[Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (auteur) In adjusted geodetic networks, cases of local configuration defects (defects in the geometric structure of the network due to missing data or errors in point numbering) can be encountered, which lead to the singularity of the normal equation system in the least-squares procedure. Numbering errors in observation sets cause the computer program to define the network geometry incorrectly. Another cause of a defect may be accidental omission of certain data records, causing local indeterminacy or lowering of local reliability rates in a network. Obviously, the problem of a configuration defect may be easily detectable in networks with a small number of points. However, it becomes a real problem in large networks, where manual checking of all data becomes a very expensive task. The paper presents a new strategy for the detection of configuration defects with the use of the Tikhonov regularization method. The method was implemented in 1992 in the GEONET system (www.geonet.net.pl). [Vedettes matières IGN] Traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (auteur) Based on the results of Luati and Proietti (Ann Inst Stat Math 63:673–686, 2011) on an equivalence for a certain class of polynomial regressions between the diagonally weighted least squares (DWLS) and the generalized least squares (GLS) estimator, an alternative way to take correlations into account thanks to a diagonal covariance matrix is presented. The equivalent covariance matrix is much easier to compute than a diagonalization of the covariance matrix via eigenvalue decomposition which also implies a change of the least squares equations. This condensed matrix, for use in the least squares adjustment, can be seen as a diagonal or reduced version of the original matrix, its elements being simply the sums of the rows elements of the weighting matrix. The least squares results obtained with the equivalent diagonal matrices and those given by the fully populated covariance matrix are mathematically strictly equivalent for the mean estimator in terms of estimate and its a priori cofactor matrix. It is shown that this equivalence can be empirically extended to further classes of design matrices such as those used in GPS positioning (single point positioning, precise point positioning or relative positioning with double differences). Applying this new model to simulated time series of correlated observations, a significant reduction of the coordinate differences compared with the solutions computed with the commonly used diagonal elevation-dependent model was reached for the GPS relative positioning with double differences, single point positioning as well as precise point positioning cases. The estimate differences between the equivalent and classical model with fully populated covariance matrix were below the mm for all simulated GPS cases and below the sub-mm for the relative positioning with double differences. These results were confirmed by analyzing real data. Consequently, the equivalent diagonal covariance matrices, compared with the often used elevation-dependent diagonal covariance matrix is appropriate to take correlations in GPS least squares adjustment into account, yielding more accurate cofactor matrices of the unknown. [Termes IGN] résiduRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present several estimators of the diagonal elements of the inverse of the covariance matrix, called precision matrix, of a sample of independent and identically distributed random vectors. The main focus is on the case of high dimensional vectors having a sparse precision matrix. It is now well understood that when the underlying distribution is Gaussian, the columns of the precision matrix can be estimated independently form one another by solving linear regression problems under sparsity constraints. This approach leads to a computationally efficient strategy for estimating the precision matrix that starts by estimating the regression vectors, then estimates the diagonal entries of the precision matrix and, in a final step, combines these estimators for getting estimators of the off-diagonal entries. While the step of estimating the regression vector has been intensively studied over the past decade, the problem of deriving statistically accurate estimators of the diagonal entries has received much less attention. The goal of the present paper is to fill this gap by presenting four estimators —that seem the most natural ones— of the diagonal entries of the precision matrix and then performing a comprehensive empirical evaluation of these estimators. The estimators under consideration are the residual variance, the relaxed maximum likelihood, the symmetry-enforced maximum likelihood and the penalized maximum likelihood. We show, both theoretically and empirically, that when the aforementioned regression vectors are estimated without error, the symmetry-enforced maximum likelihood estimator has the smallest estimation error. However, in a more realistic setting when the regression vector is estimated by a sparsity-favoring computationally efficient method, the qualities of the estimators become relatively comparable with a slight advantage for the residual variance estimator. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) We describe a procedure to accurately measure ground deformations from optical satellite images. Precise orthorectification is obtained owing to an optimized model of the imaging system, where look directions are linearly corrected to compensate for attitude drifts, and sensor orientation uncertainties are accounted for. We introduce a new computation of the inverse projection matrices for which a rigorous resampling is proposed. The irregular resampling problem is explicitly addressed to avoid introducing aliasing in the ortho-rectified images. Image registration and correlation is achieved with a new iterative unbiased processor that estimates the phase plane in the Fourier domain for subpixel shift detection. Without using supplementary data, raw images are wrapped onto the digital elevation model and coregistered with a 1/50 pixel accuracy. The procedure applies to images from any pushbroom imaging system. We analyze its performance using Satellite pour l'Observation de la Terre (SPOT) images in the case of a null test (no coseismic deformation) and in the case of large coseismic deformations due to the Mw 7.1 Hector Mine, California, earthquake of 1999. The proposed technique would also allow precise coregistration of images for the measurement of surface displacements due to ice-flow or geomorphic processes, or for any other change detection applications. A complete software package, the Coregistration of Optically Sensed Images and Correlation, is available for download from the Caltech Tectonics Observatory website. The reflectance field describes the transport of light between the light incident on an object and the light exitant from it. This has numerous applications in areas that include entertainment, cultural heritage, digital libraries and space exploration. The central problem with this approach is the lack of fast methods to acquire the reflectance field data. This dissertation addresses this problem and describes a system for acquiring the reflectance field of real world objects that performs many orders of magnitude faster than the previous approaches. The system models the 8D reflectance field as a transport matrix between the 4D incident light field and the 4D exitant light field. It is a challenging task to measure this matrix because of its large size. However, in some cases the matrix is sparse, e.g. in scenes with little or no inter-reflections. To measure such matrices, this thesis describes a hierarchical technique called dual photography which exploits this sparseness to parallelize the acquisition process. This technique, however, performs poorly for scenes with significant diffuse inter-reflections because in such cases the matrix is dense. Fortunately, in these cases the matrix is often data-sparse. Data-sparseness refers to the fact that sub-blocks of the matrix can be well approximated using low-rank representations. Additionally, the transport matrix is symmetric. Symmetry enables simultaneous measurements from both sides, rows and columns, of the transport matrix. These measurements are used to develop a hierarchical acquisition algorithm that can exploit the data-sparseness by a local rank-1 approximation. This technique, called symmetric photography, parallelizes the acquisition for dense but data-sparse transport matrices. In the process, this thesis introduces the use of hierarchical tensors as the underlying data structure to represent data-sparse matrices, specifically through local rank-1 factorizations of the transport matrix. Besides providing an efficient representation for storage, it enables fast acquisition of the approximated transport matrix and fast rendering of the images from the captured matrix. The prototype acquisition system consists of an array of mirrors and a pair of coaxial projector and camera controlled by a computer. The effectiveness of the system is demonstrated with scenes rendered from reflectance fields that were captured by this system. In these renderings one can change the viewpoint as well as relight objects using arbitrary incident light fields. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction
