Inspired by locally linear embedding from manifold, we propose a novel automatic change-detection method through an offline learning approach. The proposed method comprises three steps. First, two coupled dictionaries of the difference image (DI) patches and change-detection map patches are generated from known image pairs. Second, we approximately represent each patch of the input DI with respect to the DI dictionary by using the matching the pursuit algorithm. Third, the coefficients of this representation are applied with the change-detection map dictionary to generate the output change-detection map. This way, we exploit the relationship between the DI patches and the corresponding change-detection map patches based on two coupled dictionaries. In addition, the relationship guides us to construct the change-detection map for any given input DI. Experimental results on real synthetic aperture radar databases show that the proposed method is superior to its counterparts. Our method can obtain promising results, even though the dictionaries are prepared by simple random sampling from fixed training images. [Termes IGN] séparateur à vaste margeRésumé : (Auteur) Since spatial datasets are subject to sampling errors, a smoothing interpolation method should be employed to remove noise during DEM construction. Although least squares support vector machines (LSSVM) have been widely accepted as a classifier, their effect on smoothing noisy data is almost unknown. In this article, the smoothness of LSSVM was explored, and its effect on smoothing noisy data in DEM construction was tested. In order to improve the ability to deal with large datasets, a local method of LSSVM has been developed, where only the neighboring sampling points around the one to be estimated are used for computation. A numerical test indicated that LSSVM is more accurate than the classical smoothing methods including TPS and kriging, and its error surfaces are more evenly distributed. The real-world example of smoothing noise inherent in lidar-derived DEMs also showed that LSSVM has a positive smoothing effect, which is approximately as accurate as TPS. In short, LSSVM with a high efficiency can be considered as an alternative smoothing method for smoothing noisy data in DEM construction. [Termes IGN] intersection spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) Although modern imagery usually has latitude and longitude or similar coordinates to provide true world location, much potentially useful imagery lacks this information. This includes historical imagery, as well as modern imagery that may have lost its locational information through inappropriate processing. Its provision through the process of georeferencing is still primarily a manual procedure. This paper proposes an efficient, fully- automated solution for massively asymmetric image-to-vector georeferencing whereby an image of a relatively small geographic area is automatically located relative to a substantially larger vector map base. For control points, road intersections are automatically extracted from high resolution aerial or satellite imagery using the new concepts of reference circles and central pixels. For automated control point pair identification between image and vector map, an invariant point pattern matching approach is proposed based on shape invariance for similarity transforms and invariant area ratios for affine transforms. The matching algorithm necessitates only a small subset of image points and requires no additional information beyond pixel and map coordinates. Further, it tolerates inaccurate, missing and spurious points, and provides high performance with linear scalability. A final step performs transformation verification, globalization and optimization based upon an Iterative Closest Point Greedy algorithm. Experimentation shows that images covering a few city blocks with as few as 6 to 17 extracted road intersection points can be efficiently and correctly located using the road network of Dallas County, Texas, with over 80,000 intersections. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel linear registration algorithm for lidar point clouds and aerial images without orientation parameters. First, preprocessing is conducted to classify the lidar point clouds into ground points, building points, and aboveground, non-building points. After preprocessing, the algorithm consists of two sequential steps, i.e., Tilt Displacement Correction and Height Displacement Correction. As the kernel of the proposed registration algorithm, the mathematical model for Height Displacement Correction is a set of linear formulas analytically deduced from the rigorous geometric function of a single image. The proposed registration algorithm does not require any orientation parameters for the image, which greatly lowers the requirements for image acquisition. Due to the model's linearity, the proposed algorithm is computationally efficient. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can register aerial images without orientation parameters at the same accuracy level of space resection based on collinear equations. This result fulfills the requirement for the fusion of lidar range data and aerial images in most large-scale urban modeling applications. In this article the spatial variability of soil nutrients was investigated and a regionalized nutrient management system was developed using geostatistics and geographic information system technologies. A total of 511 GPS-referenced soil samples were taken in Yongji County, Shanxi province, China, and analysed for major soil nutrients: soil total nitrogen (TN), Olsen extractable phosphorus (OLSENP) and extractable potassium (EXTK). Low concentrations of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) were found and they are likely to be the main limiting nutrients for crop growth in this county. Within the county moderate spatial dependence was found for all three soil variables, but at different spatial scales. The spatial distributions of TN, OLSENP and EXTK were estimated by using kriging interpolation. The cropped areas of the county were divided into fertilizer management categories consisting of four classes of TN, three classes of OLSENP and two classes of EXTK. For the targeted crop yields, regionalized fertilization maps of N, P and K in the county were produced using geographic information system. In 3-year field verification trials in two villages the crop yields of the wheat-maize rotation system increased by 10-20%, and farmers' cash income increased by 1550-2610 RMB ha-1 year-1 where regional fertilization recommendations were implemented, in comparison with traditional farmers' practices. The regionalized maps are a practical alternative to site-specific soil nutrient management approaches in areas where it is not practical, because of small farm size or other constraints, to use intensive soil sampling and chemical analyses.
