[Termes IGN] résolution multipleRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-observation of satellite remote-sensing provides the ability to achieve a higher spatial resolution image. Based on the relation between sensors of different spatial resolution, this paper presents a multi-observation in spatial called subpixel-shifted multi-observation, to acquire a more accurate image of higher spatial resolution than the original observations. In this kind of observation, the same area on the ground is observed repeatedly with a spatial resolution in a subpixel shifted way. All the acquired observation images are combined into a higher resolution image. This formulated as a super-resolution equation. When comparing the existing super-resolution algorithms, we find that the Iterative Back-Projection (IBP) method suggested by Peleg et al. is an appropriate and effective method for solving this problem. Based on IBP, a pratical implementation is presented. Computer experiments on remote sensing images and error analysis show its effectiveness. Some problems, such as back projection, undersampling, and fusion of observed samples, are discussed further. The resultant image from this method has both better quality and higher spatial resolution than the original observation. [Termes IGN] Variable-Interference-Filter Imaging SpectrometerRésumé : (Auteur) The Variable-Interference-Filter Imaging Spectrometer (VIFIS) is an airborne imaging system. Unlike usual airborne spectrometers, the image acquisition of VIFIS is based on 2D sensors with its pixel spatially registered to different passing wavelengths. The correction of perturbations upon the VIFIS platform, required by the hyperspectral image generation, relies solely on the information extracted from the 2D pushbroom image flow. In this paper, we present an analysis of the distortions of the pushbroom scan caused by perturbations upon the platform. Hyperspectral image generation algorithms and band registration methods are also discussed. A practical pre-processing approach is developed to automatically track the displacements and generate up to 64 hyperspectral bands. Finally, a preprocessing example is presented as a demonstration of the overall methodology. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The northern part of Lantau Island in Hong Kong is undergoing very rapid development following completion of the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok on the island. This development is adjacent to a range of steeply sloping hills that experience levels of annual rainfall in the range of 2000-2400mm. Rainfall-induced landslides on this steeply sloping natural terrain are therefore potential hazards to property developments downslope. The objective of this study is to characterize the initiation process and the subsequent travel distance of the landslides resulting from recent rainstorms, by integrating aerial photogrammetry with GIS. These landslides, which occurred during the 18 July 1992 and 4-5 November 1993 rainstorms, were interpreted from sequential aerial photographs. Data on these landslides were collected to form a landslide database. Such data, together with information on geology, slope gradient, elevation, slope aspect, slope shape, and vegetation cover were entered into a Geographical Information System (GIS), to determine the geologic and geomorphologic characteristics of the landslide source and to estimate the travel distance of landslide debris. It is demonstrated that this integrated approach of GIS and aerial photogrammetry could serve as an effective means of landslide characterization. It is found that Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) with the composite data of multi-temporal images is limited by the problem of large null set containing crop pixels. Therefore, for effective classification of multi-temporal images, two approaches are evaluated : (1) MLC with different strategies-sequential MLC (s_MLC), MLC with Principal Components (pca_MLC) and iterative MLC (i_MLC) ; and (2) Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with back-propagation method. These classifiers were applied on multi-temporal Indian Remote-Sending satellite (IRS)-1 B images to classify wheat crop in two areas of India, one with dominant wheat and the other with less dominant wheat cultivation. Among the three strategies of MLC, i_MLC has resulted in relatively better classification of wheat. However, the correctness of labelling of wheat pixels. The performance of ANN is proved to be better, in both the situations of dominant wheat and less dominant wheat cultivation. [Termes IGN] réflectance végétaleRésumé : (Auteur) This paper outlines the strategies available for estimating the biophysical properties of crop canopies from remotely sensed data. Spectral reflectance and biophysical data were obtained over 132 plots of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) and in the first part of the paper the strength of the relationships between vegetation indices (VI) and leaf area index (LAI) are examined. In the second part, an approach is tested in which a canopy reflectance model is used to generate simulated spectra for a wide range of biophysical conditions and these data are used to train an artificial neural network (ANN). The advantage of the second approach is that a priori knowledge of the measurement conditions including soil reflectance, canopy architecture and solar position can be included explicitly in the modelling. The results show that the estimation of sugar beet LAI using a trained neural network is more reliable than the use of VI and has the potential to replace the use of VI for operational applications. The use of a priori data on the variation in soil spectral reflectance gave rise to a small increase in LAI estimation accuracy. [Termes IGN] télédétection spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) The present study uses a satellite remote sensing approach for assesssing coastal sediment dynamics in the western side of the Zanzibar channel, Tanzania. Four Landsat images (1986, 1998, 1999 and 2000) were used for the study. investigation of the four images revealed that the Ruvu delta north of the river mouth has been growing rapidly, especially between 1986 and 1998, with an annual northward linear growth rate of about 133m year -1 and an annual areal growth rate of about 1 km2 every 3 years. The study identified a palaeo-shoreline feature that is parallel to the present shoreline and located about 1.9 km inland from the present shoreline. An important sediment contributor to river Ruvu is derived from the Uluguru Mountains, a tropical mountainous area located about 200 km from the coastline of the Tanzania mainland. The working hypothesis is that either the observed growth of the delta occured at a gradual rate between 1986 and 1998 or it was mainly an episodic event related to the extreme rainfall events such as the 1997/98 El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) event, which was associated with extreme rainfall and widespread landslides.
