[Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (auteur) Discontinuity extraction and interpretation of fractured masses is of high importance when analyzing rock slope stability. Regarding high-steep slopes, which are areas that are difficult to reach, traditional methods to obtain discontinuities, such as the sample window method (SWM), are unlikely to be implemented, resulting in challenges for the identification of potential rockfalls. With the development of the unmanned ariel vehicle (UAV) technology, discontinuity extraction can overcome by noncontact photogrammetry. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive and practical solutions to fulfill rockfall identification from field investigation to in-door analysis. For this purpose, a practical case study was carried out in Wanzhou, Chongqing, China, where a 400 m vertical rock slope prone to rockfall was collected as a typical example. The centimeter-level 3D Textured Digital Outcrop Model (TDOM) and dense Point Cloud (PC) were established using high-resolution photos acquired by nap-of-the-object photogrammetry. The discontinuity of the fractured mass was interpreted by fully taking advantage of both 2D images (texture information-dominated) and 3D PCs (depth information-dominated). Furthermore, a new parameter rock cavity rate (RCR) and the corresponding semiautomatic extraction method based on point clouds are proposed. Subsequently, the possibility of various failure modes and their joint combinations were determined by kinematic analysis. Finally, the rock slope stability was determined using a matrix that considers the slope mass rating (SMR) value and the parameter RCR. The proposed process flow and relevant techniques in this study provide an operable and practical solution for further application regarding discontinuity interpretation and potential rockfall identification on high-steep slopes. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Staring spotlight images with a spatial resolution of up to tens of centimeters are good data sources for urban applications including displacement mapping. However, phase discontinuities, layover, and shadowing effect are also associated with staring spotlight interferograms, adding to the difficulties in height estimation and spatial phase unwrapping. The scattering mechanism of the staring spotlight images in the urban environment is complicated, thus it is difficult to simulate and remove the reference height of staring spotlight interferograms directly. In addition, global spatial phase unwrapping networks tend to smooth phase discontinuities. With the aim of implementing height estimation and phase unwrapping for TerraSAR-X Staring Spotlight interferograms, a workflow for phase unmixing of TerraSAR-X staring spotlight interferograms is proposed in this paper. The PS height is estimated in the baseline domain rather than the spatial domain. Taking into account the length and height change of each connection, the spatial phase unwrapping network is adjusted and segmented into isolated networks. The connected components of the adjusted spatial phase unwrapping network can be identified using graph theory. Spatial phase unwrapping is implemented in individual networks. The unfolded height phase is separated from the unwrapped phase, and the remaining phase is deformation dominated. Compared with the traditional global spatial phase unwrapping method, this study demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed least squares parameter search and graph partition based workflow in urban area, for phase unmixing of TerraSAR-X staring spotlight interferograms in building scale for PS height and deformation, as evidenced by external LiDAR DSM and temperature records. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (auteur) Building pattern recognition is fundamental to a wide range of downstream applications, such as urban landscape evaluation, social analyses, and map generalization. Although many studies have been conducted, there is still a lack of satisfactory results, due to the imprecision of the relative direction model of any two adjacent buildings and the ineffective extraction methods. This study aims to provide an alternative for quantifying the direction and the spatial continuity of any two buildings on the basis of the Delaunay triangulation for the recognition of linear building patterns. First, constrained Delaunay triangulations (CDTs) are created for all buildings within each block and every two adjacent buildings. Then, the spatial continuity index (SCI), the direction index (DI), and other spatial relations (e.g., distance) of every two adjacent buildings are derived using the CDT. Finally, the building block is modelled as a graph based on derived matrices, and a graph segmentation approach is proposed to extract linear building patterns. In the segmentation process, the edges of the graph are removed first, according to the global thresholds of the SCI and distance, and are subsequently subdivided into subgraphs on direction rules. The proposed method is tested using three datasets. The experimental results suggest that the proposed method can recognize both collinear and curvilinear building patterns, given that the correctness values are all above 92% for the three study areas. The results also demonstrate that the novel SCI can effectively filter many insignificant neighbor relationships in the graph segmentation process. It is noteworthy that the proposed DI is capable of measuring building relative directions accurately and works efficiently in linear building pattern extraction. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (Auteur) Models of ground surface elevations are crucial to many applications of remotely sensed data, including estimates of the height relative to ground of non-ground objects, such as buildings and vegetation. In highly engineered regions, such as cities, there are many discontinuities in both the ground surface and the surface of non-ground objects. Sub-metre resolution elevation data for these regions are increasingly available. At these resolutions there is sufficient information and a growing need to improve model accuracies by incorporating discontinuities. Here we provide a new method for generating high resolution models of discontinuous ground surfaces from breakline data and digital surface models derived from remotely sensed data. The method uses segment based filtering, outlier removal and multiresolution thin-plate spline surface fitting. Breaklines are included in the fitted surface using partial derivatives and a breakline-aware method for transferring between different resolutions. We demonstrate our method using elevation data derived from photogrammetry for suburban regions of Perth, Western Australia, and Vaihingen, Germany. We produced ground surface models with noticeable qualitative and quantitative improvements when breaklines are included, at an increased computational cost of approximately 10% when all other parameters remained the same. For LiDAR derived elevations, we report our residual error against a number of other methods recorded using the ISPRS Ground Filtering Test Sites. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) The so-called seam line discontinuity is a phenomenon that can be observed in point clouds captured with some panoramic terrestrial laser scanners. It is an angular discontinuity that is most apparent where the lower limit of the instrument’s angular field-of-view intersects the ground. It appears as step discontinuities at the start (0° horizontal direction) and end (180°) of scanning. To the authors’ best knowledge, its cause and its impact, if any, on point cloud accuracy have not yet been reported. This paper presents the results of a rigorous investigation into several hypothesized causes of this phenomenon: differences between the lower and upper elevation angle scanning limits; the presence of a vertical circle index error; and changes in levelling during scanning. New models for the angular observations have been developed and simulations were performed to independently study the impact of each hypothesized cause and to guide the analyses of real datasets. In order to scrutinize each of the hypothesized causes, experiments were conducted with seven real datasets captured with six different instruments: one hybrid-architecture scanner and five panoramic scanners, one of which was also operated as a hybrid instrument. This study concludes that the difference between the elevation angle scanning limits is the source of the seam line discontinuity phenomenon. Accuracy assessment experiments over real data captured in an indoor test facility demonstrate that the seam line discontinuity has no metric impact on the point clouds.
