/year in Red river mouth and 195 m/year in Day river mouth. ALOS/AVNIR-2 and Landsat MSS, TM, ETM+
images were classified to determine land cover changes of the coastal zone over three periods of time.Numéro de notice : A2014-369 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Nature : Article DOI : sans Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=73790

[Termes IGN] végétationRésumé : (Auteur) The use of microwave remote sensing for estimating vegeta-tion biomass is limited in arid regions because of the het-erogeneous distribution of vegetation, variable scattering mechanisms from different vegetation components, and the strong influence from underlying ground surface. In order to minimize this problem, a synergistic method of optical and microwave remote sensing data for the retrieval of aboveg-round biomass (agb) based on the modified water cloud model (WCM) was developed in this paper. Vegetation cover-age which can be easily estimated from optical data as ad-ditional information was combined in this method. Dimidiate pixel model (dpm) and phenological subtraction methodology (psm) were used to estimate vegetation coverage and differen--tiate vegetation types in the sub-pixel domain, respectively. The percentage cover of unmixed vegetation was incorporated to minimize problems associated with heterogeneous vegeta-tion and sparse vegetation cover. Finally, the accuracy and sources of error in this novel AGB retrieval method were evalu-ated. The results showed that the predicted AGB correlated with the measured AGB (R2 = 0.8007; RMSE = 0.2808 kg/m2). [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) Change detection was one of the earliest and is also one of the most important applications of remote sensing technology. For multispectral images, an effective solution for the change detection problem is to exploit all the available spectral bands to detect the spectral changes. However, in practice, the temporal spectral variance makes it difficult to separate changes and nonchanges. In this paper, we propose a novel slow feature analysis (SFA) algorithm for change detection. Compared with changed pixels, the unchanged ones should be spectrally invariant and varying slowly across the multitemporal images. SFA extracts the most temporally invariant component from the multitemporal images to transform the data into a new feature space. In this feature space, the differences in the unchanged pixels are suppressed so that the changed pixels can be better separated. Three SFA change detection approaches, comprising unsupervised SFA, supervised SFA, and iterative SFA, are constructed. Experiments on two groups of real Enhanced Thematic Mapper data sets show that our proposed method performs better in detecting changes than the other state-of-the-art change detection methods. [Termes IGN] orthorectificationRésumé : (Auteur) China–Brazil Earth Resource Satellite (CBERS) imagery is identified as one of the potential data sources for monitoring Earth surface dynamics in the event of a Landsat data gap. Currently available multispectral images from the High Resolution CCD (Charge Coupled Device) Camera (HRCC) on-board CBERS satellites (CBERS-2 and CBERS-2B) are not precisely geo-referenced and orthorectified. The geometric accuracy of the HRCC multispectral image product is found to be within 2–11 km. The use of CBERS-HRCC multispectral images to monitor Earth surface dynamics therefore necessitates accurate geometric correction of these images. This paper presents an automated method for geo-referencing and orthorectifying the multispectral images from the HRCC imager on-board CBERS satellites. Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) Level 1T (L1T) imagery provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is employed as reference for geometric correction. The proposed method introduces geometric distortions in the reference image prior to registering it with the CBERS-HRCC image. The performance of the geometric correction method was quantitatively evaluated using a total of 100 images acquired over the Andes Mountains and the Amazon rainforest, two areas in South America representing vastly different landscapes. The geometrically corrected HRCC images have an average geometric accuracy of 17.04 m (CBERS-2) and 16.34 m (CBERS-2B). While the applicability of the method for attaining sub-pixel geometric accuracy is demonstrated here using selected images, it has potential for accurate geometric correction of the entire archive of CBERS-HRCC multispectral images.
