[Termes IGN] surveillance forestièreRésumé : (auteur) The forest tree height and aboveground biomass (AGB) are important indicators for monitoring changes and trends in forest carbon storage and terrestrial carbon fluxes. Accurate large-scale wall-to-wall mapping of the forest tree height and AGB remain challenging due to the limited data availability for extraction tree height and the data signal saturation problem in AGB estimation. In this study, we explored the potential of forest tree height mapping using stereo imageries, and analyzed whether accounting for such information, in addition to optical sensor data, could improve the performance of AGB estimations of coniferous forests in a case study in North China. First, a spatially continuous tree height product was obtained using Ziyuan-3 satellite (ZY-3) stereo images combined with a digital elevation model (DEM) obtained from Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) data. Second, two AGB estimation models were established by combining the forest tree height with vegetation index, spectral, biophysical (from Sentinel-2 images), and topographic variables. A random forest algorithm was utilized to evaluate the effect of including the tree height variable in the AGB estimation. The results showed that the tree height estimation using the nadir and forward views of the ZY-3 stereo images was more accurate than that based on the nadir and backward views from the same images. The AGB estimation model incorporating the tree height variable with a coefficient of determination value of 0.7789, a root mean square error (RMSE) value of 29.815 Mg/ha and a relative RMSE of 23.42% was more robust and effective, thereby demonstrating that the tree height variable can be used to alleviate the data signal saturation issue successfully. The proposed approach can provide new insight into forest tree height mapping and AGB products obtained from satellite stereo images and freely accessible Sentinel-2 multispectral images. Under the great attention of the government and the guidance of the major scientific and technological project of the high-resolution earth observation system, China has made continuous breakthroughs and progress in high-resolution remote sensing imaging technology. The development of domestic high-resolution remote sensing satellites shows a vigorous trend, and consequently, a relatively stable and perfect high-resolution earth observation system has been formed. The development of high-resolution remote sensing satellites has greatly promoted and enriched modern mapping technologies and methods. In this paper, the de velopment status, along with mapping modes and applications of China’s high-resolution remote sensing satellites are reviewed, and the development trend in high-resolution earth observation system for global and ground control-free mapping is discussed, providing a reference for the subsequent development of high-resolution remote sensing satellites in China. Information on the driving forces of intra-urban temperature variation is crucial for ameliorating the urban thermal environment. Although prior studies have suggested that urban morphology (e.g., landscape pattern, land-use type) can significantly affect land surface temperature (LST), few studies have explored the comprehensive effect of 2D and 3D urban morphology on LST in different urban functional zones (UFZs), especially at a fine scale. Therefore, in this research, we investigated the relationship between 2D/3D urban morphology and summer daytime LST in Wuhan, a representative megacity in Central China, which is known for its extremely hot weather in summer, by adopting high-resolution remote sensing data and geographical information data. The “urban morphology” in this study consists of 2D urban morphological parameters, 3D urban morphological parameters, and UFZs. Our results show that: (1) The LST is significantly related to 2D and 3D urban morphological parameters, and the scattered distribution of buildings with high rise can facilitate the mitigation of LST. Although sky view factor (SVF) is an important measure of 3D urban geometry, its influence on LST is complicated and context-dependent. (2) Trees are the most influential factor in reducing LST, and the cooling efficiency mainly depends on their proportions. The fragmented and irregular distribution of grass/shrubs also plays a significant role in alleviating LST. (3) With respect to UFZs, the residential zone is the largest heat source, whereas the highest LST appears in commercial and industrial zones. (4) Results of the multivariate regression and variation partitioning indicate that the relative importance of 2D and 3D urban morphological parameters on LST varies among different UFZs and 2D morphology outperforms 3D morphology in LST modulation. The results are generally consistent in spring, summer and autumn. These findings can provide insights for urban planners and designers on how to mitigate the surface UHI (SUHI) effect via rational landscape design and urban management during summer daytime. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Change detection based on a multi-classifier ensemble system can take advantage of multiple classifiers to extract change information in remote sensing images. In this paper, an efficient heterogeneous ensemble algorithm, i.e., the stacked generalization (SG) combined with image segmentation, is proposed to construct a simple multi-classifier ensemble system that can offer better detection accuracy with lower computational cost. Due to the rich spatial information in high-spatial-resolution remote sensing images, structure texture (morphological) and statistical texture features are extracted to construct the input data to the ensemble system along with spectral features. In addition, constrained analysis on segmented objects integrates the smaller heterogeneity segmentation map and pixel-wise change map to generate the final change map. The experiments were carried out on two ZY-3 and a QuickBird dataset. The results show that the proposed algorithm can integrate the advantages of both pixel-wise ensemble and object-oriented methods, and effectively improve the accuracy and stability of change detection. [Termes IGN] ZiYuan-3Résumé : (Auteur) Integration of satellite laser altimetry data and stereo images without ground control points (GCPs) is an attractive method for global mapping. In this paper, we propose a new strategy of integrating Ziyuan3-02 (ZY3-02) satellite stereo images and laser altimetry data using a rigorous sensor model (RSM) with laser ranging constraint under the synchronized and rational function model (RFM) with laser elevation constraint under the non-synchronized capture for high-accuracy mapping without GCPs. Four experimental regions in China are selected to validate the method. The results show that the ZY3-02 satellite laser altimetry data can be used to improve the elevation accuracy of stereo images to better than 3.0 m without GCPs. All of the conclusions are valuable for the development of China's next generation of surveying and mapping satellites.
