[Termes IGN] signalisation routièreRésumé : (auteur) A method for accurate 3D reconstruction of road features from multiple calibrated aerial images of urban areas is proposed in this paper. We here focus on road-marks and in particular on zebra-crossings and discontinuous road-marks separating circulation lanes. The approaches used here are generic and based on a-priori external knowledge and thus constrain the extraction of image features. As we will explain, two strategies are adopted depending on the object size. For zebra-crossings, we first build 3D segments representing stripes’ borders by 2D segments matching. For discontinuous lanes, we build a graph describing the network in each image and then match nodes in order to obtain 3D position of stripes’ centers. This provides in both cases an initial solution in 3D space. Using geometric and radiometric modeling to obtain a set of plausible models, e then look for an optimal solution. The last step yields us to choose the best one in adequacy with images data. A correlation based energy and template matching strategy achieve this in a hierarchical frame. The algorithm is finally evaluated with ground control points surveyed with a millimetric precision. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) A stereo matching algorithm dedicated to complex urban scenes is described. It relies on successive complementary matching steps, based on dynamic programming. First, intensity edges of both images are matched, which produces piecewise continuous 3D chains. This provides a description of the scene structure containing the highest elevation of most height discontinuities. Then the interval pairs defined by the matched edges are matched in a hierarchical way, by a radiometrically constrained process followed by a geometrically constrained one.The novelty of the approach lies in the use of several successive steps appropriate to different kinds of pixels. It provides dense disparity maps with less noise, while preserving discontinuities, which are a characteristic of urban digital elevation models. The method has proved reliable (producing few noisy and altimetrically accurate 3D data) and fast, and is robust to image variability. Perspectives within an industrial production context are discussed. [Termes IGN] image aérienneRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents the research that has been lead for a few years at IGN on automatic building extraction from aerial photographs. A description of the operational context and of the topographic application that is aimed at introduces the main constraints to be overcome. We give then a quick sketch of the building extraction process that has been worked out up to now, and develop its quality assessment on a test site. The analysis of the results underlines the part played by the planar approximation of disparities resulting of an area-based correlation process in the fulfilment of the accuracy requirements. Further research will focus on reliability improvement and on more complex shape handling. [Termes IGN] stéréoscopieRésumé : (auteur) We present an approach for the detection of building in aerial images using binocular and monocular information. A cooperative method is developed in which both stereo matching and perceptual grouping techniques are used to ensure a reliable detection of building structures in a contour map. Indeed, when one uses geometric grouping alone, one has to resolve a hard combinatorial search problem. So, we propose to use the disparity map obtained by stereo matching to filter irrelevant contours. This approach allows us to reduce the search space for the geometric grouping process, which uses the remaining contours to detect buildings according to the principle of perceptual organization. In this work, we only consider the class of buildings which can be modeled as a combination of rectangular structures. The detected buildings are then fed back to the stereo process to generate a new disparity map in which building forms are better preserved. In our stereo matching algorithm, we use a dynamic programming technique to estimate the disparity at each point before computing it using both parametric and non-parametric correlation. This strategy allows us to speed up the correlation process and reduce the risk of false matching.
