[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Over the past decades it has been shown that remotely sensed auxiliary data have a potential to increase the precision of key estimators in sample-based forest surveys. This thesis was motivated by the increasing availability of remotely sensed data, and the objectives were to investigate how this type of auxiliary data can be used for improving both the design and the estimators in sample-based surveys. Two different modes of inference were studied: model-based inference and design-based inference. Empirical data for the studies were acquired from a boreal forest area in the Kuortane region of western Finland. The data comprised a combination of auxiliary information derived from airborne LiDAR and Landsat data, and field sample plot data collected using a modification of the 10th Finnish National Forest Inventory. The studied forest attribute was growing stock volume.
The results of this thesis are important for the development of forest inventories to meet the requirements which stem from an increasing number of international commitments and agreements related to forests.Numéro de notice : 14978 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET Nature : Thèse étrangère Note de thèse : PhD : Forest sciences : University of Helsinki : 2015 En ligne : Over the past decades it has been shown that remotely sensed auxiliary data have [...] Format de la ressource électronique : URL Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=78366 PTrees: A point-based approach to forest tree extraction from lidar data / Cédric Vega in International journal of applied Earth observation and geoinformation, vol 33 (December 2014)

[Termes IGN] traitement de données localiséesRésumé : (auteur) This paper introduces PTrees, a multi-scale dynamic point cloud segmentation dedicated to forest tree extraction from lidar point clouds. The method process the point data using the raw elevation values (Z) and compute height (H = Z − ground elevation) during post-processing using an innovative procedure allowing to preserve the geometry of crown points. Multiple segmentations are done at different scales. Segmentation criteria are then applied to dynamically select the best set of apices from the tree segments extracted at the various scales. The selected set of apices is then used to generate a final segmentation. PTrees has been tested in 3 different forest types, allowing to detect 82% of the trees with under 10% of false detection rate. Future development will integrate crown profile estimation during the segmentation process in order to both maximize the detection of suppressed trees and minimize false detections. [Termes IGN] image PROBA-CHRISRésumé : (Auteur) Numerous normalized difference spectral indices (NDSIs) derived from leaf measurements and CHRIS/PROBA hyperspectral and multi-angular satellite images were examined for their capacity to track seasonal variations of leaf (εleaf) and canopy (εcan) light use efficiency of a Mediterranean phryganic ecosystem. A series of seasonal field ecophysiological measurements, i.e. leaf area index (LAI), leaf photosynthesis and leaf reflectance, were conducted on the Phlomis fruticosa shrubs at the days of CHRIS acquisitions over the study site. Leaf scale analysis confirmed background theory on the relationship of the photochemical reflectance index (PRI) with εleaf and provided a detailed view of the wavelengths that can be used in PRI formulation for the specific species. In canopy scale analysis, PRI and some alternative formulations of this index based on CHRIS bands, presented the most significant relationships with εcan, indicating that this index preserves its efficiency in satellite observations for the specific ecosystem. Additionally, spectral indices related to chlorophyll and water content were found to present good relationships with εcan. Taking into account the functional relationship between εcan and chlorophyll content, a combination of the xanthophyll de-epoxidation band (531 nm) with 701 nm CHRIS band in a NDSI is suggested as an alternative to the original PRI formulation that could improve seasonal εcan estimations. The satellite observation geometry effects on the determination of εcan were not very intense for the studied ecosystem. However, the most effective viewing direction was proved to be the backward scattering, while zenith observations were the least efficient for the specific ecosystem, most probably due to increased background effects. Even though the sensitivity of the original PRI formulation to εcan was reduced in forward scattering viewing directions, when 531 nm xanthophyll de-epoxidation band was replaced with higher wavelength bands (540–550 nm), a strong PRI–εcan relationship reappeared. These findings indicate possible shift of xanthophyll de-epoxidation signal according to viewing direction. [Termes IGN] réflectance de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an improved Dark Dense Vegetation (DDV) method for retrieving 500 m-resolution aerosol optical depth (AOT) based on MOD04-C005 arithmetic with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The improvements include change of the movement pattern of retrieval window, selection of a more suitable aerosol type, and storage of the look-up table. The method is then applied to obtain the AOT over the Pearl River Delta region (PRD). By comparing the results with the co-temporal ground sunphotometer observations in 2010, the correlation coefficient is found to be 0.794 with RMSE 0.139 and their variations remain consistent. Contrasts between model values in 2008 and MODIS AOT products in the same date also reveal a high accuracy of the improved DDV method. We also performed sensitivity tests to analyze the impacts of several parameters on apparent reflectance at different bands, and the results show that apparent reflectance is much more sensitive to surface reflectance and AOT than to elevation.
