[Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) This research examines how people subjectively perceive the disclosure risk of a map using original data collected in an online survey with 856 participants. The results indicate that perceived disclosure risk increases as the amount of locational information displayed on a map increases. Compared to point-based maps, perceived disclosure risk is significantly lower for kernel density maps, convex hull maps, and standard deviational ellipse maps. The results also revealed that perceived disclosure risk is affected by map scale and the presence of information of other people on a map. For geomasking methods, perceived disclosure risk decreases as aggregation level increases and as relocation distance increases. However, aggregation methods (point to polygon) are more effective in preventing the re-identification of individuals when compared to relocation methods (point to point). Lastly, the perceived disclosure risk of a map that displays socially-vulnerable people is significantly higher than that of a map that displays non-vulnerable groups. Specifically, a map displaying the private locations of elementary school students has the highest perceived disclosure risk. Based on the results, a set of geoprivacy protection guidelines for mapping people’s private locations to minimize people’s perceived disclosure risk is proposed. Implications for mapping infectious diseases like the COVID-19 are also discussed. [Termes IGN] surface cultivéeRésumé : (Auteur) Leveraging the recent availability of accurate, frequent, and multimodal (radar and optical) Sentinel-1 and -2 acquisitions, this paper investigates the automation of land parcel identification system (LPIS) crop type classification. Our approach allows for the automatic integration of temporal knowledge, i.e., crop rotations using existing parcel-based land cover databases and multi-modal Sentinel-1 and -2 time series. The temporal evolution of crop types was modeled with a linear-chain conditional random field, trained with time series of multimodal (radar and optical) satellite acquisitions and associated LPIS. Our model was tested on two study areas in France (≥ 1250 km2) which show different crop types, various parcel sizes, and agricultural practices: . the Seine et Marne and the Alpes de Haute-Provence classified accordingly to a fine national 25-class nomenclature. We first trained a Random Forest classifier without temporal structure to achieve 89.0% overall accuracy in Seine et Marne (10 classes) and 73% in Alpes de Haute-Provence (14 classes). We then demonstrated experimentally that taking into account the temporal structure of crop rotation with our model resulted in an increase of 3% to +5% in accuracy. This increase was especially important (+12%) for classes which were poorly classified without using the temporal structure. A stark positive impact was also demonstrated on permanent crops, while it was fairly limited or even detrimental for annual crops. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) Recent technical advances in remote sensing data capture and spatial resolution lead to a widening gap between increasing data availability on the one hand and insufficient methodology for semi-automated image data processing and interpretation on the other hand. At the interface of GIS and remote sensing, object-based image analysis methodologies are one possible approach to close this gap. With this, methods from either side are integrated to use both the capabilities of information extraction from image data and the power to perform spatial analysis on derived polygon data. However, dealing with image objects from various sources and in different scales implies combining data with inconsistent boundaries. A landscape interpretation support tool (LIST) is introduced which seeks to investigate and quantify spatial relationships among image objects stemming from different sources by using the concept of spatial coincidence. Moreover, considering different categories of object fate, LIST enables a change categorization for each polygon of a time series of classifications. The application of LIST is illustrated by two case-studies, using Landsat TM and ETM as well as CIR aerial photographs: the first showing how the tool is used to perform object quantification and change analysis; the latter demonstrating how superior aggregation capabilities of the human brain can be combined with the fine spatial segmentation and classification. Possible fields of application are identified and limitations of the approach are discussed. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The manual delineation of vegetation patches or forest stands is a costly and crucial stage in any land-cover mapping project or forest inventory based upon photointerpretation. Recent computer techniques have eased the task of the interpreter; however, a good deal of craftsmanship is still required in the delineation. In an effort to contribute to the automation of this process, we introduce Size-Constrained Region Merging (SCRM), a recently implemented software tool that provides the interpreter with an initial template of the to be mapped area that may reduce the manual digitization portion of the interpretation. In essence, SCRM transforms an ortho-rectified aerial or satellite image (single or multichannel) into a polygon vector layer that resembles the work of a human interpreter, whom with no a priori knowledge of the scene, was given the task of partitioning the image into a number of homogeneous polygons all exceeding a minimum size. We provide background information on SCRM foundations and workflow, and illustrate its application on three different types of satellite images.
