[Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) Simulation models are increasingly applied in the field of spatial planning. The frequently farreaching consequences of policy decisions have led to a growing need among policymakers for gaining the clearest possible insight into the advantages and disadvantanges of policy goals. This has contributed to a wider range of simulation models becoming available, which fortunately - by means of user-friendly interfaces - can also be used more and more by people who are not experts on the subject of models. In this article, a prototype of a simulation model will be presented, which will enable the users to determine, on the basis of alternative policy goals, which locations should be used for house building. Subsequently, the locations concerned can be examined as to what extent they will be able to meet future needs for expansion. This model has been called WODGIS, which is a contraction of the names of the two major components. Indeed, the WODYN-model is used for simulating developments on the housing market, while a GIS-application is used for selecting potential building sites. With this WODGIS-model, an attempt is made to demonstrate that the integration of existing model applications offers new uses. An attempt wich, however, is regarded as a first step in a process of development towards a fully integrated simulation model for making spatial effect-analyses.
