[Termes IGN] zone sinistréeRésumé : (Auteur) This work proposes a nighttime flood mapping method for Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (modis) data. Brightness temperatures at 3.9 um, and BT11 um channels (BT 3.9, and BT 11, respectively) and differences of brightness temperatures between 3.9 um and 4.0 um, and between 11 um and 12 um (BT 3.9-BT 4.0, and BT 11- BT 12, respectively) are used to identify nighttime water pixels by a support vector machines (SVM) classifier. Prominent flood locations are detected by a change detection process using a reference water-land map. To test the effectiveness of the proposed method, two flood cases caused by heavy rains were chosen as trial scenarios. The nighttime mapping results are validated with the flood maps, which are obtained from the visual interpretation based on the daytime flood identification results. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is effective for the delineation of inundated areas with standing water during the nighttime. [Termes IGN] transformation rapide de FourierRésumé : (Auteur) Building structures are extremely sensitive to the influence of outdoor conditions. The most frequent types of outdoor conditions are the influence of wind, sunshine, changes in the temperature of a building's surroundings and, lastly, the effect of a buildings own loading or the improper loading by another source. According to the resonance of the structure with its surroundings, vibrations and oscillations at relatively high frequency intervals (0.1–100.0 Hz) also occur. These phenomena significantly affect the static and dynamic characteristics of structures, as well as their safety and functionality. The paper provides an example of the monitoring of these phenomena using geodetic methods at two different types of structures. The first example is an industrial structure with a cylindrical shape, the monitoring of which was made by a total station with a measuring frequency of approximately 2 Hz. The second example is the Apollo Bridge on the Danube in Bratislava (Slovakia), the steel structure of which was measured by acceleration sensors with a frequency of up to 10 Hz. The central aim of the paper is an analysis of the dynamic behavior of both structures using spectral analysis methods. The use of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and the Lomb–Scargle periodogram is described; the structure's own frequencies and the amplitudes of the structure's oscillations are calculated. [Termes IGN] Texas (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (Auteur) The electronically steerable flash lidar (ESFL) is a waveform lidar sensor that incorporates two advances relevant to the design of future spaceborne lidar sensors. The first is a nonmechanical scanner that splits a single incoming beam into a variable number of output beams that can be aligned independently across track; the transmitted beam pattern can be changed up to 60 Hz. The second is a flash focal plane array (FFPA) capable of recording waveforms simultaneously from a 128 x 128 pixel grid with individual footprints spread over multiple pixels. In this paper, the incoming beam was used to illuminate eight 8.4-m footprints which were imaged simultaneously on 12 x 12 pixel subsets of the FFPA. The FFPA digitizes waveforms at a vertical resolution of 75 cm over 41 vertical bins to create waveforms of 30.75-m depth. Multiple waveforms obtained using range-gating were combined for these analyses. ESFL data were collected at Manitou Experimental Forest (MEF), located in the Pikes Peak National Forest, Colorado, USA and the Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest (AEF), located in the Angelina Forest, Nacogdoches, TX. We evaluated the use of individual pixel-level and aggregated footprint-level waveforms and alternate approaches to define the extent of each footprint in the focal plane array. Using discrete return lidar data as a reference, we evaluated the ability of ESFL lidar to estimate canopy height and compared the two sensors' rates of penetration to the terrain surface. We found the footprint-level waveforms were better suited for use with existing waveform processing techniques, although techniques for processing at the pixel-level appear feasible. Relationships between height estimates from each lidar data set were most closely related when footprint-level ESFL waveforms were calculated after removing pixels that had less than 50% of the maximum energy within that footprint. Regressions between ESFL and reference lidar data estimates - f height explained 84% (AEF) and 85% (MEF) of variance; this study could not say definitively which method yielded the more accurate estimate of height. In the past six years, the SETHI instrument, hosted on board a Falcon 20 aircraft, has been developed with a main focus on science applications. In this paper, the philosophy of this development is highlighted together with a detailed description of the instruments. The SETHI instrument includes three SAR systems at P, L and X bands, one context camera in the visible domain, with a side looking geometry matching the radar field of view, and a hyperspectral camera with standard nadir geometry. The paper then summarises the latest SETHI campaigns in the context of two spaceborne mission preparations. The first is the ESA BIOMASS mission with a P-Band SAR instrument for global forest biomass mapping. The second one is a maritime surveillance mission, including an X-band SAR system. For each campaign, the main objectives are listed, the references to the dedicated papers are provided and the major results are highlighted. Finally the paper then provides a preview for the future developments around the SETHI system, for studies dedicated to the optical/radar data fusion. [Termes IGN] salinitéRésumé : (Auteur) The SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) satellite was successfully launched in November 2009. This ESA led mission for Earth Observation is dedicated to providing soil moisture over continental surface (with an accuracy goal of 0.04 nf/nf) and ocean salinity (with a goal of 0.1 psu). These two geophysical features are important as they control the energy balance between the surface and the atmosphere. Their knowledge is of interest at global scales for climatic and weather research in particular for improving model forecasts. But it also has impact on various domains, ranging from hurricane monitoring to water resource management. The first six months after the launch, the so called commissioning phase, was dedicated to testing the functionalities of the spacecraft, the instrument and the ground segment including data processing. This phase was successfully completed in May 2010, and SMOS has since been in the routine operation phase, providing data products for the scientific community for over two years. The instrument performance and data quality fit the specifications. However, radio frequency interferences have been detected over large parts of Europe, China, Southern Asia, and the Middle East. The generation of Level 2 soil moisture and ocean salinity data is an on-going activity with continuously improved processings.
