[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Daily solar radiation estimates of four up-to-date solar radiation models (Solar Analyst, r.sun, SRAD and Solei-32), based on a digital elevation model (DEM), have been evaluated and compared in a Mediterranean environment characterized by a complex topography. The models' estimates were evaluated against 40 days of radiometric data collected in 14 stations. Analyzed sky conditions ranged from completely overcast conditions to clear skies. Additionally, the role of the spatial resolution of the DEM has been evaluated through the use of two different resolutions: 20 and 100 m. Results showed that, under clear-sky conditions, the daily solar radiation variability in the study area may be reasonably estimated with mean bias errors under 10% and root mean square error values of around 15%. On the other hand, results proved that the reliability of the estimates substantially decreases under overcast conditions for some of the solar radiation models. Regarding the role of the DEM spatial resolution, results suggested that the reliability of the estimates for complex topography areas under clear-sky conditions improves using a higher spatial resolution. [Termes IGN] strontiumRésumé : (auteur) From the summit downslope a granitic inselberg in French Guiana, soils and vegetation evolve from bare granite covered by cyanobacteria, to a savannah-type vegetation on thin patchy sandy accumulations, then to a low forest on shallow young soils and to a high forest on deep highly weathered ultisols. We have used element budgets and Sr isotopic variations in soils and plants to investigate the mineral nutrient supply sources of the different plant communities. Granite and atmospheric deposition have 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 1.3 and 0.71, respectively. The 87Sr/86Sr ratio of cyanobacteria (0.72) suggests granite weathering by cyanobacteria crusts. The 87Sr/86Sr ratio of the savannah-type vegetation is 0.73 and varies between 0.75 and 0.76 in the low and high forest leaf litter regardless of soil depth, age and degree of impoverishment. These almost constant ratio suggest that forest Sr comes from rainwater and from the summit of this inselberg, where it is released and redistributed along the slope, by surface flow, lateral redistribution of litter, and mineral particles. However, because of its very low content in the rock and soils, Ca is supplied to plants by atmospheric deposition. [Termes IGN] VBARésumé : (Auteur) (Auteur) Soil erosion is one of the most serious problems in the mountainous areas. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are widely applied to predict soil erosion, as all factors on soil erosion can be extracted by spatial analysis. Therefore, the quality of spatial data plays a great role on the prediction and the most appropriated data should be used for input data to the model.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the sensitivity of GIS data quality for the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model. Different quality of GIS data input for two catchments in Switzerland and a catchment in Thailand are applied to the calculation. A programmed Visual Basic Application (VBA) extension on ArcGIS 9.2 and the geostatistics analysis are used for the calculation.
Moreover, the study aims to improve the soil erosion prediction, experienced from the study, using GIS technology. In order to achieve the aim, the study recommends, different methods : the use of GIS database of different soil-scales, the soil GIS data sharing, the Web-based GIS soil data and the soil erosion metadata model.
From the study, the developed algorithm (VBA application) is implemented on ArcGIS 9.2 Interface and has shown to be a good tool for the RUSLE model in the study areas. The results of the study present that in the heterogeneous slope area, the finer Digital Elevation Model (DEM) yields more accurate the soil erosion values. In contrast, in the flatter area, coarse DEM derives similar results to the finer ones. The finer OEMs are expensive, therefore it should be used as necessary.
Also, the channelization results using different methods, which combine DEM and a Vector River Network (VRN), are completed. The results show that the VRN is very effective to identify the channels starting points. The study highly recommends to combine the VRN with the DEM for channelization in all cases.
Furthermore, the soil erosion metadata model is established conforming to the ISO 19115. It is found that the basic GIS data (DEM, Vector River Network, etc.) can apply to ISO 19115, but specific metadata (soil types, cropping types, etc.) is needed to identify the particular data. Altogether, the GIS data transfer, the interoperability in GIS, a unique standard for soil classifications, Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) and the soil erosion metadata model should be completed for all soil data in order to share all data from different sources or organizations. The methodologies will support all users to access the most appropriate GIS data and then obtain the more accurate soil erosion.Note de contenu : Chapter 1 Introduction
