[Termes IGN] traitement d'image radarRésumé : (éditeur) The aim of this book is to demonstrate the use of SAR data in three application domains, i.e. land cover (Part II), topography (Part III), and land motion (Part IV). These are preceded by Part I, where an extensive and complete review on speckle and adaptive filtering is provided, essential for the understanding of SAR images. Part II is dedicated to land cover mapping. Part III is devoted to the generation of Digital Elevation Models based on radargrammetry and on a wise fusion (by considering sensor characteristic and acquisition geometry) of interferometric and photogrammetric elevation data. Part IV provides a contribution to three applications related to land motion. Note de contenu : 1- Adaptive speckle filtering in radar imagery

[Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The reconstruction of digital surface models (DSMs) of urban areas from interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data is a challenging task. In particular the SAR inherent layover and shadowing effects need to be coped with by sophisticated processing strategies. In this paper, a maximum-likelihood estimation procedure for the reconstruction of DSMs from multi-aspect multi-baseline InSAR imagery is proposed. In this framework, redundant as well as contradicting observations are exploited in a statistically optimal way. The presented method, which is especially suited for single-pass SAR interferometers, is examined using test data consisting of experimental airborne millimeterwave SAR imagery. The achievable accuracy is evaluated by comparison to LiDAR-derived reference data. It is shown that the proposed estimation procedure performs better than a comparable non-statistical reconstruction method. [Termes IGN] interféromètrie par radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (auteur) Satellite radar interferometry (InSAR) is a powerful technique to measure motion of the Earth’s surface. However, the applicability of the conventional approach is limited due to error sources: temporal decorrelation, geometric decorrelation, and atmospheric signal delay. Radar interferometric time series approaches have been developed to overcome these degrading factors. By using the information content of a full radar image stack, the impact of the error sources can be reduced and time series of the deformation history can be estimated. The Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) technique, one of the time series approaches, is based on the coherent phase history of point scatterers. Since the location of these point scatterers is not known beforehand, PSI comprises both an estimation and a detection problem. The complicating factor in the estimation and detection process is the wrapped condition of the phase observations, i.e., phase observations in the [−π,+π) interval. As a consequence, the coherence of an image pixel in the time domain cannot be assessed directly. Furthermore, assumptions regarding the spatial and/or temporal smoothness of the deformation signal, expressed by a model, are required to estimate the unknown phase ambiguities. Therefore, both the correctness of the model used, and the actual phase persistence of the pre-selected pixels should be assessed. The multiple, model dependent, possible solutions, in combination with the uncertainty in the actual noise level of a certain image pixel, require a balanced procedure in the estimation and detection process. Hereby, the number of false detections and false rejections of these Persistent Scatterers (PS) should be minimized. This thesis describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a new Persistent Scatterer Interferometry algorithm, the Delft implementation of PSI (DePSI). The algorithm is based on a framework of geodetic estimation, testing, and quality control techniques, known as the ’Delft school’. Using this framework, the algorithm is able to detect point scatterers with consistent reflection properties over time, for which the deformation time series can be estimated with sufficient reliability. [Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (auteur) A new method for unmixing radar polarimetric images with optical images is proposed. It was found that the polarimetric covariance matrix can be unmixed considering a linear model. As a result, this model is used to produce unmixed covariance matrices based on land cover types. We hope to prove that this unmixing of the polarimetric information produce greater information for land cover classification. [Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (Auteur) Orthorectification using digital terrain models is a key issue for full-polarimetric complex SAR data because resampling the complex data can corrupt the polarimetric phase, mainly in terrain with relief. This research thus compared two methods for the orthorectification of the complex SAR data: The polarimetric processing is performed before (image-space method) or after (ground-space method) the geometric processing. Radarsat-2 fine-quad data acquired with different look angles over a hilly relief study site were orthorectified using accurate light detection and ranging digital surface model. Quantitative evaluations between the two methods as a function of different geometric and radiometric parameters were thus performed to evaluate the impact during orthorectification. The results demonstrated that the look angles and the terrain slopes can potentially corrupt the polarimetric complex SAR data during its orthorectification with the ground-space method. In addition, general advice is provided to reduce these impacts to an acceptable level for the users and their polarimetric applications.
