[Termes IGN] tempêteRésumé : (Auteur) The states of Honduras, Nicaragua, and EI Salvador have been toughly hit by the "Mitch" hurricane in the first days of November 1998. The extent of damages due to this hurricane, as well as their impact upon local economy were exceptional. In this framework, a remote sensing project was immediately initiated to provide a large scale evaluation of the damages suffered by the three countries. To reach this objective, new remote sensing products called TmDYNAMICRADAR and TmIDYNAMICOPTICAL products have been designed. These products are, based on using, either radar satellite images, or optical/radar satellite data fusion. The most efficient techniques have been applied to produce these products, thus enabling change detection at a very fine spatial scale (from 20 meters x 20 meters to 10 meters x 10 meters). Project schedule and operations, as well as the validation of its products are reported in this article. [Termes IGN] VénézuelaRésumé : (Auteur) After the devastation caused by two weeks of torrential rain in Venezuela in the second half of December 1999, it is estimated that up to 30,000 people have died in floods and landslides; a further 200,000 people have been left homeless as whole towns along the Caribbean coast have been washed away (Centeno 1999). Concerned about the dramatic extent of this human tragedy, PRIVATEERS N.V. has immediately offered its support to Venezuela. Supported by the French Space Agency (CNES) and the European Space Agency (ESA) who provided the sets of SPOT and ERS SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images acquired before and after the disaster, this project aims to the provision of cartographic maps designed to assess the situation and to help with the rehabilitation of the country. These maps are designed to be easily exploitable by local photo-interpreters. [Termes IGN] système d'information agronomiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This report provides an assessment of the sources of information related to global radiation presently available in Europe. £It includes an inventory of the radiation balance components which are being observed by the different meteorological services in Europe and of the instrumentation used. Plots of the spatial and seasonal variation of the Angstorm formula have been made. For seasonal distribution, a sine/cosine approximation has been established. £As radiation observations are not always available, this report also identifies a methodology for estimating daily global radiation on the basis of parameters which are readily available on the Global Telecommunication system. Two formulae are presented : one based on maximum and minimum temperature alone and one based on these variables in combination with cloudcover. Both equations include regression constants which were calibrated across Europe. Note de contenu : 1 - Introduction
2 - Inventory of the radiation balance components and instrumentation available in Europe.
3 - Study of the "a" and "b" values of the Angström formula.
4 - Interpolation of daily global radiation.
5 - Practical techniques to estimate solar radiation from existing observations of other parameters.
6 - Final remarks

[Termes IGN] système d'information agronomiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The present document describes the theoretical background of WOFOST. It has been prepared at the request of JRC by Iwan Supit on the basis of an earlier draft by Alex Hooijer. The editors have scanned the Fortran source code and scattered reports, books and articles, in particular the wealth of documents available from the Department of Theoretical Production Ecology of the Wageningen Agricultural University, the DLO-Winand Staring Centre (SC-DLO) and the Research Institute for Agrobiology and Soil Fertility (AB-DLO, formerly CABO). They selected what was applicable to WOFOST, and filled the gaps. This resulted in this more or less complete functional description of WOFOST Version 6.0, partly already published elsewhere by various authors. The motive to bring out this publication was that the original system description of WOFOST in the Simulation Monograph by van Keulen and Wolf (1986) does not cover the present model completely anymore, because of the inclusion of many new and more detailed process descriptions. The same applies to the WOFOST42 documentation by van Diepen et al (1988). This report is part of the software documentation of the CGMS and WOFOST. Other WOFOST documentation includes a user guide and a concise system description, to be published as SC-DLO Technical Documents, which are supplemented by documents on the Fortran Simulation Environment (FSE), the subroutine library TTUTIL, and the CABO weather documentation, all published by AB-DLO in the series "CABO-TT simulation reports".
