[Termes IGN] TéhéranRésumé : (auteur) Natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods together with the urban sprawl conducted by increasing the population make multi-temporal changes in building areas. Destruction, buildings’ renovation, and constructing new buildings are the main changes of the urban areas that should be detected to update three-dimensional city models. The results of performing three-dimensional changes detecting of high altitude objects such as buildings are more close to reality than the two-dimensional methods. In this study, a three-dimensional changes detection method is proposed based on digital elevation models (DEMs). In the first step of this proposed method, the normalized digital surface model (nDSM) is generated for timely datasets. Then, object-based image analysis is utilized by performing segmentation followed by the structural classification of DEMs. Differencing and comparing the multi-temporal classification maps as the third step of the proposed algorithm led to analyzing the occurred changes. The obtained results are evaluated in an urban area in Tehran, Iran, in a 9-year time interval. These results represent −9.7% decreasing rate in low-rise buildings and also −1.37% decreases in the ground. Moreover, the class of high-rise buildings increased for +16.4% which conforms to making new constructions in addition to the renovation of low-rise buildings. According to the area analyzing of the changes, 4.8% of the investigated study area has new constructions, 3.05% has buildings’ renovation, and 3.89% has destruction in that 9-year period. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a skyline-based approach to enhance the visualization of a new construction project in augmented reality. We propose to process the video stream acquired with a mobile phone to register the real buildings with a 3D city model. We first combine the data acquired with the device’s instruments to estimate a rough user’s pose in the world coordinates system. Then, we use this estimated pose to generate a synthetic image of the user’s view from which we calculate a virtual skyline. In parallel, we extract a real skyline from the real-time video stream. Finally, we match these real and virtual skylines to correct the user’s pose (six degrees of freedom) and thus generate a more realistic augmented reality view. We evaluate the precision and the processing time of our approach using 2D and 3D registration algorithms, as well as with a novel double 2D strategy. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) Urban lidar data are advantageous for capturing the terrain surface of built-up areas, which can be directly used to provide digital surface models. Cloud points are classified into ground points to obtain digital terrain models. This study proposes a method to improve the progressive triangulated irregular network (TIN ) densification method using a TIN connection analysis algorithm, namely, connection analysis via slope analysis. The proposed method comprises five steps: selection of seed points, connection and slope analysis, increasing the seed points, construction of the TIN model of the seed points, and an iterative construction of the final TIN. Seven data sets from the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Working Group are used to test whether the proposed method can preserve discontinuities of landscapes and reduce omission and total errors by an average of 9% and 5%, respectively; achieving such results can reduce the amount of workload required for result modification during posttreatment, thus decreasing costs. [Termes IGN] Vancouver (Colombie britannique)Résumé : (Auteur) Urban densification is often seen as a process that aims to limit the negative environmental impacts of urban sprawl in rapidly growing cities by prioritizing planning policies stimulating vertical growth (or high-rise development) over expansion along the urban fringe. Densification of major Canadian urban areas has led to the proliferation of high-rises with an increasing proportion of residents occupying these buildings rather than traditional individual housing. Thus, there is a need for analytical methods that can evaluate the suitability of different residential units in vertical urban developments based on unique criteria for different stakeholders such as prospective residents, developers, or municipal planners. Multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) analysis with weighted linear combination (WLC) is frequently implemented in geographic information systems (GIS) to identify the appropriate solution(s) for a decision problem. However, there are currently no available MCE methods for spatial analysis that can provide evaluation in a three-dimensional (3D) GIS environment, such as for urban vertical development. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to propose a 3D WLC-MCE suitability analysis method for suitability of high-rise residential units in a dense urban area. Five preference scenarios were developed and applied to data from City of Vancouver, Canada. The results indicate that south-facing units and units on higher floors generally exhibit higher levels of suitability as they are less affected by the noise and pollution of the urban road network and receive more sunlight and ocean views. The proposed 3D MCE approach can be used for urban planning and property tax assessment.
