[Termes IGN] risque naturelRésumé : (Auteur) In this communication, we combine different products obtained from the NOAAAVHRR sensor in order to evaluate the relationships between the anomalies in the NDVI in peninsular Spain and the Balearic islands during the four summer months of the year 2000 and the active "hot spots" detected in the same time period and available in the World Fire Web. The analysis is carried out using the relative proportions of pixels affected and not affected by fire in the several anomaly classes defined for the whole study area and additionally for the different Autonomous Communities. Our starting hypothesis is that forest fires are registered in higher proportions in the negative anomaly classes, that is, with NDVI values lower than the mean for a reference period. The results obtained present a great agreement with this hypothesis, in such a way that the relative proportion of pixels affected by fire is greater in the negative anomaly classes. [Termes IGN] sécheresseRésumé : (Auteur) In this work, we combine spatial data from a Digital Forest Map of Spain, the Second National Forest Inventory and TM images to explore the differences in the spectral response of several vegetation types in three years with strong differences in water availability. The results point to the possibility of discrimination between dry and humid years based on the NDVI, although drought conditions affect in different ways to the several vegetation types. [Termes IGN] surveillance météorologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Spain is a country which is particularly affected by drought given that during the period from 1880 to 1980 over 50% of years were dry or very dry. During the 1990s the period from 1992 to 1995 was one of the driest in the century. In 1992 losses caused by drought in cereal crops were put at 50 655 million pesetas (47% of the total production value). In 1995 losses in crops were estimated at 27 971 million pesetas (30% of the total production value). The identification of areas affected by drought using information supplied by the AVHRR sensor on the NOAA satellites is viable if a sufficiently large data base is available and could prove useful for those in charge of monitoring this type of phenomena.
