[Termes IGN] Time-geographyRésumé : (auteur) Transportation networks negatively impact wildlife populations by limiting the physical movement of the individual animal. In extreme cases road presence can lead to collisions between vehicles and animals, resulting in direct mortality if an animal attempts to cross the road. Crossing structures are one commonly used method for reducing wildlife–vehicle collisions. However, limited funding often reduces the amount of structures that may be constructed in practice. Therefore, areas that have the highest probability for animal interactions with roads should be targeted for locating new structures to provide the best possible outcome. This research uses a probabilistic time-geographic strategy coupled with a site selection phase handled by a classical optimization model to site wildlife crossing structures. To achieve optimal site selection, crossing locations are first identified where wildlife frequently cross roads, and then a maximum covering location problem is applied to these areas as demand nodes. The objective is to cover the largest area having the highest probability of interaction given a finite number of crossing structures available to be located. Coverage is defined in terms of fencing distance associated with a particular structure. The approach was demonstrated using Florida panther telemetry data identifying potential crossing structures across two counties in south Florida. The maximal covering location problem (MCLP) was solved for four coverage distances using radio telemetry tracking data, which captured frequent contact with roads. The results identify that the most effective coverage distance is 2000 m, which incrementally covers more total animal–road interaction probability than that of lower fencing distances in the case of the Florida panther. The results illustrate how this new time-geographic approach, combined with location modeling, measures animal–road interactions probabilistically for finding the optimum placement of wildlife crossing structures. [Termes IGN] température au solRésumé : (auteur) This study presents a Single Channel Method using Urban Exitance Model (UEM-SCM) to retrieve land surface temperature (LST) from satellite data in an urbanized city, and evaluates the geometry effect on land surface temperature retrieval using single channel method and split-window algorithm. The UEM-SCM incorporates the effect of urban geometry and considers both reflection caused by the target pixel and its neighboring pixels. In order to evaluate the geometry effect, the retrieved LSTs with and without geometry effect were studied. Results show that the LSTs without geometry effect are generally higher than the LSTs with geometry effect. The temperature difference occurs because the material emissivity is always lower than the effective emissivity caused by multiple scattering and reflection in urban areas (cavity effect). The LST without geometry effect also cannot fully capture the variability and complexity of urban thermal patterns. The temperature difference between with and without the geometry effect can reach 2 K in built-up areas. A comparison was also conducted between LST retrieved by split-window algorithm with and without geometry effect. Results show that the LST retrieved by split-window algorithm without geometry effect has generally higher values than the one with the geometry effect, e.g. 1.1 K on average and 1.5–2 K in built-up areas. The geometry effect will be removed and mis-deemed as atmospheric effect when the split-window algorithm without geometry effect is applied in urban areas. The split-window algorithm with the geometry effect can be used to distinguish between geometry and atmospheric effect in further study. However, change detection using MLS data of street environment has seldom been studied. In this paper, an approach that combines occupancy grids and a distance-based method for change detection from MLS point clouds is proposed. Unlike conventional occupancy grids, our occupancy-based method models space based on scanning rays and local point distributions in 3D without voxelization. A local cylindrical reference frame is presented for the interpolation of occupancy between rays according to the scanning geometry. The Dempster–Shafer theory (DST) is utilized for both intra-data evidence fusion and inter-data consistency assessment. Occupancy of reference point cloud is fused at the location of target points and then the consistency is evaluated directly on the points. A point-to-triangle (PTT) distance-based method is combined to improve the occupancy-based method. Because it is robust to penetrable objects, e.g. vegetation, which cause self-conflicts when modelling occupancy. The combined method tackles irregular point density and occlusion problems, also eliminates false detections on penetrable objects. [Termes IGN] routeRésumé : (auteur) This paper proposes a pipeline to produce road orthophoto and DTM from Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS). For the ortho, modern laser scanners provide a reflectance information allowing for high quality grayscale images, at a much finer resolution than aerial photography can offer. For DTM, MLS offers a much higher accuracy and density than aerial products. This increased precision and resolution leverages new applications for both ortho and DEM. The first task is to filter ground vs non ground, then an interpolation is conducted to build image tiles from the filtered points. Finally, multiple layers are registered and blended to allow for seamless fusion. Our proposed approach achieves high quality products and scaling up is demonstrated.
