[Termes IGN] téléphonie mobileRésumé : (Auteur) This article describes research carried out in the area of mobile spatial interaction (MSI) and the development of a 3D mobile version of a 2D web-based directional query processor. The TellMe application integrates location (from GPS, GSM, WiFi) and orientation (from magnetometer/accelerometer) sensor technologies into an enhanced spatial query processing module capable of exploiting a mobile device's position and orientation for querying real-world spatial datasets. This article outlines our technique for combining these technologies and the architecture needed to deploy them on a sensor enabled smartphone (i.e. Nokia Navigator 6210). With all these sensor technologies now available on off-the-shelf devices, it is possible to employ a mobile query system that can work effectively in any environment using location and orientation as primary parameters for directional queries. Novel approaches for determining a user's visible query space in three dimensions based on their line-of-sight (ego-visibility) are investigated to provide for “hidden query removal” functionality. This article presents demonstrable results of a mobile application that is location, direction, and orientation aware, and that retrieves database objects and attributes (e.g. buildings, points-of-interest, etc.) by simply pointing, or “looking”, at them with a mobile phone. [Termes IGN] surveillance informatiqueRésumé : (Editeur) Geospatial content and service providers frequently need to control who is accessing their content. Such control may be necessary to ensure profits, or to respect agreements with other providers in the value chain, or to respect privacy rights, or to reduce risks to information, lives, real property or national security, or perhaps for other reasons. This article looks at the role of standards in securing geospatial information. [Termes IGN] visibilitéRésumé : (Auteur) GPS receivers, digital compasses (magnetometers) and tilt sensors (accelerometers) are increasingly implemented in state-of-the-art smartphones such as the iPhone and various Android phones. The resulting data on location, azimuth, and declination angles, together with images from inbuilt cameras, enable creation of a photorealistic and geometricaly accurate city model. In turn, the newly created 3D scene can be queried wirelessly while moving through an urban environment. The authors developped a prototype - Three dimensional Query (3DQ) - which tailors 3D visibility analysis to mobile devices based on a military-style threat dome computation. [Termes IGN] transmission de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Advances in personal positioning, Web mapping, cellular communications and wiki technologies have surpassed the original visions of the architects of mapping and spatial data infrastructure programs around the world. Using GPS-enabled cellphones and personal navigation systems, people can and do share location information describing points of interest, places visited, recent construction and corrections to out-of-date feature attributes. By tapping the distributed knowledge, personal time and energy of volunteer contributors, geographic information (GI) voluntarism has the potential to relocate and redistribute selected GI productive activities from mapping agencies to networks of non-state volunteer actors. However, if we are to design strategies and systems to maximize its advantages and minimize the risks to authoritative mapping programs, we must have a clear understanding of the people and technologies involved. This paper describes a program of research led by the author which examines the risks and opportunities created by the emergence of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) as a viable means of updating and enriching authoritative geographic information databases maintained by public and private sector providers. After briefly summarizing early research into the nature and motivation of contributors, the author describes early empirical accuracy testing results and important questions to be posed by authoritative data providers when considering VGI as a source of data updates.
