[Termes IGN] vision stéréoscopiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Current research on underwater 3D imaging methods is mainly addressing long range applications like seafloor mapping or surveys of archeological sites and shipwrecks. Recently, there is an increasing need for more accessible and precise close-range 3D acquisition technologies in some application fields like, for example, monitoring the growth of coral reefs or reconstructing underwater archaeological pieces that in most cases cannot be recovered from the seabed. This paper presents the first results of a research project that aims to investigate the possibility of using active optical techniques for the whole-field 3D reconstructions in an underwater environment. In this work we have tested an optical technique, frequently used for in air acquisition, based on the projection of structured lighting patterns acquired by a stereo vision system. We describe the experimental setup used for the underwater tests, which were conducted in a water tank with different turbidity conditions. The tests have evidenced that the quality of 3D reconstruction is acceptable even with high turbidity values, despite the heavy presence of scattering and absorption effects. [Termes IGN] Wuhan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) This study proposes a novel morphological building index (MBl) for automatic building extraction from high-resolu-tion remotely sensed imagery. The basic idea of MBl is to build a relationship between the implicit characteristics of buildings (e.g., brightness, size, and contrast) and the properties of morphological operators (e.g., reconstruction, granulometry, and directionality). Buildings are extracted by performing a threshold on the MBl feature image. Subsequently, the shape features, such as area and length width ratio, are used to refine the binary building map. In order to validate the proposed algorithm, a comparative study was performed between MBl, a recently developed texture-derived built-up presence index (PanTex), and the widely used object-based approach. Experiments were conducted on a multispectral GeoEye-1 image, covering a study area of 5.5 km by 5.3 km in Hongshan district of Wuhan, central China. In experiments, MBl achieved satisfactory results and outperformed other algorithms in terms of both accuracies and visual inspection. The effect: of parameters of mbi were also analyzed in detail, includ-ing directions, sizes and the binaryzation threshold. [Termes IGN] recouvrement d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) A method is presented for the co-registration of overlapping elevation surfaces based on local slope analysis. Comparison and statistical analysis of local slope versus local elevation difference between overlapping surfaces allows for the estimation of both vertical and horizontal offsets between the two surfaces. This method is then used to re-align the flightlines of a Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) dataset collected in southern Idaho resulting in a dataset with significantly higher accuracy than the original. The relative horizontal accuracy is doubled, with a final value of approximately 25 to 30 cm, while the relative vertical accuracy is improved by several centimeters to a final valm of approximately 6 to 7 cm. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) An effective 3D method incorporating user assistance for modeling complex buildings is described. This method utilizes the connectivity and similar structure information among unit blocks in a multi-component building structure, to enable the user to incrementally construct models of many types of buildings. The system attempts to minimize the complexity and the number of user interactions needed to assist an existing automatic system in this task. Several examples are presented that demonstrate significant improvement and efficiency, compared with other approaches and with purely manual systems. [Termes IGN] surveillance sanitaireRésumé : (Auteur) The focus of this research is a hierarchical image matching strategy and a multiple surface registration technique for 3D reconstruction of a scoliotic torso. Scoliosis is a deformity of the human spine most commonly occurring in children. After being detected, periodic examinations via x-rays are traditionally used to measure its progression. However, due to the increased risk of cancer, non-invasive and radiation-free scoliosis detection and progression monitoring methodologies are being researched. For example, quantifying the scoliotic deformity through the torso surface is a valid alternative because of its high correlation with the internal spine curvature. This work proposes a low-cost, multi-camera photogrammetric system for semi-automated 3D reconstruction of a torso surface with a sub-millimetre level accuracy. The paper first describes the system design and calibration for optimal accuracy. It then covers the reconstruction and registration procedures giving insights into the hierarchical image matching strategy and the multiple surface registration technique. Final accuracy is evaluated through the goodness of fit between the reconstructed surface and a more accurate set of points measured by a coordinate measuring machine.
