[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry to monitor long-term millimeter-level deformation of urban infrastructures, such as individual buildings and bridges, is an emerging and important field in remote sensing. In the state-of-the-art methods, deformation parameters are retrieved and monitored on a pixel basis solely in the SAR image domain. However, the inevitable side-looking imaging geometry of SAR results in undesired occlusion and layover in urban area, rendering the current method less competent for a semantic-level monitoring of different urban infrastructures. This paper presents a framework of a semantic-level deformation monitoring by linking the precise deformation estimates of SAR interferometry and the semantic classification labels of optical images via a 3-D geometric fusion and semantic texturing. The proposed approach provides the first “SARptical” point cloud of an urban area, which is the SAR tomography point cloud textured with attributes from optical images. This opens a new perspective of InSAR deformation monitoring. Interesting examples on bridge and railway monitoring are demonstrated. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The effective and automated parsing of building facades from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) point clouds of urban environments is an important research topic in the GIS and remote sensing fields. It is also challenging because of the complexity and great variety of the available 3D building facade layouts as well as the noise and data missing of the input TLS point clouds. In this paper, we introduce a novel methodology for the accurate and computationally efficient parsing of urban building facades from TLS point clouds. The main novelty of the proposed methodology is that it is a systematic and hierarchical approach that considers, in an adaptive way, the semantic and underlying structures of the urban facades for segmentation and subsequent accurate modeling. Firstly, the available input point cloud is decomposed into depth planes based on a data-driven method; such layer decomposition enables similarity detection in each depth plane layer. Secondly, the labeling of the facade elements is performed using the SVM classifier in combination with our proposed BieS-ScSPM algorithm. The labeling outcome is then augmented with weak architectural knowledge. Thirdly, least-squares fitted normalized gray accumulative curves are applied to detect regular structures, and a binarization dilation extraction algorithm is used to partition facade elements. A dynamic line-by-line division is further applied to extract the boundaries of the elements. The 3D geometrical façade models are then reconstructed by optimizing facade elements across depth plane layers. We have evaluated the performance of the proposed method using several TLS facade datasets. Qualitative and quantitative performance comparisons with several other state-of-the-art methods dealing with the same facade parsing problem have demonstrated its superiority in performance and its effectiveness in improving segmentation accuracy. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) In urban areas, material maps, i.e. knowledge concerning the roofing materials or the different kinds of ground areas, are necessary for several city modeling or monitoring applications. Airborne remote sensing techniques appear to be convenient for providing them at a large scale but require an enhanced imagery spectral resolution. A superspectral sensor with a limited number of bands dedicated to urban materials classification could be a solution. Within this context, this study focused on the optimization of this band subset from hyperspectral data, considering both the position of the bands and their width. The used approach first builds a hierarchy of groups of adjacent bands, according to a relevance criterion to decide which adjacent bands must be merged. Then, band selection is performed at the different levels of this hierarchy. Several band configurations are thus explored within this hierarchy. This method was applied to a data set consisting of spectra generated from reflectance spectral signatures of 9 common urban materials collected from 7 spectral libraries. At the end, the potential of a superspectral sensor with wider bands was confirmed. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Geovisualization applications that allow the navigation between maps at different scales while zooming in and out often provide no smooth transition between the individual building level of abstraction and the representation of whole urban areas as polygons. In order to reduce the cognitive load of the user, we seek to add intermediate zoom levels with intermediate and progressive abstractions between buildings and urban areas. This paper proposes a method based on progressive block graying while enhancing building landmarks, to derive these intermediate representations from the individual buildings. Block graying is based on an automatic building classification, and a multiple criteria decision technique to infer inner city blocks. The landmarks identification relies on machine learning and several criteria based on geometry and spatial relations. The method is tested with real cartographic data between the 1:25k (with individual buildings) and the 1:100k scale (with urban areas): transitions with one, two, or three intermediate representations are derived and tested.
