[Termes IGN] variable biophysique (végétation)Résumé : (auteur) This study investigated the relationship between backscattering coefficients of a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and the four biophysical parameters of rice crops—plant height, green vegetation cover, leaf area index, and total dry biomass. A paddy rice field in Miyazaki, Japan was studied from April to July of 2018, which is the rice cultivation season. The SAR backscattering coefficients were provided by Sentinel-1 satellite. Backscattering coefficients of two polarization settings—VH (vertical transmitting, horizontal receiving) and VV (vertical transmitting, vertical receiving)—were investigated. Plant height, green vegetation cover, leaf area index, and total dry biomass were measured at ground level, on the same dates as satellite image acquisition. Polynomial regression lines indicated relationships between backscattering coefficients and plant biophysical parameters of the rice crop. The biophysical parameters had stronger relationship to VH than to VV polarization. A disadvantage of adopting polynomial regression equations is that the equation can have two biophysical parameter solutions for a particular backscattering coefficient value, which prevents simple conversion from backscattering coefficients to plant biophysical parameters. To overcome this disadvantage, the relationships between backscattering coefficients and the plant biophysical parameters were expressed using a combination of two linear regression lines, one line for the first sub-period and the other for the second sub-period during the entire cultivation period. Following this approach, all four plant biophysical parameters were accurately estimated from the SAR backscattering coefficient, especially with VH polarization, from the date of transplanting to about two months, until the mid-reproductive stage. However, backscattering coefficients saturate after two months from the transplanting, and became insensitive to the further developments in plant biophysical parameters. This research indicates that SAR can effectively and accurately monitor rice crop biophysical parameters, but only up to the mid reproductive stage. [Termes IGN] teneur totale en électronsRésumé : (Auteur) Real-time single-frequency precise point positioning (PPP) can be significantly augmented by applying high-quality atmospheric corrections. In previous work, the satellite-and-station-specific slant total electron content (STEC) ionospheric corrections, derived from a regional reference network, are commonly used to augment single-frequency PPP for improving positioning accuracy and faster convergence. However, since the users are required to interpolate STEC ionospheric corrections from nearby reference stations, either duplex communication links should be established or all corrections of the reference network must be retrieved, which makes it inefficient to provide augmentation services to many users. Moreover, the regional tropospheric corrections are generally neglected in augmenting real-time single-frequency PPP. In this study, we present a method to estimate and represent tropospheric and ionospheric corrections from a regional reference network, which can be efficiently disseminated to users through a simplex communication link. First, the uncombined dual-frequency PPP, with external ionospheric constraints derived from international GNSS service predicted global ionospheric map, is used for estimating atmospheric delays with observations from a regional GNSS reference network. Then, the atmospheric delays are properly represented to facilitate real-time transmission by applying a polynomial model for the representation of zenith wet tropospheric corrections, and satellite-specific STEC maps for representing the slant ionospheric corrections. The above results in only simple communication links required to retrieve the regional atmospheric corrections for real-time single-frequency PPP augmentation. Observations from a regional network of 30 GNSS reference stations with inter-station distances of about 70 km during a 1-week-long period, including both quiet and active geomagnetic conditions, are used for generating the regional atmospheric corrections. The results indicate that the average root-mean-square errors of the obtained regional tropospheric and ionospheric corrections are better than 0.01 and 0.05 m when compared with those derived from dual-frequency uncombined PPP, respectively. The positioning accuracy of the single-frequency PPP augmented with regional atmospheric corrections is at 0.141 m horizontally and 0.206 m vertically under a 95% confidence level, a significant improvement compared to single-frequency PPP without atmospheric augmentation. The convergence time is also significantly reduced with 70.4% of the positioning sessions achieving instantaneous 3D convergence. [Termes IGN] vaseRésumé : (Auteur) Estimations of the soil surface water contents and distributions play a key role in the ecological, environmental, and topographical investigations for intertidal mudflats. However, existing techniques have limitations. Long-range terrestrial laser scanners (TLSs) can record the co-located intensity value which refers to a measure of the backscattered laser from each scanned point. Most long-range TLSs emit near-infrared lasers that can be strongly absorbed by water. Thus, the intensity values can be used as proxies for water contents. In this study, the intensity data of long-range TLSs are corrected for the incidence angle and distance effects to quantitatively estimate the soil surface water contents of intertidal mudflats. A case study for a mudflat in Chongming Island, Shanghai, China, is conducted. Results indicate that compared with traditional techniques, the corrected intensity data of long-range TLSs are extremely effective data sources for a quick, accurate, and detailed estimation of water contents for large-area mudflats. The estimation root mean square error is approximately 3%. Furthermore, the 3D distributions of the water contents can be accurately mapped by combining the point cloud of the mudflats to potentially analyze the intrinsic association among water contents and topography, vegetation coverage, and habitation of creatures in mudflats. [Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Editeur) Estuaries and their surrounding wetland regions are among the most productive ecosystems in the world, with more than half of humanity inhabiting their shores. Anthropogenic factors make estuaries highly susceptible to ecosystem degradation. Coastal waters are closely connected with human activity, and their dynamic processes may greatly affect coastal environments. This book provides a compendium of studies on estuarine dynamics, river plumes, and coastal water dynamics, studies that have investigated the changes in estuarine and coastal zones in response to sea-level rise and other environmental factors, and policy and management strategies to ensure the health and economy of coastal zones. This book aims to display novel frontiers in these fields and may help to inspire in-depth studies in the future. Note de contenu :
