[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Small‐area patch merging is a common operation in land use data generalization. However, existing research on small‐area patch merging has mainly focused on local compatibility measures, which often lead to area imbalances among land use types from a global perspective. To address the shortcomings of previous studies by resolving local and global concerns simultaneously, this article proposes a merging method that considers both local constraints and the overall area balance. First, a local optimization model that considers three constraints—namely, the areas of neighboring patches, the lengths of shared arcs, and semantic similarity—is established. The areas of small patches are first pre‐allocated. Subsequently, in accordance with an area change threshold for individual land use types, land use types with area changes that exceed this threshold are identified. The patches corresponding to these land use types are subjected to iterative adjustments while considering the overall area balance. Based on their area splitting abilities, the split lines for small‐area patches are determined, and small‐area patches are merged. Finally, actual data from Guangdong Province are used for validation. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is capable of preserving the local compatibility of patches while balancing the overall area associated with each land use type. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Among approaches for automated generalization of vector data, we focus on the multi-agent paradigm: cartographic objects are modeled as agents (autonomous objects) that apply generalization algorithms to themselves to satisfy cartographic constraints. Several agent levels are considered, for example, individual agents, such as a building, and agents representing a group of agents, such as an urban block composed of the surrounding roads and contained buildings. Several multi-agent models were proposed to automate the orchestration of map generalization processes. Existing multi-agent generalization models have different approaches to manage the relations between agent levels. In this paper, we unify existing models, adapting a multi-level simulation model, to simplify interactions between agents in different levels. We propose the DIOGEN model, in which the principle of interactions between agents of different levels is adapted to constraint-driven cartographic generalization. DIOGEN unifies three existing multi-agent generalization models (AGENT, CartACom and GAEL), combine their behaviors and take advantage of their skills. Our proposal is evaluated on different use cases: instances of topographic mapping, and mapping of hiking routes over topographic data as an example of thematic mapping. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (auteur) The aim of mining spatial co-location patterns is to find the corresponding subsets of spatial features that have strong spatial correlation in the real world. This is an important technology for the extraction and comprehension of implicit knowledge in large spatial databases. However, existing methods of co-location mining consider events as taking place in a homogeneous and isotropic context in Euclidean space, whereas the physical movement in an urban space is usually constrained by a road network. Furthermore, previous works do not take the ‘distance decay effect’ of spatial interactions into account, which may reduce the effectiveness of the result. Here we propose an improved spatial co-location pattern mining method, including the network-constrained neighborhood and addition of a distance-decay function, to find the spatial dependence between network phenomena (e.g. urban facilities). The underlying idea is to utilize a model function in the interest measure calculation to weight the contribution of a co-location to the overall interest measure instance inversely proportional to the separation distance. Our approach was evaluated through extensive experiments using facility points-of-interest data sets. The results show that the network-constrained approach is a more effective method than the traditional one in network-structured space. The proposed approach can also be applied to other human activities (e.g. traffic accidents) constrained by a street network. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Spatial conflicts may occur when map data are displayed at a scale smaller than that of the source map. This study applies the displacement operator in cartographic generalization to resolve such spatial conflicts and to improve the clarity and legibility of map. The immune genetic algorithm (IGA) is used in this study for buildings displacement to solve conflicts. IGA is based on the genetic algorithm (GA) and employs the self-adjusting mechanism of antibody concentration to enhance population diversity. Meanwhile, the elitism retention strategy is adopted in IGA to guarantee that the best individual (antibody) is not lost and destroyed in the next generation to strengthen convergence efficiency. The compared experiment between IGA and GA shows that the displacement result produced by IGA performs better than GA. Finally, in order to make the displaced map more attractive to cartographers, two constraints – the building alignment constraint and building tangent relation constraint – are applied in IGA to restrict the buildings’ displacement. The same experimental data are adopted to prove that the improved IGA is useful for maintaining the two constraints. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Building patterns exhibited collectively by a group of buildings are fundamental to understanding urban forms, classifying urban scenes, analyzing urban landscapes, and generalizing maps. The existing studies have used geometric homogeneity or regularity to represent and discover limited patterns for map generalization, or used interval and rectangle algebra to represent relations between spatial objects. These approaches, however, cannot illustrate how patterns are produced by using syntax or grammar (i.e. relations between buildings) to link words (i.e. buildings) into sentences (i.e. building patterns), making it impossible to represent and discover building patterns with diverse structures. This study presents a relation-based approach to formalize and discover arbitrary building patterns at three abstract levels. At the bottom level, a relative and local frame of reference is defined, and 169 basic relations are derived to represent relative positions between buildings. At the middle level, the 169 relations, qualitative angle description, and qualitative size are combined to formalize important semantic relations between two buildings, which include collinear, perpendicular, and parallel relations. At the top level, the relations at the bottom and middle levels are used to formalize three types of building patterns, including collinear patterns, the structured patterns with acceptable names, and other patterns of interest. Algorithms implementing the three levels of relations are presented and applied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in discovering building patterns from databases and querying building patterns. The results indicate that the relational approach is generic to effectively represent and discover building patterns with arbitrary structures. In addition, it complements the existing geometric methods for recognizing building patterns, and the interval and rectangle algebra for representing building relations.
