[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The generation of highly detailed 3D city models has significantly matured over the last couple of years. Especially for visualization purposes, these models are needed at several levels of detail (LOD) in fine granular steps that also allow for a smooth transformation from one level to the next to avoid pop-up artifacts. Several methods have been proposed for the automatic generalization of 3D building models that simplify the geometry of given boundary-based models at discrete LODs. In this paper, we present an approach to generate a transformation sequence between two discrete LODs with the purpose to later build a continuous LOD sequence. The method is based on mesh simplification techniques that are extended to a restricted use of edge collapse and vertex move operations applied on triangle meshes augmented by additional breaking lines. The validity of the approach is demonstrated on a case study that is close to reality. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) Assessing the vulnerability and resilience to coastal hazards is a critical worldwide issue, especially for hurricane-prone coastal regions such as the Caribbean. However, the development of a useful metric for vulnerability and resilience assessment has a lot of challenges. Cartography and GIS analysis can contribute effectively to the solution of the issue by integrating natural and human data layers for assessment, mapping, and visualization. This paper uses the new Resilience Inference Measurement (RIM) model to assess the resilience of 25 countries in the Caribbean region to hurricanes. The RIM indices of the countries were computed using three variables representing three dimensions: exposure, damage, and recovery, and eight variables representing social-environmental capacity. The RIM resilience indices were mapped and compared with the vulnerability indices computed in a previous study. The results show that Turks & Caicos Islands had the highest resilience, whereas Montserrat had the lowest. This paper contributes to the hazard literature by demonstrating new vulnerability and resilience assessment methodologies that include validation and enable inference. The paper also contributes to the cartography and GIS literature by demonstrating the need to integrate data and perspectives from multiple disciplines and regions, as well as the ability of geospatial technology, in producing useful decision-making tools for a very pressing societal problem. [Termes IGN] transport publicRésumé : (Auteur) The steady increase in automotive vehicle usage in highly populated areas, leading to intensified traffic, suggests the need for new approaches to traffic management and commuting options. Maps as communication products might hold one key to unlocking guided alternative mode choices as standalone products and as service components. However, traditional paper and web-based maps might lack properties and affordances that will guide users to consider alternative commuting opportunities. Through careful determination of content, use and media, our research group assesses the emotional, visual and tactile properties of map affordances to create novel transportation maps. With future user testing and modification, transportation map alternatives could enable and encourage commuters to explore transportation alternatives and select a mode of transportation that is suitable for the changing landscape in commuting and mass transportation. [Termes IGN] représentation cartographique 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Parametric Modeling simulates the results of urban parameters (variables and their values) in the volumetric landscape of a city. Dynamic cartographic representation permits exploration of the impacts of current conditions defined by law and also of potential changes in these parameters. This study adopted the framework of Geodesign, as a land-use planning strategy, applying descriptive and performance models, through steps of characterization, analysis, evaluation, simulation and decision-making. This paper presents a case study of an important modernist area in Brazil, planned by Oscar Niemeyer. The main tools used were CityEngine and ArcGIS software. The result visualizes the future of urban landscape in Pampulha, considering current urban parameters, and predictive studies about the possible transformations in the area.
