[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Changes in object geometry-type such as area to line are necessary in terms of the requirements of cartographic generalisation, and also for the creation of the network topology in geographical information systems. Geometry-type changes that reduce dimension include area-line, area-point and line-point changes. This study focuses on area-line changes. Since the area objects have different shapes, there is no unique solution that works in all possible situations. Well-known methods for area-line changes include triangulation, water lining, straight skeletons, etc. In this paper, an approach based on triangulation is introduced for creating road centerlines from blocks of parcels. Spaghetti large-scale map data are taken into consideration in this approach in which blocks of parcels are captured as polygons and roads are represented by the space between them. In order to implement this approach, a subprogram (script) is developed under the NETCAD software package - a Turkish CAD-GIS software package - with the Visual Basic scripting language. This subprogram also includes post-processing routines for the relevant node creation at road crossings, and delivers acceptable results for the centerlines; however, the post-processing needs to be improved. This research extends these operations to the vector data model. It first discusses how the spatial scopes of analysis can be defined for point, line, and polygon features analogous to the raster cell. Then it introduces the local, focal, and zonal operations available for vector features, followed by providing a prototype syntax that might guide the implementation of these operations. Through example applications, this research also demonstrates the usefulness of these operations by comparing them with traditional vector spatial analysis. [Termes IGN] sous ensemble flouRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we introduce a system able to generate an intuitive, human-like linguistic description of the topological relationships between two objects. The description includes approximate terms commonly found in daily communications. It attempts to capture the essential characteristics of the relationships, while leaving out superfluous and possibly overwhelming detail. The objects are 2-D image objects. They need not be convex, nor connected, and they may have holes in them. Each description is built around Allen relations, based on information extracted from F-histograms. It consists of a topological component that indicates the primary topological relationships, directional estimates of where these relationships are most prominent, and a self-assessment component which reflects the complexity of the situation. Experiments on synthetic and real data validate the approach. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (Auteur) Current database systems cannot only store standard data like integer, string, and real values, but also spatial data like points, lines, and regions. The importance of topological relationships between spatial objects has been recognized a long time ago. Using the well known 9-intersection model for describing such relationships, a lot of different topological relationships can be distinguished. For the query language of a database system, it is not desirable to have such a large number of topological predicates. Particularly the query language should not be extended by a lot of predicate names. It is desirable to build new relationships from existing ones, for example to coarse the granularity. This paper describes how a database system user can define and use her own topological predicates. We show algorithms for computing such predicates in an efficient way. Last, we compare these general versions with specialized implementations of topological predicates.
