[Termes IGN] terrasseRésumé : (auteur) Terraces, which are typical artificial landforms found around world, are of great importance for agricultural production and soil and water conservation. However, due to the lack of maintenance, terrace damages often occur and affect the local flow process, which will influence soil erosion. Automatic high-accuracy mapping of terrace damages is the basis of monitoring and related studies. Researchers have achieved artificial terrace damage mapping mainly via manual field investigation, but an automatic method is still lacking. In this study, given the success of high-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry and object-based image analysis (OBIA) for image processing tasks, an integrated framework based on OBIA and UAV photogrammetry is proposed for terrace damage mapping. The Pujiawa terrace in the Loess Plateau of China was selected as the study area. Firstly, the segmentation process was optimised by considering the spectral features and the terrains and corresponding textures obtained from high-resolution images and digital surface models. The feature selection was implemented via correlation analysis, and the optimised segmentation parameter was achieved using the estimation of scale parameter algorithm. Then, a supervised k-nearest neighbourhood classifier was used to identify the terrace damages in the segmented objects, and additional geometric features at the object level were considered for classification. The comparison with the ground truth, as delineated by the image and field survey, showed that proposed classification can be adequately performed. The F-measures of extraction on three terrace damages were 92.07% (terrace sinkhole), 81.95% (ridge sinkhole), and 85.17% (collapse), and the Kappa coefficient was 85.34%. Finally, the potential application and spatial distribution of the terrace damages in this study were determined. We believe that this work can provide a credible framework for mapping terrace damages in the Loess Plateau of China. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) German Aerospace Centre released TanDEM-X 90 m (TDM90) global digital elevation model (GDEM) as freely available in October, 2018 and declared that it describes all Earth’s landmasses pole to pole with 1 m absolute height accuracy which could not been achieved by previous space-borne GDEMs. In this study, the coherence level of TDM90 with SRTM90 and ASTER90 were comprehensively analysed by visual and statistical comparison approaches in two study areas including different topographic characteristics. In visual approaches, colour-scaled coherence maps, contour maps, aspects depending on ascending and descending flying orbits and outlier illustrations were generated and interpreted. In statistical approaches, horizontal and vertical absolute and relative geolocation disparities and frequency distributions of height differences were presented. The results demonstrated that the terrain slope has a great impact on the coherence levels between TDM90 and compared GDEMs. Overall, TDM90 is more coherent with SRTM90 against ASTER90 except clear dissimilarity problems in strip border lines. [Termes IGN] seuillage de pointsRésumé : (auteur) The existing filtering methods for airborne LiDAR point cloud have low accuracy. An adaptive filtering algorithm is proposed which is improved based on multilevel resolution algorithm. First double index structure of Octree and KDtree is established. Then the initial reference surface is constructed by ground seed points. According to the slope fluctuation situation, the grid resolution of the ground referential surface is adjusted in an adaptive way. Finally, the refined surface is formed gradually by multilevel renewing resolution to provide filtered point cloud with high accuracy. Experimental results show that the error of Type II can be effectively reduced, the average Kappa coefficient increases by 0.53% and the average total error decreases by 0.44% compared with multiresolution hierarchical classification algorithm. The result tested by practically measured data shows that Kappa coefficient can reach 90%. Especially, it maintains advantages of high accuracy under complex topographic environment. [Termes IGN] Terre-Neuve, île de (Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador)Résumé : (auteur) The scale dependence of benthic terrain attributes is well-accepted, and multi-scale methods are increasingly applied for benthic habitat mapping. There are, however, multiple ways to calculate terrain attributes at multiple scales, and the suitability of these approaches depends on the purpose of the analysis and data characteristics. There are currently few guidelines establishing the appropriateness of multi-scale raster calculation approaches for specific benthic habitat mapping applications. First, we identify three common purposes for calculating terrain attributes at multiple scales for benthic habitat mapping: (i) characterizing scale-specific terrain features, (ii) reducing data artefacts and errors, and (iii) reducing the mischaracterization of ground-truth data due to inaccurate sample positioning. We then define criteria that calculation approaches should fulfill to address these purposes. At two study sites, five raster terrain attributes, including measures of orientation, relative position, terrain variability, slope, and rugosity were calculated at multiple scales using four approaches to compare the suitability of the approaches for these three purposes. Results suggested that specific calculation approaches were better suited to certain tasks. A transferable parameter, termed the ‘analysis distance’, was necessary to compare attributes calculated using different approaches, and we emphasize the utility of such a parameter for facilitating the generalized comparison of terrain attributes across methods, sites, and scales. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) Urban lidar data are advantageous for capturing the terrain surface of built-up areas, which can be directly used to provide digital surface models. Cloud points are classified into ground points to obtain digital terrain models. This study proposes a method to improve the progressive triangulated irregular network (TIN ) densification method using a TIN connection analysis algorithm, namely, connection analysis via slope analysis. The proposed method comprises five steps: selection of seed points, connection and slope analysis, increasing the seed points, construction of the TIN model of the seed points, and an iterative construction of the final TIN. Seven data sets from the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Working Group are used to test whether the proposed method can preserve discontinuities of landscapes and reduce omission and total errors by an average of 9% and 5%, respectively; achieving such results can reduce the amount of workload required for result modification during posttreatment, thus decreasing costs.
