[Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) The detection of changes affecting continental surfaces has important applications in hydrological, meteorological, and climatic modeling. We propose a way to improve mono-index change detection by a fusion of multi-index change detection results. This fusion is performed in the framework of the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory, which is particularly suited to the representation of imprecision and ignorance at the "no change"/" change" class border. Depending on the change detection index considered, we also need to determine the class number and features. This is done using the a contrario theory approach rather than classical statistical tests. The proposed algorithm is applied to forest fire damage evaluation based on three popular change indices: normalized difference values, texture evolution, and mutual information (MI). We find that change index fusion is effective at reducing both false alarm and misdetection levels, due to the complementary nature of these indices. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Cloud screening of satellite data for the remote sensing of atmospheric aerosols, ocean sediments, chlorophyll, and phytoplankton in the marine environment is a major probleme in the absence of information from thermal channel. This is particularly the case with the data from some of the highly potential satellite sensors such as the Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM-on broad the Indian Remote Sensing Satellite, IRS-P4) and the SeaWiFS. Two main tests conventionally used for cloud screening of data from such satellite sensors are the threshold method applied to visible and near-IR bands and the visible to near-IR channel ratio method. These methods do not have the potential to eliminate the pixels with a small cloud fractions, leading to overestimation of the aerosol optical depth (AOD) derived from satellite data, and might also identify the pixels with high values of AOD as cloudy. The purpose of this paper is to study the potential of Spatial Coherence Tests (SCT) applied to the data from the near-IR bands for cloud screening of satellite data over the oceanic environment. We use here the data from IRS-P4 OCM. Though more computationally intensive, the SCT does not suffer from the serious limitations of the threshold and channel ratio methods and is found to be superior in identifying the clear sky pixels that are not affected by clouds. Although the SCT applied to near-IR channel data may be overestimating the number of cloud affected pixels, it neither leads to overestimation of AOD nor identifies the pixels with high AOD values as cloudy. [Termes IGN] pixelRésumé : (Auteur) Matching the diffraction -limited optical resolution with the appropriate detector size is a fundamental design requirement for digital imaging systems. A useful Design Function based on the Airy disk is lF/p = 0.82. Where is the average wavelength, F is the camera F-number, and p is the detector sampling pitch (pixel size). A second metric, attributed to Schade and reported by Holst (1999), produces an often used Design Function: lF1p = 1. Examples demonstrate the use of the Design Functions to determine basic parameters, F-number, focal length, aperture diameter, and pixel size for an imaging system. Pixel size is selected from commercially available arrays and the other parameters are estimated given the required ground sampled distance (GSD) with either of the two Design Functions. One of the primary uses for the Design Functions is to provide optical systems engineers with a simple, fast, and proven means of arriving at first-order estimates -for electro-optical camera designs. It follows that estimating costs for building large space camera systems should be less complicated. [Termes IGN] visualisation cartographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A method to visualize multiple membership maps, called 'Colour mixture' (CM) is described and compared with alternative techniques: defuzzification and Pixel mixture. Six landform parameters were used to derive the landform classes using supervised fuzzy k-means classification. The continuous categorical map is derived by GIS calculations with colours, where colour values are considered to represent the taxonomic space spanned by the attribute variables. Coordinates of the nine class centres (landform facets) were first transformed from multivariate to two-dimensional attribute space using factor analysis, and then projected on the Hue Saturation Intensity (HSI) colourwheel. The taxonomic value was coded with the Hue and confusion with Saturation. To improve visual impression, saturation was replaced with whiteness. Classes that were closer in attribute space were merged into similar generic colours. The CM technique limits the derived mixed-colour map to seven generic hues independently of the total number of classes, which provides a basis for automated generalization. The confusion index derived from the mixed-colour map was used to derive primary boundaries and to locate areas of higher taxonomic confusion. [Termes IGN] rendement agricoleRésumé : (Auteur) This study demonstrates a unique matrix approach to determine within-field variability in wheat yields using fine spatial resolution 4 m IKONOS data. The matrix approach involves solving a system of simultaneous equations based on IKONOS data and post-harvest yields available at entire field scale. This approach was compared with a regression-based modelling approach involving field-sensor measured yields and the corresponding IKONOS measured indices and wavebands. The IKONOS data explained 74-78% variability in wheat yield. This is a significant result since the finer spatial resolution leads to capturing greater spatial variability and detail in landscape relative to coarser spatial resolution data. A pixel-by-pixel mapping of wheat yield variability highlights the fine spatial detail provided by IKONOS data for precision farming applications.
