[Termes IGN] viticultureRésumé : (auteur) For successful dosing of plant protection products, the characteristics of the vine canopies should be known, based on which the spray amount should be dosed. In the field experiment, we compared two optical experimental methods, terrestrial lidar and aerial photogrammetry, with manual defoliation of some selected vines. Like those of other authors, our results show that both terrestrial lidar and aerial photogrammetry were able to represent the canopy well with correlation coefficients around 0.9 between the measured variables and the number of leaves. We found that in the case of aerial photogrammetry, significantly more points were found in the point cloud, but this depended on the choice of the ground sampling distance. Our results show that in the case of aerial UAS photogrammetry, subdividing the vine canopy segments to 5 × 5 cm gives the best representation of the volume of vine canopies. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Species Distribution Models (SDM) represent a powerful tool to predict species’ habitat suitability on a landscape and fill the gap between truncated observation data and all possible locations. SDMs have been widely used in theoretical studies of species niches as well as in conservation applications. Here, we evaluated the impacts of predictors’ type on models’ performances and spatial predictions using 72 plant species belonging to six ecological groups at a regional scale in the area of Geneva (Switzerland). Twelve models were created using various combinations of high-resolution (25 m) explanatory variables including topography, pedology, climate, habitats and remote sensing data. Models integrating a combination of habitats and topopedo-climatic predictors had significantly higher performances, while remote sensing predictors showed low performances. Our results suggest that the number and the level of details of habitat predictors (broad or very precise) do not fundamentally affect prediction maps. However, selecting too few, overly simplified or exceedingly complex habitat predictors tend to lower models’ performances. The use of eight habitat categories complemented with eight topopedo-climatic predictors produced models with the highest performances. Ecological groups of species responded differently to models and while alpine and ruderal species have greater average performances due to a high affinity with topopedo-climatic predictors, wetlands’ species were less performant on average. These results underline the necessity of developing or having access to habitats distribution data especially in a conservation context. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial light detection and ranging (lidar) is capable of resolving trees at the branch/leaf level with accurate and dense point clouds. The separation of leaf and wood components is a prerequisite for the estimation of branch/leaf-scale biophysical properties and realistic tree model reconstruction. Most existing methods have been tested on trees with similar structures; their robustness for trees of different species and sizes remains relatively unexplored. This study proposed a new graph-based leaf–wood separation (GBS) method for individual trees purely using the xyz -information of the point cloud. The GBS method fully utilized the shortest path-based features, as the shortest path can effectively reflect the structures for trees of different species and sizes. Ten types of tree data—covering tropical, temperate, and boreal species—with heights ranging from 5.4 to 43.7 m, were used to test the method performance. The mean accuracy and kappa coefficient at the point level were 94% and 0.78, respectively, and our method outperformed two other state-of-the-art methods. Through further analysis and testing, the GBS method exhibited a strong ability for detecting small and leaf-surrounded branches, and was also sufficiently robust in terms of data subsampling. Our research further demonstrated the potential of the shortest path-based features in leaf–wood separation. The entire framework was provided for use as an open-source Python package, along with our labeled validation data. [Termes IGN] réseau antagoniste génératifRésumé : (auteur) Deep learning methods are typically data-hungry and require many labelled samples. Unfortunately, the amount of effort required to label the data has significantly hindered the application of deep learning methods, especially in 3D modelling tasks requiring heterogeneous samples. This paper proposes a semi-supervised adversarial recognition strategy embedded in the inverse procedural modelling engine to reduce data annotation costs for learning to model 3D façades. Beginning with textured level-of-details models, we use convolutional neural networks to recognise the types and estimate the parameters of windows from image patches. The window types and parameters are then assembled into the procedural grammar. A simple procedural engine is built inside off-the-shelf 3D modelling software, producing fine-grained window geometries. To obtain a useful model from a few labelled samples, we leverage a generative adversarial network to train the feature extractor in a semi-supervised manner. The adversarial training strategy exploits the unlabelled data to stabilise the training phase. Experiments using publicly available façade image datasets reveal that the proposed methods can improve classification accuracy and parameter estimation by approximately 10% and 50%, respectively, under the same network structure. In addition, performance gains are more pronounced when testing against unseen data featuring different façade styles. [Termes IGN] processus stochastiqueRésumé : (auteur) Even more than 75 years after the Second World War, numerous unexploded bombs (duds) linger in the ground and pose a considerable hazard to society. The areas containing these duds are documented in so-called impact maps, which are based on locations of exploded bombs; these locations can be found in aerial images taken shortly after bombing. To generate impact maps, in this paper we present a novel approach based on marked point processes (MPPs) for the automatic detection of bomb craters in such images, some of which are overlapping. The object model for the craters is represented by circles and is embedded in the MPP-framework. By means of stochastic sampling, the most likely configuration of objects within the scene is determined. Each configuration is evaluated using an energy function that describes the consistency with a predefined object model. High gradient magnitudes along the object borders and homogeneous grey values inside the objects are favoured, while overlaps between objects are penalized. Reversible Jump Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling, in combination with simulated annealing, provides the global optimum of the energy function. Our procedure allows the combination of individual detection results covering the same location. Afterwards, a probability map for duds is generated from the detections via kernel density estimation and areas around the detections are classified as contaminated, resulting in an impact map. Our results, based on 74 aerial wartime images taken over different areas in Central Europe, show the potential of the method; among other findings, a clear improvement is achieved by using redundant image information. We also compared the MPP method for bomb crater detection with a state-of-of-the-art convolutional neural network (CNN) for generating region proposals; it turned out that the CNN outperforms the MPPs if a sufficient amount of representative training data is available and a threshold for a region to be considered as crater is properly tuned prior to running the experiments. If this is not the case, the MPP approach achieves better results.
