[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Social media streams and remote sensing data have emerged as new sources for tracking disaster events, and assessing their damages. Previous studies focus on a case-by-case approach, where a specific event was first chosen and filtering criteria (e.g., keywords, spatiotemporal information) are manually designed and used to retrieve relevant data for disaster analysis. This paper presents a framework that synthesizes multi-sourced data (e.g., social media, remote sensing, Wikipedia, and Web), spatial data mining and text mining technologies to build an architecturally resilient and elastic solution to support disaster analysis of historical and future events. Within the proposed framework, Wikipedia is used as a primary source of different historical disaster events, which are extracted to build an event database. Such a database characterizes the salient spatiotemporal patterns and characteristics of each type of disaster. Additionally, it can provide basic semantics, such as event name (e.g., Hurricane Sandy) and type (e.g., flooding) and spatiotemporal scopes, which are then tuned by the proposed procedures to extract additional information (e.g., hashtags for searching tweets), to query and retrieve relevant social media and remote sensing data for a specific disaster. Besides historical event analysis and pattern mining, the cloud-based framework can also support real-time event tracking and monitoring by providing on-demand and elastic computing power and storage capabilities. A prototype is implemented and tested with data relative to the 2011 Hurricane Sandy and the 2013 Colorado flooding. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The use of disparity information is computationally coste-effective for 3D-assisted mapping applications. However, off-nadir satellite images over dense urban areas suffer from severe occlusion. Therefore, large gaps will be created due to the unsuccessful matching in the occluded areas. Commonly, gap interpolation produces misleading information that destroys the quality of the subsequent information extraction application. Hence, the more reliable solution is to fill the occlusion gaps by supplementary data. However, disparity maps are the co-relation of one stereo pair. Hence, supplementary disparity maps cannot be directly generated and applied. Thus, this paper introduces the Double Projection Plane (DPP) method for constructing disparity proportionality among multi-view stereo satellite images and calculating analytically the transferring scales required for producing supplementary disparity data. Accordingly, based on multi-view stereo satellite images, this method is promising to provide gap-and-outlier-free disparity maps that have the potential to replace the need for elevation models to some extent. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) Avalanches are behind the majority of fatalities and heavy damage to property in snow-covered mountainous terrain like Himalaya. Recognizing avalanche susceptible areas and publication of avalanche susceptibility maps assist decision-makers and planners to execute suitable measures to reduce the avalanche risk. The present study is an attempt to prepare an avalanche susceptibility map of the Nubra valley region using multi-criteria decision analysis–analytical hierarchy process model in GIS environment. The most prominent avalanche occurrence factors used in this model are slope, aspect, curvature, elevation, terrain roughness and ground cover. ASTER GDEM V2 and Landsat 8 satellite imagery were used to generate considered factors. For validation of the results, prediction rate/accuracy is calculated using the avalanche inventory map of documented avalanche locations. To calculate the prediction accuracy, area under the ROC curve (ROC-AUC) method has been used. The prediction accuracy of the validation results using ROC-AUC shows 91%. [Termes IGN] turbidité océaniqueRésumé : (Auteur) This study presents a comprehensive assessment of the performance of the commonly used atmospheric correction models (NIR, SWIR, NIR-SWIR and FM) and ocean color products (OC3 and OC2) derived from MODIS images over the Arabian Gulf, Sea of Oman, and Arabian Sea. The considered atmospheric correction models have been used to derive MODIS normalized water-leaving radiances (nLw), which are compared to in situ water nLw(λ) data collected at different locations by Masdar Institute, United Arab of Emirates, and from AERONET-OC (the ocean color component of the Aerosol Robotic Network) database. From this comparison, the NIR model has been found to be the best performing model among the considered atmospheric correction models, which in turn shows disparity, especially at short wavelengths (400–500 nm) under high aerosol optical depth conditions (AOT (869) > 0.3) and over turbid waters. To reduce the error induced by these factors, a modified model taking into consideration the atmospheric and water turbidity conditions has been proposed. A turbidity index was used to identify the turbid water and a threshold of AOT (869) = 0.3 was used to identify the dusty atmosphere. Despite improved results in the MODIS nLw(λ) using the proposed approach, Chl-a models (OC3 and OC2) show low performance when compared to the in situ Chl-a measurements collected during several field campaigns organized by local, regional and international organizations. This discrepancy might be caused by the improper parametrization of these models or/and the improper selection of bands. Thus, an adaptive power fit algorithm (R2 = 0.95) has been proposed to improve the estimation of Chl-a concentration from 0.07 to 10 mg/m3 by using a new blue/red MODIS band ratio of (443,488)/645 instead of the default band ratio used for OC3(443,488)/547. The selection of this new band ratio (443,488)/645 has been based on using band 645 nm which has been found to represent both water turbidity and algal absorption. [Termes IGN] retard ionosphèriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Single-frequency precise point positioning (SF-PPP) is a potential precise positioning technique due to the advantages of the high accuracy in positioning after convergence and the low cost in operation. However, there are still challenges limiting its applications at present, such as the long convergence time, the low reliability, and the poor satellite availability and continuity in kinematic applications. In recent years, the achievements in the dual-frequency PPP have confirmed that its performance can be significantly enhanced by employing the slant ionospheric delay and receiver differential code bias (DCB) constraint model, and the multi-constellation Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) data. Accordingly, we introduce the slant ionospheric delay and receiver DCB constraint model, and the multi-GNSS data in SF-PPP modular together. In order to further overcome the drawbacks of SF-PPP in terms of reliability, continuity, and accuracy in the signal easily blocking environments, the inertial measurements are also adopted in this paper. Finally, we form a new approach to tightly integrate the multi-GNSS single-frequency observations and inertial measurements together to ameliorate the performance of the ionospheric delay and receiver DCB-constrained SF-PPP. In such model, the inter-system bias between each two GNSS systems, the inter-frequency bias between each two GLONASS frequencies, the hardware errors of the inertial sensors, the slant ionospheric delays of each user-satellite pair, and the receiver DCB are estimated together with other parameters in a unique Kalman filter. To demonstrate its performance, the multi-GNSS and low-cost inertial data from a land-borne experiment are analyzed. The results indicate that visible positioning improvements in terms of accuracy, continuity, and reliability can be achieved in both open-sky and complex conditions while using the proposed model in this study compared to the conventional GPS SF-PPP.
