[Termes IGN] signature spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) Fusion of hyperspectral data is proposed by means of partitioning the hyperspectral bands into subgroups, prior to principal components transformation (PCT). The first principal component of each subgroup is employed for image visualization. The proposed approach is general, with the number of bands in each subgroup being application dependent. Nevertheless, the paper focuses on partitions with three subgroups suitable for RGB representation. One of them employs matched-filtering based on the spectral characteristics of various materials and is very promising for classification purposes. The information content of the hyperspectral bands as well as the quality of the obtained RGB images are quantitatively assessed using measures such as the correlation coefficient, the entropy, and the maximum energy-minimum correlation index. The classification performance of the proposed partitioning approaches is tested using the K-means algorithm. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Hyperspectral data appear to be of a growing interest over the past few years. However, applications for hyperspectral data are still in their infancy as handling the significant size of the data presents a challenge for the user community. Efficient compression techniques are required, and lossy compression, specifically, will have a role to play, provided its impact on remote sensing applications remains insignificant. To assess the data quality, suitable distortion measures relevant to end-user applications are required. Quality criteria are also of a major interest for the conception and development of new sensors to define their requirements and specifications. This paper proposes a method to evaluate quality criteria in the context of hyperspectral images. The purpose is to provide quality criteria relevant to the impact of degradations on several classification applications. Different quality criteria are considered. Some are traditionnally used in image and video coding and are adapted here to hyperspectral images. Others are specific to hyperspectral data. We also propose the adaptation of two advanced criteria in the presence of different simulated degradations on AVIRIS hyperspectral images. Finally, live criteria are selected to give an accurate representation of the nature and the level of the degradation affecting hyperspectral data. [Termes IGN] régression multipleRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of this study was to use Landsat Thematic Mapper TM data combined with surface measurements for mapping water quality parameters of Burullus Lake. Water samples were collected in the field at the same time of satellite image acquisition (April, 1997). TM bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and band ratios 1/4, 3/2, 2/1, 4/2, 4/3, 3/4, 7/5 and principal components of TM bands 1-4 (PC1 and PC2) were compared with in situ measurements and laboratory analysis of water samples. The water quality of interest included, Cl-, K+, Na+, soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, Salinity, Secchi disc and water depth. Also, the percentage of organic matter in bottom sediments and texture (sand, silt, clay) analyses are used in the evaluation processes. Correlation and regression models were developed between each of the water quality parameter measurements and the radiance of image data. Some water quality parameters were significantly correlated with TM radiance data. Subsequently, multiple linear regression models were used to prepare digital cartographic products depicting the water quality over the entire study area. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) A method is presented for filtering and classification of terrestrial laser scanner point clouds. The algorithm exploits the four-channel (blue, green, red and near infrared) multispectral imaging capability of some terrestrial scanners using supervised, parametric classification to assign thematic class labels to all scan cloud points. Its principal advantage is that it is a completely data-driven algorithm and is independent of spatial sampling resolution since the processing is performed in four-dimensional spectral feature space. Its application to two data-sets of different spatial extent and spatial and spectral complexity is reported, for which respective overall classification accuracies of 87.0% and 82.0% were achieved. Analysis of the input data with emphasis on the characteristics pertinent to the anticipated outcomes precedes detailed analysis of the classification results and error sources and their causes. Erroneously classified points are attributed to radiometric errors stemming from both detector hardware and physical effects.
