[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Machine learning algorithms such as Random Forest (RF) are being increasingly applied on traditionally geographical topics such as population estimation. Even though RF is a well performing and generalizable algorithm, the vast majority of its implementations is still ‘aspatial’ and may not address spatial heterogenous processes. At the same time, remote sensing (RS) data which are commonly used to model population can be highly spatially heterogeneous. From this scope, we present a novel geographical implementation of RF, named Geographical Random Forest (GRF) as both a predictive and exploratory tool to model population as a function of RS covariates. GRF is a disaggregation of RF into geographical space in the form of local sub-models. From the first empirical results, we conclude that GRF can be more predictive when an appropriate spatial scale is selected to model the data, with reduced residual autocorrelation and lower Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) values. Finally, and of equal importance, GRF can be used as an effective exploratory tool to visualize the relationship between dependent and independent variables, highlighting interesting local variations and allowing for a better understanding of the processes that may be causing the observed spatial heterogeneity. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (auteur) One of the important issues in ubiquitous geographic information science (GIS) is designing user-centric path finding algorithms to meet user needs. Mostly, in a route planning problem, the user’s purpose is optimization of two or more objective functions simultaneously. Thus, the problem is a multi-objective problem. In the present study, having considered multi-objective optimization methods in path finding, we developed an algorithm for solving this problem using an improved multi-objective ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm. Modifications are introduced for various components of the ant colony metaheuristics; specifically, for those associated with the ‘ant decision rule’. The proposed algorithm was tested on the studied network. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach has acceptable settings, repeatability and run time. In addition, one of the important research outputs is a pareto-front which allows the user to select the final path according to the desired priorities. [Termes IGN] tourbièreRésumé : (auteur) Forest fires are abrupt transformations of the natural ecosystem and management authorities are required to take preventive measures to tackle fire events. Geographic information system (GIS) is a powerful tool for providing information with a spatial context and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is a well-established technique for multiple criteria decision making. In this study, GIS and AHP are combined to analyse seven fire-related factors related to climate, topography and human influence. Fire risk for a peat swamp forested area in Kuan Kreng, Nakorn Sri Thammarat province, Thailand is estimated in five categories. 705 historic fire events from 2006 to 2017 are used to validate our approach. 82% of the historic fire incidents occurred within the highest fire risk class categories while only a few omission errors were recorded. The combined approach of GIS and AHP techniques can yield useful fire risk maps, which can consequently be used for future planning and management of fire prone areas. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) The generalization of building footprints acts as the basis of multi-scale mapping. Most of the previous studies focus on the generalization of regular building clusters within a wide neighbourhood, but only few has concerned about the generalization of cluttered building clusters within the narrow space such as urban village. The buildings in urban villages show special characteristics in terms of individual properties and group properties, and thus their map generalization processes are often limited. This study proposes a framework to generalize the cluttered building clusters that allows for multi-scale mapping. It first adopts a heuristic method to group adjacent buildings based on the Delaunay triangulation model and then aggregates and simplifies each building group separately. Given that the aggregated buildings in urban villages often show cluttered alignments, our method further trims the jagged boundaries of building footprints by extracting the gap space between neighbouring buildings from the Delaunay triangulation model. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The study objective is to predict the epidemiological impact of dengue fever arbovirosis in urban tropical areas of Pakistan. To do so, we used the GPS-based data of the Aedes larvae collected during 2014–2015 in Lahore. We developed a Geographically Weighted Logistic Regression (GWLR) model for Geospatially predicting larvae presence or absence in Lahore. Data on rainfall, temperature are included along with time series of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) derived from Landsat imagery. We observed a high spatial variability of the GWLR parameter estimates of these variables in the study area. The GWLR model significantly (R2a = 0.78) explained the presence or absence of Aedes larvae with temperature, rainfall and NDVI variables in South and Southeast of the study area. In the North and North-West, however, GWLR relationships were observed weak in highly populated areas. Interpolating GWLR coefficients generate more accurate maps of Aedes larvae presence or absence.
