[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) This research deals with the automatic generation of 2D land cover maps of urban areas using very high resolution multispectral aerial imagery. The appropriate selection of classifier and attributes is important to achieve high thematic accuracies. In this paper, new attributes are generated to increase the discriminative power of auxiliary information provided by remote sensing images. The generated attributes are derived from the vegetation index and elevation information using morphological attribute profiles. The extended experimental evaluation and comparison of attribute profile-based mapping solutions is conducted to derive the optimal combinations of attributes required for classification and to understand the genericity of attributes on a range of classifiers, i.e., various combinations of attributes and classifiers. Experimental results with two high resolution images show that the proposed attributes derived on auxiliary information outperform the existing attribute profiles computed on original image and its principal components. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Progress in automated photogrammetric DEM generation is presented. Starting from the procedures and the performance parameters of automated photogrammetric DEM generation, the results of some practical tests with large scale images are presented. The DEMs are derived from images taken by a digital large-frame aerial camera and checked by reference data of superior accuracy. In average, a vertical accuracy of ó h = 13 cm or 0.20 per thousand of the mean flying height above mean terrain has been achieved. Some recent innovations in digital large-frame cameras and in the processing software give hope for even better results. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) This report deals with research work how digital terrain models can automatically be checked and improved. Test material consisting of three DTMs of different acquisition methods has been prepared, and six research groups applied their methods with the delivered DTMs. The provided imagery is suitable for the production of orthoimages and serves also as auxiliary material for the checking and improving of DTMs. The results of the participants were analyzed by means of accurate reference material with regard to accuracy. Furthermore, the completeness and degree of automation at the
different methods have been evaluated. The report describes in detail the delivered test material, the characteristics of the different methods, the strategy in the evaluation including the applied accuracy measures. The improving of DTMs is
also possible to a large extent. A thematic map can give a quick overview where additional measurements are required. The applied methods are compared by means of the accuracy measures derived both from the delivered material and from the accurate reference data of the pilot centre. One method, which derives correction for the delivered DTM by means of parallaxes between two overlapping orthoimages, was applied to all test areas and achieved the best results. The three DTMs
could be tested with an accuracy of σh=0.015% of the flying height. Proposals for future practical work and further investigations are given. The results of this investigation will also be disseminated in educational seminars and e-learning courses of the EuroSDR.
