[Termes IGN] trajectographie (positionnement)Résumé : (Auteur) Trajectory compression is widely used in spatial-temporal databases as it can notably reduce (i) the computation/communication load of clients (GPS-enabled mobile devices) and (ii) the storage cost of servers. Compared with original trajectories, compressed trajectories have clear advantages in data processing, transmitting, storing, etc. In this paper, we investigate a novel problem of searching the Path Nearest Neighbor based on Compressed Trajectories (PNN-CT query). This type of query is conducted on compressed trajectories and the target is to retrieve the PNN with the highest probability (lossy compression leads to the uncertainty), which can bring significant benefits to users in many popular applications such as trip planning. To answer the PNN-CT query effectively and efficiently, a two-phase solution is proposed. First, we use the meta-data and sample points to specify a tight search range. The key of this phase is that the number of data objects/trajectory segments to be processed or decompressed should be kept as small as possible. Our efficiency study reveals that the candidate sets created are tight. Second, we propose a reconstruction algorithm based on probabilistic models to account for the uncertainty when decompressing the trajectory segments in the candidate set. Furthermore, an effective combination strategy is adopted to find the PNN with the highest probability. The complexity analysis shows that our solution has strong advantages over existing methods. The efficiency of the proposed PNN-CT query processing is verified by extensive experiments based on real and synthetic trajectory data in road networks. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) In the past, numerous research efforts have focused on generalization of city building models. However, a generic procedure for creating flexible generalization results supporting the fast and efficient update of original building models with various complexities is still an open problem. Moreover, building clusters created in previously published generalization methods are not flexible enough to meet the various requirements for both legible and realistic visualization. Motivated by these observations, this paper proposes a new method for generating a flexible generalization outcome which enables convenient updating of original building models. It also proposes a flexible preprocessing of this generalized information to render a legible and realistic urban scene. This is accomplished by introducing a novel component structure, termed as FEdge, particularly designed for efficiently managing the geometry and texture information in building cluster instances (both original building models and building clusters) during the generalization, visualization and updating processes. Furthermore, a multiple representation structure, referred to as Evolved Buffer-Tree (EBT), is also introduced. The purpose of the EBT is to organize building cluster instances and to employ more flexible LODs for both legible and realistic visualization of urban scenes. FEdge has an intuitive planar shape which can be effectively used in representing rough 3D facade composed by detailed continuous meshes. Each FEdge is given a unique identifier, referred to as FEdge Index. In the proposed generalization scheme, firstly each original building model treated as a building cluster instance is abstracted and presented as FEdge Indices. These FEdge Indices are then used for producing generalized building cluster instances in the EBT portably, and to support convenient model updating and flexible preprocessing of the generalization results for renderable building cluster instances. Secondly, to achieve a legible and realistic visualization of urban scene, the EBT is flexibly assigned diverse LODs maintaining more important legible information than LODs defined in CityGML for 3D building models. To make the generalization more accurate by considering the city roads and districts, an algorithm for automatic road analysis is applied in our clustering and combination. Numerous experiments considering the geometrical and textural complexity of common urban building models, as well as a typical case study of complex city scene with a large number of building models, verify the effectiveness of our generalization method and the dynamic visualization of the generalized urban models. [Termes IGN] tomographieRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a new hardware-accelerated approach to the volumetric reconstruction of trees from photographs, based on the methods introduced by Reche-Martinez et al. The system applies an adapted computed tomography (CT) procedure that uses a set of oriented photographs with known interior and exterior camera parameters for creating a 3D model of a tree, while requiring considerably fewer images than standard CT. As tomographic reconstructions are complex tasks that result in time-consuming processes for high-resolution volumes, the hitherto existing methods are improved and modified to allow an ideal parallelisation of the computations on graphics hardware. The paper delivers a detailed insight into the complete process of the reconstruction, from the acquisition and preparation of the input data to the implementation of the final system on graphics processing hardware. [Termes IGN] segmentationRésumé : (Auteur) Terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) data plays an important role in 3D modelling of urban scenes. Much research is carried out in the fields of pre-processing, segmentation and geometric reconstruction of laser data of building façades. However, the quality of 3D models obtained from this data is rarely assessed. This paper proposes a qualitative and quantitative assessment approach to evaluate the quality of 3D models of façades constructed with TLS data. Only segmentation and reconstruction operations are considered in this paper, because they cover the main steps in the 3D modelling process. Since every processing step produces an intermediate result, each one must be analysed and compared with an appropriate reference model. A new approach has been conceived to evaluate the precision of the segmentation results. It is based on the calculation of Boolean operators enabling the comparison of planar clusters produced by the segmentation. To evaluate the vector models resulting from the reconstruction step, a method based on quality indices is proposed. It is adapted not only for precision but also for accuracy calculations. The results show that the quality assessment approach is coherent and, moreover, easy to apply. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, the construction of digital representations of a terrestrial and celestial globe will be discussed. Virtual digital (3D) models play an important role in recent research and publications on cultural heritage. The globes discussed in this paper were made by Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594) in 1541 and 1551. Four techniques for the digital representation are discussed and analysed, all using high-resolution photographs of the globes. These photographs were taken under studio conditions in order to get equal lighting and to avoid unwanted light spots. These lighting conditions are important, since the globes have a highly reflective varnish covering. Processing these images using structure from motion, georeferencing of separate scenes and the combination of the photographs with terrestrial laser scanning data results in true 3D representations of the globes. Besides, pseudo-3D models of these globes were generated using dynamic imaging, which is an extensively used technique for visualisations over the Internet. The four techniques and the consequent results are compared on geometric and radiometric quality, with a special focus on their usefulness for distribution and visualisation during an exhibition in honour of the five hundredth birthday of Gerardus Mercator.
