[Termes IGN] sismicitéRésumé : (auteur) Small transient stress perturbations are prone to trigger (micro)seismicity. In the Earth's crust, these stress perturbations can be caused by various sources such as the passage of seismic waves, forcing by tides, or hydrological seasonal loads. A better understanding of the dynamic of earthquake triggering by stress perturbations is essential to improve our understanding of earthquake physics and our consideration of seismic hazard. Here, we study an experimental sandstone-gouge-filled fault system undergoing combined far field loading and periodic stress perturbations (of variable amplitude and frequency) at crustal pressure conditions. Microseismicity—in the form of acoustic emissions (AEs)—strains, and stresses, are continuously recorded in order to study the response of microseismicity as a function of loading rate, amplitude, and frequency of a periodic stress perturbation. The observed AE distributions do not follow the predictions of either a Coulomb failure model, taking into account both constant loading and oscillation-induced strain rates, or a rate and state model. A susceptibility of the system's AE response to the amplitude of the confinement pressure perturbation is estimated, which highlights a linear relation between confinement pressure amplitude and the AE response amplitude, observations which agree with recent higher frequency experimental results on dynamic triggering. The magnitude-frequency distribution of AEs is also computed. The Gutenberg-Richter b-value oscillates with stress oscillations. Our experiments may help complement our understanding of the influence of low inertia stress phenomena on the distribution of seismicity, such as observations of dynamic triggering and seismicity modulation by tides or hydrological loading. [Termes IGN] sismicitéRésumé : (auteur) Recently, all kinds of geological disasters happen frequently on the earth. In China, there are countless earthquakes every year, which greatly affect the country’s economic level and development as well as the people’s life and health. The analysis of seismic activity is becoming more and more significant. In this article, the spatial distribution of China’s seismic activities was analyzed by using the provincial seismic data from 1970 to 2013. On the basis of spatial autocorrelation analysis theory, Global Moran’s I, Local Moran’s I, and the Local Indicators of Spatial Association are used to measure the geospatial distribution characteristics of China’s seismic activities. The research results show that earthquakes in mainland China have significant global autocorrelation characteristics as a whole, and the global autocorrelation coefficients are all positive. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) The Himalayan terrain is an epitome of ongoing convergence and geodetic deformation where both tectonic and non-tectonic forces prevail. In this study, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and Global Positioning System (GPS) datasets are used to assess the impact of seasonal loading on deformation with seismicity in Nepal. The recorded GPS data from 21 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations during 2017–2020 are processed with respect to ITRF14 and the Indian reference frame, and the Center for Space Research (CSR) mascon RL06 during 2002–2020 is adopted to estimate the terrestrial water storage (TWS) change over the Ganga-Brahmaputra River basin. The results indicate that the hydrological loading effect or TWS change shows high negative, high positive, and moderately positive values in pre-monsoon, co-monsoon, and post-monsoon months, respectively. The detrended GPS data of both horizontal and vertical components correlate with the seasonal TWS change using the Pearson correlation coefficient at each GNSS site. In addition, the correlation coefficient has been interpolated using inverse distance weighting to investigate the regional TWS influence on geodetic displacement. In the north component, the correlation coefficient ranges from −0.6 to 0.6. At the same time, the TWS is positively correlated with geodetic displacement (0.82) in the east component, and the correlation coefficient is negative (−0.69) in the vertical component. The negative correlation signifies an inverse relationship between seasonal TWS variation and geodetic displacements. The strain rate is estimated, which shows higher negative values in pre-monsoon than in post-monsoon. Similarly, the effect of seismicity is 47.90% for pre-monsoon, 15.97% for co-monsoon, and 17.56% for post-monsoon. Thus we can infer that the seismicity decreases with the increase of seasonal hydrological loading. Furthermore, the effect of strain is much higher in pre-monsoon than in post-monsoon since the impact of co-monsoon continues to persist on a small scale in the post-monsoon season. [Termes IGN] Tohoku (Japon)Résumé : (auteur) We conduct a global analysis of GRACE-reconstructed gravity gradients from July 2004 to February 2011, to test whether the deep signals preceding the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake can be detected before the event as a specific feature originating from solid Earth. First, we improve the angular resolution of the gravity gradients using two overlapping ranges of azimuthal sensitivity to investigate short-term signals of large amplitude aligned with the orientation of the Northwestern Pacific subduction. Then, we set-up a method to identify consistent solid Earth signals shared by different GRACE gravity models. Robust signals in a model are selected based on their spatial overlap and relative intensity with the signals of another model, so that their sensitivity to the GRACE data processing and ocean dealiasing product can be tested. We show that the dipolar gravity gradient anomaly before the Tohoku earthquake is nearly unique in space and time in the GRACE GRGS03 solutions. A well-resolved dipolar spatial pattern, typical of dislocations within the solid Earth and poorly sensitive to the ocean dealiasing model, is detected. In addition, the preseismic gravity gradient increase is highly consistent between the GRGS03 and CSR06 solutions, independently from their respective oceanic corrections, and can be clearly distinguished from rare anomalies of similar amplitudes all associated with the water cycle over continental areas. Our approach offers solutions for the continuous monitoring of the Pacific subduction belt to document transient slabs motions in real time from global satellite gravity fields, and their relation with shallower deformations and seismic events. [Termes IGN] sismicitéRésumé : (auteur) The Landslide happens in mountainous regions due to the catastrophe of slope through intensive rain and seismicity. The Himalayas is one of the susceptible parts of the world in the perspective of slope catastrophe hazard; i.e., Mass Movement, especially Neelum valley is considerable destruction of community infrastructure, highway, and critically disturbed the tourism segment. Landslide is a common and recurrent phenomenon in the northern mountainous terrain of Pakistan such as District Neelum. After the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, the importance of landslide investigation is increasing. The purpose of this research is to establish a brief landslide inventory and to determine the relationship of landslides with causative factors by spatial distribution analysis. With the aid of Google Earth imageries and field visits, a total of 618 landslides were identified in the study area of 3621 km. These landslide localities compared with causative factors. Finally, distribution maps are generated and analyse their feature class through Digital Elevation Model and ArcGIS. Landslide intensity is calculated in terms of landslide concentration. Landslide concentration (LC) is significantly found very high in slope gradient less than 30 (1.21) and the first 100 m zone around the road network (15.06). A bit higher landslide frequency is noted in east orienting slopes. In the first 100 m, zone road network and drainage networks are 83.49% and 62.78% of the total landslide occurs having LC value 4.6, respectively. The analysis shows that the steep slopes, an area closer to the road network, drainage network, barren lands, and Quaternary alluvium of loose material are more susceptible to landslides. In addition, a landslide classification map is also prepared on the basis of field observation that shows that debris slides are more dominating.
