[Termes IGN] Vegetation Health IndexRésumé : (Auteur) The continuous increase of heavy metal ions in the environment is imposing serious problems in agricultural yield and increases human health threats through accumulation in the food chain. Various studies have shown that heavy metals influence the metabolic processes and pigment concentrations in leaves, and thus affect the laser induced fluorescence (LIF) spectra. Leaf level in vivo LIF spectra using the 488 nm and 355 nm laser lines, fluorescence induction kinetics (FIK) using the 488 nm laser line, and photosynthetic pigments of the control and nickel treated wheat seedlings were measured. The peak parameters of the blue and UV-excited spectral bands were calculated by Gaussian curve fitting. The FIK measured at both the chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence bands was used to evaluate the fluorescence decrease ratio (R Fd). The variations in RFd and fluorescence ratios of intensities, bandwidth and band area, with varying concentrations of nickel, were revealed as promising parameters in determining the health status of wheat seedlings. These leaf level findings can be extended at canopy level in the field using laser based light detection and ranging (LIDAR) systems. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (Auteur) Tokat province is one of the least studied areas in Turkey. Updated spatial information about ferrous minerals (FM) and iron oxide (IO) is often required for studies focusing on environmental modelling, agriculture, and mining. In this study, FM and IO attributes of the province were assessed and mapped by evaluating Landsat-ETM+ satellite images. To avoid incorrect interpretations, dense plant or closed forest areas were determined using the normalized difference vegetative index, and excluded from the evaluation by masking. FM and IO index maps were produced using related algorithms and remote sensing tools. Classification and spatial analysis operations were conducted under the framework of Geographic Information Systems. A natural breaks method was employed for classification, and both indices were summarized in nine classes. The relationship between two index maps was investigated using a bi-variety correlation analysis. The correlation between two index maps (0.549) was found to be significant at the 1% level. Developed index maps were tested using ancillary data from previous studies in the area. The results were summarized at the administrative district level. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Geospatial technology is an essential component of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, as environmental resources are directly affected by changes in the shape and extent of the proposed disturbance. With the use of spatial techniques like remote sensing, Geographical Information Systems, and Global Positioning Systems, EIA has enhanced substantial viewing, movement, query, and even map-making capabilities. However, one of the main challenges is to have access to the most up-to-date and accurate geospatial data and interpretations. With an emphasis on using geospatial data in particular, the value of the information resource is far higher than is generally available with text and numeric information. This paper focuses on discussing the application of geospatial tools in environmental monitoring and the effective analysis of the natural resources for developmental planning, policy formulation, and decision-making. Several specific relevant applications of geospatial tools to integrate EIA are presented in the context of an Indian scenario. Applications have included monitoring of natural resources (air, water, land, etc.), ground-level ozone, soil erosion, study of sea-level rise due to global warming, change-detection studies, delineation of ecologically sensitive areas using digital-image analysis and Geographic Information Systems. This study focuses on the possibility of using a proposed spatial-decision-support system to conduct EIA, which should make it possible to upload, evaluate, maintain, and report field and analytical data that have been stored in a variety of formats.
