[Termes IGN] réfraction de l'eauRésumé : (Auteur) Underwater photogrammetry provides an efficient nondestructive means for measurement in environments with limited accessibility. With the growing use of consumer cameras, its application is becoming easier, thus benefiting a wide variety of disciplines. However, utilizing cameras for underwater photogrammetry poses some nontrivial modeling problems due to refraction effect and the extension of the imaging system into a unit of both the camera and the protecting housing device. This paper studies the effect that the underwater environment has on the photogrammetric process, and proposes a model for describing the geometric distortions and for estimating the additional parameters involved. The proposed model accounts not only for the multimedia effect, but also for inaccuracies related to the setting of the camera and housing device. The paper shows that only a small number of additional parameters is needed to model both elements and to preserve the collinearity relation. The results show that no unique setup is needed for estimating the additional parameters and that the estimation is insensitive to noise or first approximations. Experiments show that high levels of accuracy can be achieved. [Termes IGN] signature spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) A method has been developed to correlate spectral signatures obtained with various fluorescence LIght Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) systems. A calibrated fluorescence reference target was used to calibrate the spectral response of the LIDAR transmitter channels and obtain their transfer functions. Two LIDAR systems have been spectrally characterized, and corrected signatures for two bioaerosols are presented. The first LIDAR system is the Standoff Integrated Bioserosol Active Hyperspectral Detection field LIDAR developed by Defence R&D Canada. This standoff system uses a 351-nm pulsed laser in a monoaxial design. The second system is a lab-sized aerosol chamber designed to characterize fluorescent aerosols under controlled environmental conditions. The chamber was designed according to classical short-range biaxial LIDAR principles, with the purpose of duplicating the results obtained with field LIDAR systems. Aerosols generated within the chamber are probed by a 355-nm pulsed laser, and autofluorescence spectra are measured with a spectrometer and an intensified charge-coupled device camera. This chamber is used to collect the reference spectra of various fluorescing aerosols and simulants of biological agents. One of the main objectives in using this chamber is to produce and compile a library of instrument-free fluorescing spectra that can be transferred to other LIDAR-based bioaerosol sensors with known optical transfer functions. [Termes IGN] signal GPSRésumé : (Auteur) This study provides a first attempt at quantifying potential signal bending effects on the GPS reference frame, coordinates and zenith tropospheric delays (ZTDs). To do this, we homogeneously reanalysed data from a global network of GPS sites spanning 14 years (1995.0–2009.0). Satellite, Earth orientation, tropospheric and ground station coordinate parameters were all estimated. We tested the effect of geometric bending and dTEC bending corrections, which were modelled at the observation level based, in part, on parameters from the International Reference Ionosphere 2007 model. Combined, the two bending corrections appear to have a minimal effect on site coordinates and ZTDs except for low latitude sites. Considering five days (DOY 301–305, 28 October–1 November 2001) near ionospheric maximum in detail, they affect mean ZTDs by up to ~1.7 mm at low latitudes, reducing to negligible levels at high latitudes. Examining the effect on coordinates in terms of power-spectra revealed the difference to be almost entirely white noise, with noise amplitude ranging from 0.3 mm (high latitudes) to 2.4 mm (low latitudes). The limited effect on station coordinates is probably due to the similarity in the elevation dependence of the bending term with that of tropospheric mapping functions. The smoothed z-translation from the GPS reference frame to ITRF2005 changes by less than 2 mm, though the effect combines positively with that from the second order ionospheric refractive index term. We conclude that, at the present time, and for most practical purposes, the geometric and dTEC bending corrections are probably negligible at current GPS/reference frame precisions. [Termes IGN] Oklahoma (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (Auteur) Remote sensing with multispectral thermal infrared can improve regional estimation of evapotranspiration (ET) by providing new constraints on land surface energy balance. Current models use visible and near infrared bands to obtain vegetative cover, and sometimes use thermal infrared data for land surface temperature. Together these can yield good ET estimates. However, it may be possible to do even better by using remotely sensed thermal infrared emissivity, a surface property related to fractional vegetative cover but independent of plant greenness. Emissivities derived from clear-sky Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) observations obtained in 2007 over the Southern Great Plains (Oklahoma and Kansas), USA, were compared with changes in Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for winter wheat and grazing land. Emissivity changes were independent of NDVI and sensitive to standing canopies, regardless of growth stage or senescence. Thus emissivities were seasonally dynamic, able to detect wheat harvest timing, and helpful for modelling ET. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) The Satellite Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) has already demonstrated its potential to map co-, post- and inter-seismic deformation. This paper presents analysis of the surface-displacement field of the 12 May 2008 magnitude 8.0 Wenchuan Earthquake using the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) DInSAR. Six PALSAR interferograms of paths 471 to 476 are generated. A new approach, which uses the information of overlapping interferograms, has been developed to compensate for orbit error. The main advantage of this approach is that the calculation is performed without the need for phase unwrapping. Once the orbit error has been compensated for, the interferograms are then merged to form a single interferogram. The final mosaic of interferograms demonstrates a much more consistent co-seismic surface-displacement field than the original interferograms.
