[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a wavelet transformation-based method for fusing high-resolution satellite images. First, a multi-band wavelet fusion method, specifically the four-band wavelet method, is proposed for fusing one-meter panchromatic and four-meter multi-spectral Ikonos images. Second, the fusion experiments are undertaken by using the proposed four-band wavelet method. The results are compared with fused images from other methods, such as two-band wavelet and IHS methods. The results are evaluated based on both visual evaluation and a quantitative analysis, by using several assessing parameters and a new evaluation method: the profile intensity curve. Third, as an application of the fused images, they are applied for recognition and identification of features in urban area. The quantitative analysis demonstrates that four-band wavelet transformation method provides improved fused images. By these new high resolution satellite data, remote sensing technologies can be successfully applied to more application areas such as extracting road network from high resolution satellite images. This paper proposes a newly developed approach to extract a road network from high resolution satellite images. The approach is based on the binary and greyscale mathematical morphology and a line segment match method. First, the outline of road network is detected based on the grey morphological characteristics. Then, the basic road network is detected by the line segment match method. Next, the detected basic road network is processed based on the knowledge about the roads and binary mathematical morphological methods. Finally, visual analysis and three indicators are used to evaluate the accuracy of the extracted road networks. The results of the accuracy evaluation demonstrate that the developed road network extraction approach can provide both good visual effect and high positional accuracy. In this paper, such factors as the error of commission, the error of omission, the discrepant area and the normalized discrepant area are proposed as the error indicators of buffer analysis. Analytical expressions for the error indicators are developed as multiple integrals. A numerical integration method is recommended to find an approximation to the analytical expression. Many fusion methods have been developed based on the twoband wavelet transformation. However, due to the limitations of the transformation characteristics themselves, the twoband wavelet is not very efficient for the fusion of images whose ratio of spatial resolutions is not 2n (n = 1, 2, 3, ...), e.g., for fusing a 101 resolution panchromatic SPOT image and with 30m resolution multispectral TM images. However, a recently developed new wavelet branchmultiband wavelet can potentially be applied to solve this problem. In this paper, we develop a new approach for fusing SPOT P images with multispectral TM images based on multiband wavelet transformation. First, the theoretical basis of multiband wavelet is presented and its transformation properties are analyzed. Second, a new method for fusing a SPOT P image with multispectral images using the multiband wavelet is proposed. Specifically, the threeband wavelet is implemented to fuse 1 10m SPOT panchromatic and 30m multispectral TM images. Third, this new method is compared with previous methods such as the twoband wavelet and IHS methods for image fusion. The proposed multiband wavelet approach demonstrates an improvement in spatial and spectral characteristics for fusing SPOT P and multispectral TM images.
