[Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) Frequently, terrestrial LiDAR and image data are used to extract high resolution building geometry like windows, doors and protrusions for three-dimensional (3D) façade reconstruction. However, such a purely data driven bottom-up modelling of façade structures is only feasible if the available observations meet considerable requirements on data quality. Errors in measurement, varying point densities, reduced accuracies, as well as incomplete coverage affect the achievable correctness and reliability of the reconstruction result. While dependence on data quality is a general disadvantage with data driven bottom-up approaches, model based top-down reconstructions are much more robust. Algorithms introduce knowledge about the appearance and arrangement of objects. Thus, they cope with data uncertainty and allow for a procedural modelling of building structures in a predefined architectural style, which is inherent in grammar or model descriptions. We aim at a quality sensitive façade reconstruction which is on the one hand robust against erroneous and incomplete data, but on the other hand not subject to prespecified rules or models. For this purpose, we combine bottom-up and top-down strategies by integrating automatically inferred rules into a data driven reconstruction process. Façade models reconstructed during a bottom-up method serve as a knowledge base for further processing. Dominant or repetitive features and regularities as well as their hierarchical relationship are detected from the modelled façade elements and automatically translated into rules. These rules together with the 3D representations of the modelled façade elements constitute a formal grammar. It holds all the information which is necessary to reconstruct façades in the style of the given building. The paper demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is very flexible towards different data quality and incomplete sensor data. The inferred grammar is used for the verification of the façade model produced during the data driven reconstruction process and the generation of synthetic façades for which only partial or no sensor data is available. Moreover, knowledge propagation is not restricted to façades of one single building. Based on a small set of formal grammars derived from just a few observed buildings, façade reconstruction is also possible for whole districts featuring uniform architectural styles. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Modern terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) generate between 10 and 50 million 3D coordinates per minutes : about 500Mbytes of data. Together with high-resolution images for texturing purposes, this is enough information to choke high-end PCs running commercial software. The National Research Council in Canada has developped a framework for extracting information from very large TLS and imagery datasets, an evolution demonstrated in the Erechtheion project. This monument has been modelled in the 3D to a spatial resolution of 2mm. The fully textured 3D model containing 348 million polygons can be interactively visualised and analysed in real time. [Termes IGN] stratigraphieRésumé : (Auteur) Mainstream techniques for the construction of 3D geological models frequently rely on high-density subsurface datasets, such as 3D seismic surveys or dense 2D seismic grids. In settings where the available geological and/or geophysical data are relatively sparse, the construction of a consistent 3D structural framework is seldom straightforward and is strongly dependent on the optimization of the use of surface data. To deal with this challenge, workflows for constructing 3D models from sparse surface data have been proposed by multiple authors. This paper presents three automated techniques which optimize the use of data and enhance the time-efficiency of 3D model construction: 3D geological contact analysis, 3D dip-domain construction, and 3D isopach measurement and construction. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Although the Historic Peninsula of old Istanbul was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985, complete documentation of this important area has not yet been carried out. In 2006 the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Historical Environment Protection Directorate initiated the "Historic Peninsula Project", which covers an area of 1500 ha and includes approximately 48 000 buildings in crowded and frequently narrow streets. BI.MTAS, a company owned by the Municipality, immediately started the documentation of all buildings in the project area using terrestrial laser scanning. This created the challenge of building up an efficient production environment with new high-end technology to fulfill the requirements of this project in a very short timeframe of 2 years. This paper describes the entire production environment for documentation of all buildings, detailing the frequent adaptations of the process resulting from learning on the job. Although the data acquisition and mapping environment was established in the course of production, it was always essential to optimise the technical solutions in order to meet the requirements for data quality and delivery deadlines. Only 80 ha of the required 1500 ha was completed using static scanning during the first 6 months, thus requiring a change from static to mobile terrestrial laser scanning in order to accelerate the work and to conclude the scanning phase for the remaining major area within 3 months. [Termes IGN] résistance des matériauxRésumé : (Auteur) This article presents a modular photogrammetric recording and image analysis system for inspecting the material characteristics of transparent foils, in particular Ethylen-TetraFluorEthylen-Copolymer (ETFE) foils. The foils are put under increasing air pressure and are observed by a stereo camera system. Determining the time-variable 3D shape of transparent material imposes a number of challenges: especially the automatic point transfer between stereo images and, in temporal domain, from one image pair to the next. We developed an automatic approach that accommodates for these particular circumstances and allows reconstruction of the 3D shape for each epoch as well as determining 3D translation vectors between epochs by feature tracking. Examples including numerical results and accuracy measures prove the applicability of the system.
