[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a typification method for linear pattern in urban building generalization. The proposed method includes two processes. Firstly, structural knowledge in terms of linear pattern is detected using a two-step algorithm taking the advantages of Gestalt visual perception, computational geometry and graph theory. Spatial neighbourhood is captured using interpolated constrained Delaunay triangulation and the resulting proximity graph is pruned to be heterogeneous to get acceptable linear patterns with regard to Gestalt visual perception. Then, a typification strategy is proposed, in which typification is regarded as a progressive and iterative process consisting of elimination, exaggeration and displacement. The typification strategy iteratively executes eliminating the building with minimum overall effect, exaggerating remaining buildings considering key location and spatial characteristics and displacing them to preserve the linear pattern until elimination quantity is satisfied. Experiments show that this proposed strategy is effective and linear patterns are guaranteed with correctness and completeness. [Termes IGN] typificationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes an approach for the typification of buildings using a mesh-simplification technique. The approach is adapted from the area of computer graphics and was originally developed for surface reconstruction and mesh simplification. The main goal was to develop an algorithm which creates fast and reproducible results. The typification procedure is modelled as a two-stage process, with the steps 'positioning' and 'representation'. While the positioning step determines the number and the position of the building objects based on Delaunay triangulation, the representation step is used to calculate the size and orientation for the replacement buildings. The results presented show the important influence of weights during positioning steps to control the object distribution. The proposed parameters are the number of objects as well as several object characteristics such as size, shape, orientation, and semantic. The approach has to be extended, if building alignments are also to be preserved. Further applications are imaginable, for instance the icon placement on dynamic maps. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) A major focus of research in recent years has been the development of algorithms for automated line However, combination of the algorithms with other generalization operators is a challenging problem. In this research a key aim was to extend a snakes optimization approach, allowing displacement of lines, to also be used for line smoothing. Furthermore, automated selection of control parameters is important .for fully automated solutions. An existing approach based on line segmentation was used to control the selection of smoothing parameters dependent on object characteristics. Additionally a new typification routine is presented, which uses the same preprocessed analysis for the segmentation of lines to find suitable candidates from curves bends. The typification is realized by deleting undersized bends and emphasizing the remaining curve bends. The main results of this research are two new algorithms for line generalization, where the importance of the line smoothing algorithm lies in the usage of a optimization approach which can also be used for line displacement. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) The availability of methods for abstracting and generalizing spatial data is vital for understanding and communicating spatial information. Spatial analysis using maps at different scales is a good example of this. Such methods are needed not only for analogue spatial data sets but even more so for digital data. In order to automate the process of generating different levels of detail of a spatial data set, generalization operations are used. The paper first gives an overview on current approaches for the automation of generalization and data abstraction, and then presents solutions for three generalization problems based on optimization techniques. Least-Squares Adjustment is used for displacement and shape simplification (here, building groundplans), and Self-Organizing Maps, a Neural Network technique, is applied for typification, i.e. a density preserving reduction of objects. The methods are validated with several examples and evaluated according to their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, a scenario describes how these methods can be combined to automatically yield a satisfying result for integrating two data sets of different scales.
